“Reflections” of Russ YatesThe property known as Holiday Park was bought by Russ’s parents in March 1971 and they started to develop HPas a campground; moving here full time in 1977. Russ’s Dad was from a large family with roots in Missouri. Mostsiblings became preachers or married one. Their Dad had been a preacher that started churches. Russ’s Dad diedon December 31, 1981 at the age of 53. Russ and both his parents were saved at the Easton Church of God inmid December of that year. Russ, 31 at that time and an only child, helped his Mother with the campground, whilestill maintaining his full time career in the DC area working as a union refrigeration and air conditioning tech untilhis retirement in 1988. The two hours travel time back and forth were very difficult on Russ and his Mom. Praisethe Lord, along came a man named Richard Pepper; a friend who proved to be very valuable in keeping HolidayPark going by working full time for years at no pay.
In 1988 Russ felt a calling to sing with a local gospel quartet (as his Dad had done with the Blackwood BrothersQuartet in the 1940’s). In August 1989 Russ felt God wanted him to use the campground in some type of ministry,so the first gospel concert (sing a long) with 23 participants was held. In August of 1990 Russ had 5 groups singingand by 1991 started having multiple gospel concerts each camping season. In 30 years a scheduled gospel con-cert has never had to be cancelled.
In 1992 Russ married Jill and he will be quick to tell you that she has been a blessing to him every day and helpsin all phases of the operation.
In 2000 Tom Kleppinger started helping Russ at the campground and by 2004 he was running the sound equip-ment in church and at the concerts. In 2006 Tom also helped with another ministry called “The Servant’s Grill”.Under the influence of Russ and Pastor Dave Stewart, in 2015, Tom gave his heart to the Lord. Tom remained agood friend; in 2018 he passed away at the age of 59.
Russ shares that without God’s leading and all the friends and volunteers, everyone that has supported him andHoliday Park, none of this could continue. Doug Fluharty helped for several years; he and Ruth Finch worked withRuss in 2004 to start a Sunday morning church service. Doug played the keyboard and opened many concertswith a sing-a-long and would play his keyboard for the church. Doug and Ruth have helped mc the concerts andkeep things on track.
In 2005 the economy changed and it was more difficult to pay the singers what was needed to cover their travelexpenses and help meet their needs. The full color Gospel Concert Booklet that features advertisers was a wayto help with the expenses. Ruth felt that the Lord led her to take on much of this task; and the Lord blessed ourefforts. Some of the current advertisers have been in the book since the first edition in 2005. This has been ablessing and a help with the finances. Ruth still helps sell ads, mc’s concerts as needed, plays keyboard at churchand lifts our ministries in prayer. Russ and Ruth also sing together.
In 2006, another ministry was born. Mike and Anne Hallinan came to Russ with an idea; a mobile kitchen called“The Servant’s Grill”; used as another way to defray costs, so that concerts could continue. Now in its 14th year, many people have given of their time to help in “The Servant’s Grill”.
In 2009, another ministry was born at Holiday Park under the direction of Anne Hallinan. Holiday Park continuesto support the Shoebox Ministry also known as Operation Christmas Child. In the past 11 years Holiday Park haspacked more than 1200 shoe boxes and donated well over $15,000.00. Mike and Anne Hallinan have retired toFlorida but the ministry of the shoe boxes continues.
Russ says that without God’s leading, all the friends and volunteers, all the Christians that surround and supporthim and Holiday Park, that none of this could have happened. Also, the advertisers and all of you that support andattend keep us going. Thanks to all of you for your kindness, friendship, prayers and continued support.
Russ says if you have read all the way to this point, then you know that the most important thing is to let everyoneknow of Jesus Christ and for all of us to impress the need to rely on Him, because the time may be near and wewant to see you all in Heaven.
Your Gospel Friends, Russ, Jill and Jane Yates

We were searching the internet for places we could become seasonal campers in 2005.Holiday Park captured us because they had Gospel Concerts once a month and seemedto be a family oriented campground that we were interested in. After the first year ofpure enjoyment and getting to know the people there, we decided to come back thenext year. With limited food being served at the concerts, we asked Russ and Jill if wecould start preparing more variety of food at the concerts. They graciously agreedand that is how the Servants’ Grill came into existence, with all proceeds going to helpfund the concerts. We continued camping and serving there until 2016. They have be-come part of our family and we are forever thankful for them and what they do tospread God’s word. We Love You.
- Mike and Anne Hallinan
Holiday Park - 30 Years and CountingFrom its beginning, in the late 1980’s, I have been privileged to minister in music atHoliday Park. I performed there with various groups such as: “The Hallelujah Trav-elers,” “Labour of Love,” “The Pickin’ Pals,” and most recently “Bay City.” It hasbeen exciting to share the stage with some of the well-known names in the indus-try. It is also an honor to play for audiences who truly love and appreciate GospelMusic and for a promoter who has a desire to spread God’s word in this manner. Ihave enjoyed being a part of their Saturday night concert series and their Sundaymorning worship services. Whether there playing my banjo and singing or in theaudience being blessed by others, it is always a pleasure to be at Holiday Park. Thisis a family campground with a Christian atmosphere. Thanks to Russ, Jill and theHoliday Park staff for the many opportunities I have had to share, I look forwardto working more with you in the future.
Thanks and God Bless, Sharon E. Daniels

As I reflect on the times The Christian Troupers ministered at Holiday Park it fosters many fond memories. We sang there for several years and alwayslooked forward to that experience. The setting was simple and reminiscent of camp meetings. Many local folk were frequent and repeat visitors and those who cameout on Saturday nights often did not leave their own churches on Sundays, so as a singing group unless you were ministering in their church, you did not get to see them.
Russ and his staff were so very welcoming and accommodating. The groups shared a comaraderie and fellowship and many new long lasting friendshipswere established.
In July 1995 we sang there and it was a very difficult time for me as I had just left the hospital that afternoon after my mother had gone to her eternalhome. Struggling with what to do, I decided to go to the campground where the group had already set up for the evening concert. I knew that in this environment atthat time was the most comforting place for me as the warmth of God’s love was shared through fellow Christians and they embraced me and my family. Where elsewould I find that on Saturday night. As we sang “He‘s In the Midst” I felt God’s peace and the uplifting of prayers on my behalf.
Thanks, Russ, for the many years of promoting gospel music in this area and your faithfulness to God’s calling. Many lives have been touched and changed.I will always remember how many needs were met on that night in 1995.

My guess is if you traveled back to 1991 and told Russ Yates that his longest running group at his new Gospel Concert promotion would be a couple of local singers/songwrit-ers who would change styles from year to year to include Country, Gospel, Rock and Pop, he’d probably think you were crazy. I would have thought the same, for Contempo-rary and Southern Gospel just don’t usually mix, but that mix has made for our longest running concert booking since we started our family ministry in 1991. Russ took achance on a young kid who just got married and left the Speer Family and after a rocky start (you can ask him about that story), we have built a relationship over the yearsthat has stood the test of time. Russ and Jill have always been loving and accommodating to our whole family, as have the great loyal fans that have made Holiday Park Camp-ground a musical institution for 30 years. I know Holiday Park has had its ups and downs, who hasn’t over 30 years, but it has been Russ’ vision and dedication and love ofGospel Music, and of course, the providence of God that has made this milestone a reality. I look forward to June this year adding on to our record of being the longest run-ning group at the Park, and I do for many years to come. Thank you, Russ for your love for the Lord, His people and the gift of music He has given us. You have been faithfulto your calling and we will strive to do the same for our King! 30 years is just the start!

We have been camping at Holiday Park for over 30 years. We were there when theGospel Concerts started in the 80’s. It started with a small group of campers andit continued to grow as the word got around. We have seen it grow to around 200or more. We look forward every month to the next concert. It brings a lot of joy andblessing to our lives.

When we first went to Holiday Park we thought at best we were lost. In our mindswe thought it’s no way anyone would ever come out here in what seemed to be inthe middle of nowhere to hear music. We were wrong it’s a wonderful place to playmusic. But better than that because of the work of Russ and his staff it is a greatplace to experience Jesus and his love. It’s has become one our favorite places toworship. Many thanks to Russ for following his calling for 30 years to spread God’sword in the middle of nowhere. It’s truly a blessing. - Sonrise

Coming to Holiday Park is like coming home. Russ has always made us feel like we were at home. Most people would think of singing at Holiday Park is like a concert set-ting. Well, in a way, it kind of is, but so many times while being there I have seen people raise their hands, I’ve heard people shout, and I’ve even seen tears shed. I am sothankful that when we go there we are at liberty to have church when the Holy Spirit moves. For that, I am grateful that God has given Russ a vision to have a place wheregroups can come and sing and spread the Gospel and not put on a show. Thanks Russ for making Pine Ridge Boys a part of the vision.

I heard the Lord, right here at this little campground in 2007. With the help ofmy spiritual family here at Holiday Park, they have taught me how to hear, receive and listen to the Lord. This has helped to lead me in the right directionof walking in our Lord and Savior's footsteps. I'm still a long way from beingable to do so but our Father knows my limitations. The biggest key in helping meto our Lord has been the Gospel Concerts at the campground. Each concert, group, and everyone that I talk to at the concert has helped me on my long pathback to the Lord. With all my heart and soul, I give thanks to the Lord and theHoliday Park Family for all their help on this path.

GOOD NEWS - GREAT JOY
Holiday Park offers great facilities for company picnics, family reunions, retreats, group campouts, banquets, parties and outings. Ask us about using them for your church, organization or family.
You can be a part of sharing the Gospelwith every tribe, tongue, and nation.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin
Graham that collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in desperate situations around
the world. These shoe boxes open doors for presenting the Good Newsof Jesus Christ by working in and through local churches where
possible, offering children’s literature and through culturally appropriate evangelistic and follow-up programs.
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY GIFT?You may bring your shoe box gifts to one of the Gospel Concerts or to Holiday Park Campground at any time. We will also accept
any financial contributions you wish to make towards shipping costs and/or shoe box filler items. Shoe box gifts will be received at
drop-off sites throughout the country.
WHAT IF I NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION?Please visit the National website at www.samaritanspurse.org for
additional information about Operation Christmas Child. You may alsocall Holiday Park Campground and they will contact one of the local Operation Christmas Child volunteers. We will be happy to assist in getting you the information you need. All proceeds from the special
Concert on October 5th will be donated to Operation Christmas Child.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATIONServing alongside Holiday Park Campground in reaching more
children with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

We’ve been coming to Holiday Park for more years than I can count and from day one,we felt like family! The staff and concert attendees alike have always treated uswarmly…even when we were the “new kids on the block”. The concerts are always ahighlight of our year and usually feel more like worship services than a “show”. We loveRuss and Jill, and everyone who makes Holiday Park run smoothly. We’ve even stoppedin and spent the night…or a couple of nights when we were coming through the area forother events. Congratulations on this milestone anniversary and for the vision and com-mitment you have in sharing God’s music and God’s word to each and everyone whowalks onto those grounds. We love you and thank you for your belief in our ministry!

For many years Servants Heart, has had the privilege and blessing of being invitedto sing and minister at Holiday Park. We have known Russ since the 80’s, I believe, and then later Jill his lovely wife. We have had wonderful fellowship and manytimes of spiritual uplift as we ministered with other groups. Being with others, with the same purpose, of lifting up the wonderous name of Jesus and to encour-age the saints has been a great experience for us, at Holiday Park. We thank you,Russ and Jill for your love and support over the years. What you have done to pro-mote the gospel and to encourage believers will not be fully known until you seeJesus! We love you!
