Holiday parks rampaging ahead As New Zealand holiday parks hit international TV screens, it’s a good time to be in the sector, with confidence reaching record levels.

The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor for April/May 2014 shows confidence levels are at +76, a healthy 11 index points higher than this time last year.

The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor, developed and managed by Angus & Associates*, surveys the Holiday Parks Association New Zealand’s (HAPNZ) 300 members.

HAPNZ Chief Executive Fergus Brown says this is a great result given that business slows for most parks at this time of year.

“While confidence right now is down slightly on March/April, holiday park owners are feeling positive about the long-term outlook. Confidence for the next 12 months is at a high of +85,” Mr Brown says.

Demand this month compared to the same month last year rose to +60 in April/May, (from +9 in March/April). 71% of HAPNZ members completing the monitor thought demand had increased compared to the same month last year, while 35% expected demand to increase in the coming month.

Ten holiday parks throughout the country are featuring in a new Travel Channel show, RV Rampage, which made its debut on New Zealand TV on Thursday 22 May. Travel Channel broadcasts to over 130 countries around the world, meaning the 10-part series will reach a total potential audience of 200 million.

“We are looking forward to seeing some real results from the great profile this show will give to a New Zealand road trip in some of our key markets,” Mr Brown says.

“International travel and tourism buyers attending TRENZ 2014 last week showed strong interest in what holiday parks can offer their clients. Buyers were particularly impressed with the new holiday parks app which not only provides information on over 300 holiday parks, but also offers road condition warnings, public toilet locations, i-SITE locations and a wide range of other visitor information.”
