Hofstra offers a variety of campus

events, designed to suit your interests.

CultureYou don’t have to go to Manhattan to see a great show! There are many spirited student groups on campus, such as Hofstra Concerts, Danceworks and the Spectrum Players. In addition, our Department of Music presents jazz, classical and medieval performances each semester. And Hofstra Entertainment is our on-campus production company; recent productions include Annie, National Circus Project, and Davi Sings Sinatra (world premiere).

Students are also encouraged to attend conferences, lectures and other events hosted by Hofstra’s academic departments and schools and the Hofstra Cultural Center. The Hofstra University Museum, which is accredited by the American Association of Museums, boasts a permanent collection of about 5,000 pieces. The museum also hosts many events and exhibits each year.

CelebrationEvery year, Hofstra celebrates the holidays with a tree lighting ceremony. Hofstra’s tree is one of the largest living Christmas trees on Long Island. Following the ceremony, all members of the campus community are invited to visit our holiday village, which is created by Hofstra students. Students also attend the annual Dutch, Irish and Italian Experience Festivals.

This year we celebrate 75 years of Hofstra University: 75 years of academic excellence, growth, community, service, scholarship, success, and most especially, Hofstra Pride and Purpose. Hofstra’s history encompasses the story of our great University as well as thousands of stories of individual achievement, of our students, friends, families, faculty and alumni. The Office of Student Leadership and Activities can assist you in acclimating to campus and adjusting to college life. Counselors and staff offer one-on-one assistance to all first-year students, and the office coordinates Explore Next Door, a series of events for new students. These events have recently included:

v Trips to Broadway plays such as Hairspray, and other productions, including the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

v Museum excursions and a television studio tour in Manhattan.

v An apple and pumpkin picking trip with a hayride.

v Trips to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Central Park.

v Sporting events such as New York Yankees and Mets baseball games and New York Islanders hockey games.

v Learning projects, such as “a day of service” with Habitat for Humanity.
