I understand that feeling is rooted in hurt, loss, illness, unhappiness and so much more. Honestly, there have been mes that I too have felt that way. There is something about a new year that brings new hope and new ideas. In speaking with several around the Center I have heard comments about their “2018”. What they saw change within our country, our community, their families and even themselves. Some good, some bad. But the one thing I no- ced is their atude of gratefulness and willing to face new challenges with new strength. I have a very close friend who does not know from one day to the next if her husband will sll be here. He is extremely ill and has good and bad days. Her atude is amazing. I know she is hurng and fearful of each new day but she takes it on in courage and a scik-to-it-venessthat is God –Given. She speaks of how they are spending their last days together and how every second, even when she is taking care of him physically, is precious to her. In speaking to her husband, whom I am also very close to, we talk of his next life. Of what he will say to Jesus, to my husband who passed away and was also a close friend of his, and what he is looking forward to. Both of them could ask why, be bier, angry and blame God. Instead they ancipate next chapter. They know that there will be pain and grief but they are making the best life they can in this present me. HHAC was envisioned by someone who also took on that same atude. Herby suffered many years with physical ail- ments but through those struggles he sll pushed toward his dream. He too could have given up and listened to the nay-sayersbut he moved forward helping to achieve what is here today. As we move into another year, not knowing what it holds, lets look back on 2018 with less regret and more gratude for the good things that happened, for what we learned and for those who loved us and we loved. And as we do that lets look to 2019 as new opportunies and chances to show and experience gratude towards one another. Blessings and Happy New Year! Please love one another. HHAC WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2 FOR THE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

SUE’S CORNER THE BEST YEAR EVER!

So often I hear people say “I’ll be glad when this year is over!”. I understand that feeling is rooted in hurt, loss, illness, unhappiness and so

much more. Honestly, there have been times that I too have felt that way. There is something about a new year that brings new hope and new ideas. In speaking with several around the Center I have heard comments about their “2018”. What they saw change within our country, our community, their families and even themselves. Some good, some bad. But the one thing I no-ticed is their attitude of gratefulness and willing to face new challenges with new strength. I have a very close friend who does not know from one day to the next if her husband will still be here. He is extremely ill and has good and bad days. Her attitude is amazing. I know she is hurting and fearful of each new day but she takes it on in courage and a “sticik-to-it-tiveness” that is God–Given. Both of them could ask why, be bitter, angry and blame God. Instead they anticipate next chapter. They know that there will be pain and grief but they are making the best life they can in this present time. HHAC was envisioned by someone who also took on that same attitude. Herby suffered many years with physical ail-ments but through those struggles he still pushed toward his dream. He too could have given up and listened to the “nay-sayers” but he moved forward helping to achieve what is here today. As we move into another year, not knowing what it holds, let’s look back on 2018 with less regret and more gratitude for the good things that happened, for what we learned and for those who loved us and we loved. YOU’LL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO

(Original article is from January 2018.)

Born and raised in Uvalde, Toni’s roots go very deep. Her

great grandfather came over from England in the early

1900’s and opened a butcher shop south of City Hall. An-

other great grandfather was a local Presbyterian Minister.

Toni graduated from Uvalde High in 1965 and then ob-

tained her teaching degree from South TX State University

in San Marcos.

After graduating college she moved to Albuquerque NM.

When moving into her apartment there was a young man,

who was originally from Michigan, moving out. They met

and 6 months later got married. “I swore I would never

marry anyone from up north...go figure.” They were

married for 24 years before his death in 1994. “Stan left

more of himself in Uvalde than I ever will” Toni said.

She began playing the piano at age 3 when she would sit on

the bench and turn the pages for her mother as she played

Chopin. “My first introduction to the piano was classical

music as my mother’s fingers were all over that piano.”

When 9, her mother asked her to play the organ at Baptist

Temple. Her feet couldn’t reach the peddles on the organ

but they could on the piano, and the rest is history. Toni’s

passion for Gospel Music began when she was a child and

she still holds true to that passion. “I love the little church-

es because they are still singing all the verses out of the

hymnal that I grew up with.” Toni plays for many small

churches in the area going from one to another Sunday

after Sunday. It doesn’t make a difference to her if it is

Baptist, Methodist, or Episcopal; Toni loves them all and

they love her. “I never planned it to be this way but they

just continue to reach out to me. Here I am, playing for 65

years and I never fell off of the bench...came close a couple

of times but never did.” When asked about Herby Ham,

Toni’s reaction was the same as each person I ask. “He was

an amazing man and what he left for this Uvalde is so in-

credible. This is such a great facility and I am proud that

Herby’s dream was achieved.”

Toni has organized our Gospel Nite Out for many years.

Gathering numerous “Friends of Toni Hull” from and

around the Uvalde area for this great evening of Gospel

music. Gospel Nite Out is a tradition that will long be a

part of HHAC and also a part of what we stand for.

We are thrilled that Toni is back and doing great and look

forward to her being here on January 26th @ 7 pm. Admis-

sion is $10 which goes to support HHAC.

WATER BABES 2019 CALENDAR

Brenda Postert, wanting to showcase our pool and those

who attend Water Aerobic classes at HHAC, presented

the idea of the “Water Babes” Calendar to the classes. At

first some were reluctant but in time many got on board.

Good for them, they did it! Thanks Brenda, Eddie Kirk-

ham who shot the photos and everyone who had their pic-

ture made. It is great!
