What is congential defects?

• Problems with the structure of the heart.

• These defects can involve the walls of the heart, the valves of the heart and the arteries and veins near the heart.

• It can also disrupt the normal flow of blood through the heart.

Heart failure

• The heart’s inability to pump an adequate amount of blood through the heart.

• The blood can slow down, be blocked completely, flow in the wrong direction/wrong place.

Stroke

• Blood vessel that supplies blood to the brain is blocked by a blood clot.

• Blood vessel breaks open causing blood to leak into the brain.

• If blood flow is stopped for longer than a few seconds the brain can not get blood and oxygen. Brain cells can die, causing permanent damage.
