History
The water tank that was excavated during Alauddin Khilji‘s reign (1296–1316) in the second city of Delhi to
meet the water supply needs of the newly built fort at Siri, was originally known as Hauz-i-Alai.. The tank was
originally of about 50 hactares (123.6 acres) area with dimensions of 600 m (1,968.5 ft) width and 700 m
(2,296.6 ft) length with 4 m (13.1 ft) depth of water.
Recent lake restoration efforts In efforts made in the past by the Delhi Development Authority to develop Hauz Khas village, the inlets to the
reservoir were blocked and consequently the lake had gone dry for several years. To rectify the situation, a plan
was implemented in 2004 to store storm water generated at the southern ridge of Delhi behind
an embankment and then diverting it into the lake. An outside source has also been tapped by feeding the water
from the treatment plant at Sanjay Van into the lake.
METHODOLOGY FOR THE BIO-REMEDIATION OF LAKE
MAJOR DIFFICULTIES
Low oxygen levels
Excessive sludge build up at the bottom
Higher BOD & COD levels.
High Turbidity.
High Nitrogen and Phosphorus levels
High degree of floating material at periphery
SCOPE OF WORK
To reduce BOD,COD & TSS level inside the lake
To increase the D.O of the lake water
To reduce the organic sludge build up at the bottom of the lake
To reduce/eliminate the foul smell
To increase the overall physical appearance of the lake
PROCESS OF TREATMENT
Powder Bio-Inoculum:
Name of Product- Lake Clean
LAKE CLEAN – is a concentrated dry blend of bacteria designed to consume ammonia and nitrite rapidly.
This product can be used in natural-bottom lakes and ponds to combat the problems resulting from high
nitrogen loading which typically arises from runoff’s and other Eutrophication aggravators like low oxygen,
sudden rainfall, improper daylight , seasonal low temperatures, imbalanced food-chain in pond and lakes.

LAKE CLEAN – Contains 4 strains of endospore-forming Bacillus which have been selected based on their
adaptability to low DO conditions and temperature extremes.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
Promotes a healthy aquatic environment for lakes, aquariums and small ponds.
Reduces or eliminates loss of valuable fish and other species due to toxic ammonia concentration.
Effective in BOTH fresh and sea water.
Effective even at relatively high BOD/COD (under 200 ppm)
Effective over a wide temperature range (49 O F to 149 O F) and pH range (6.5 to 8.5).
Effective over a wide pH range of 7.0 to 8.5
