The Finance Minister after the budget presentation, has been sensitive to the demands of the various industries to have a relook at the earlier decisions and provide sops for these industries, to bail them out of the current situation.

As an asset class, while equities have an edge in the long run, Real Estate is not far behind in terms of growth over the investments and the security of capital invested. Rentals, in both residential and commercial have stabilised. New concept of Co-working space is adding to the growth in this segment. Student stay is another growing segment, with students travelling far away from homes to study and equip themselves at the time of slowdown, which is a good strategy to beat retrenchment. CALICUT ON TOP OF FASTEST GROWING CITIES IN INDIA.The city of Kozhikode has topped the list of fastest growing cities in the country. The findings came up as an outcome of a study conducted in 200 cities across the globe by New York University in collaboration with the UN Habitat and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy that says Calicut is steadily expanding in its urban swathes and population growth. 17 cities in the country have figured in the list that comprises Belagavi, Coimbatore, Pune, Jaipur and Hyderabad which have found a place behind Calicut. The city develops steadily into the outskirts and villages resulting in its expansion, the study says. The city limits have taken a giant leap to 23641 hectares in 2014 from a humble 3316 hectares in 2001 and the growth percentage is pegged at 15.2%.

A surge in the migration to the city in search of jobs and better amenities have led to its population growth. It has grown from 4.40 lakhs in 2001 to 11.71 lakhs in 2014 with a growth rate of 7.6%. While this is a mere 4.3 percent in Belagavi and 4.1 percent in Pune and Coimbatore. The study was conducted taking the corporation limits and the bordering villages that show the urban characteristics into one single unit. Experts point out that the migration to the city from the nearby districts and urbanisation of neighbouring villages have helped Calicut achieve this distinction. The study that had been held using the data from 1991 to 2014 is published in the 2016 edition of City Development Atlas.
