The control system is the “face” of the router, providing operators with intelligent user interfaces and engineering staff with logical system configuration and main-tenance tools. Harris offers a wide range of advanced hardware and software solutions that enable powerful, comprehensive control of Harris routers — including the Panacea™ small routers and Platinum™ medium-to-large scale routers — as well as third-party routers, within any broadcast network. Our versatile portfolio of control systems includes support for both traditional and hybrid environments, enabling you to future-proof your control infrastructure as baseband and broadband media continue to converge.

Fast setup that saves time and money. Flexible and intuitive configuration that lowers the learning curve for operators. Cost-effective and compact design, yet packed with functionality. And easy maintenance that reduces the need for technical support. Harris control systems provide all the power and versatility you need to simplify even your most complex routing applications.

As the functionality of routing switchers evolves, so too does the need for a versatile router control panel with a feature set that can evolve with your operation. The award-winning Magellan™ family of router control panels (RCPs) provides a fast, powerful and simple way to control your Harris or third-party routing systems. These feature-rich, cost-effective and highly customizable panels — ranging from simple, button-per-source, single-bus panels to multilevel, multi-bus, relegendable LCD-button panels — are sure to meet both your budget and routing operational requirements today and tomorrow.

Available as a series of 10 programmable hardware panels in 1 or 2RU versions, Magellan RCPs offer intuitive, Web-based configuration — enabling the industry’s fastest setup in both local and remote operations. With Magellan, you can go from out of the box to fully configured and operational by simply setting IP addresses and an ID. Designed with an understanding of the physical layout of a typical facility or OB truck, these compact RCPs — less than 2 inches deep — integrate easily into console-mount or any other space-constrained environment, enabling you to rapidly optimize the navigation and control of your routers.

Several feature-rich versions of Magellan router control panels are available, including:

Content delivery in today’s fast-paced digital environment places heavy demands on network control panels — they must be tailored to individual needs and sup-port interactions with a minimum number of keystrokes.

NUCLEUS™, a fully user-configurable 2RU network control panel, and NUCLEUS-DM, a deskmount network control panel, unify and streamline the operation of routers, as well as processing products and remote monitoring products. By means of an intuitive panel wizard, each network control panel can be tailored to meet your specific, exacting demands. NUCLEUS enables the control of many devices using a logical menu/navigation structure, so you can quickly execute a series of complex device control changes with only a few simple button presses.

Harris also offers the NUCLEUS-TRAX router follow option, which integrates router source selection and upstream processing product control. NUCLEUS-TRAX simplifies workflow in master control and quality control stations, speeds up access to the controls of devices upstream from the router, and significantly reduces the possibility of mistakes — enabling you to save both time and money.

The RCP-GPI32p and RCP-GPI64p provide input and output contact closure interfaces for use with Harris routers. The GPI inputs can be used to select router cross-points. A source will be selected whenever the corresponding GPI input pair is momentarily shorted. Harris offers the RCP-GPI32p, a remote 32-input contact closure interface; the RCP-GPI64p, a remote 64-input contact closure interface; and the RCP-GPIEX expander module, which converts GPI32p to GPI64p.

Advanced Harris software applications offer powerful configuration and control — locally or remotely — using Ethernet, coaxial or serial connections. SNMP is supported directly to our Ethernet-based control systems, and third-party router control is provided via our Edge protocol gateway.

A powerful CCS-Navigator™-based tool, the DB editor greatly enhances your ability to create and maintain your routing system via a feature-rich interface. You’ll save time – from the simple, initial hardware setup and configuration to the familiar Excel-like editing functions and Excel-based configuration templates. Highly intuitive, the DB editor’s editing features are available from an easy-to-use toolbar/menu that has the look and feel of a spreadsheet for a low learning curve. You’ll have easy access to information with .zip-based files for ease of export, import, backup and restore. And powerful capabilities continue to be added, such as tieline configuration and monitoring, enabling you to perform more advanced functions when and if your needs dictate.

A Windows®-based software application, CCS Navigator™ provides graphical tools to create easy-to-use Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) that visually represent operational environments. These GUIs consolidate and ease network-wide status monitoring and control by representing broadcast systems with familiar and intui-tive interfaces, with graphical feedback of status tailored to your requirements. CCS Navigator primarily uses the Harris-developed CCS™ Protocol (CCSP), a binary open source protocol that provides real-time parametric adjustment and enhanced alarm management and correlation. CCSP allows a tighter integration with Harris products, easy setup and the ability to scale networks while conserving precious network bandwidth.

Edge Router Protocol TranslatorSeamless Harris/Third-Party Router Control IntegrationToday, many broadcast facility system designs require interoperability among router systems form different manufacturers. Harris understands that you might also favor one manufacturer’s control system over another and are simply looking to expand current routing capabilities.

The Edge router protocol translator is a 1RU device that acts as a bridge between Harris X/Y router protocols and other third-party router control/monitoring pro-tocols. Edge can support third-party TCP/IP protocols, as well as serial protocols. A bidirectional solution, Edge can control third-party routers or be controlled by third-party control panels — making it ideally suited to any system design.

Edge also acts as an SNMP agent for Harris routing systems. Any Harris router can be mapped to an SNMP-based monitoring and control system.
