High Performance Imaging Advances for Uses In AIDCStrides in Imaging Technology Have Been Enabled By: Advances in Imagers (cameras)
New illumination technology helps imagers “see”
High speed, low cost processors
Advanced software development
5
Why Imaging Technology For AIDC?
The Advantages of Imaging:
Can read bar codes in any orientation
Can read 2D bar codes
Read bar codes from smartphones(e-coupons, loyalty cards)
Capable of very high speed reading
Enables new, revolutionary form factors to fit any environment
Completely solid-state – no moving parts
Can be also used to capture images for item recognition
6
Imaging Enables New Form Factors
Single Plane – 1 Imager In Counter, High Volume Multi-Plane – Multiple Imagers
Customer Facing Reader – Mobile Phones, Loyalty Cards
Automated Scanner – Multiple Array Imagers
7
The Checkout Experience
Improving the in-store shopping experience is priority one for retailers around the world
Shortening checkout wait times and offering multiple checkout types that match the shoppers’ objectives for a specific shopping trip
The ability to quickly interact with the retailer using mobile coupons and loyalty programs is critical
New technologies and solutions allow retailers around the world to re-invent the retail checkout to improve the shopping experience
8
Improved Operational Efficiency

Designed for High Volume Checkout
10
Magellan 9800i Performance
Base MG9800i scanning performance equal to MG8500Xt – fastest in the world
Top Down Readers (TDR) add additional performance by reducing orientation Items with labels on top of package
and high leading edge labels
TDR allows shopper to scan their own cell phone mobile coupons or loyalty card Concurrent while associate is
scanning
MG9800i reads any 2D code Does not require a separate scanner
Checker need not perform an additional activity
11
What About Top Down Reading?
Top down reading with all laser scanners is very limited due to the angle of the laser pattern
In many cases, the cashier still has to tilt the item to be read, slowing down the scanning speed
12
Increased Top Down Reading Performance
Exclusive optional 30.5 cm / 12 inch top down reader (TDR) on the Magellan 9800i can read top-marked items without tilting
TDR also provides additional plane to read leading side bar codes and further increase throughput
Requires a small adjustment to touchscreen position

15
Good Ergonomics Start with a Targeted Scan Zone
Laser scan zones with expanding patterns encourage inefficient scanning
Farther from window, the more space between scan lines
Cashiers scanning at horizontal window miss the horizontals
MG9800i has clearly defined scan zone
Scan zone is focused directly over horizontal scan window
All three scan planes converge at horizontal window providing maximum scan coverage
16
Improved Ergonomics
Large 6 x 4 inch lower scan window, ergonomically positioned
Centralized speaker for improved audio feedback
Dual good read indicators for L to R or R to L scanning
Identifying marks for optimum scan zone
17
Image Capture at the POS
Magellan 9800i with the Top Down Reader (TDR) able to conveniently capture images
Cashier places or holds the item below the TDR and presses image capture button
Image written to SD card or sent directly to POS host via the OPOS Image command:
Drivers license Not on file items Checks or return receipts Damaged goods
Image file types:
JPEG, BMP, TIFF Adjustable resolution
18
Customizable Sounds
The issue:
Only a limited number of hardware-generated sounds are available
Datalogic provides an unlimited range of sounds so that retailers can communicate the status quickly to the associate, i.e., when there is a ‘not on file’ prompt or when the scanner is deactivated, etc.
Magellan 9800i implements the use.wav files to generate all sounds
The sounds (prompts) now simulate ringtones on a mobile phone
19
Improved Shopper Experience and Interaction
20
Advantages of a More Intelligent Design
Lower bonnet height (only 6.8 cm / 2.7 in high!) Removes barrier between cashier
and customer
Adds easy and intuitive interaction point for shoppers
Allows for a lower touchscreen position for seated cashiers
Also allows lower customer touchscreen in self-checkout
Improves accessibility for all shoppers to the touchscreen selection buttons
21
Datalogic Illumix™ Intelligent Illumination Technology
Provides correct illumination for high speed data capture Captures images at 80+ inches/sec
(IPS)
Reads bar codes from mobile phones Enables reading like mobile coupons
and customer loyalty cards
Provides consistent performance From dark to very bright, sunlit
applications
Optimizes imager settings for image capture
22
Reading Mobile Coupons & Loyalty Cards
Customer initiated and controlled cell phone reader
Very easy reading of mobile coupons, loyalty cards, gift cards, etc.
Conveniently located mobile reader faces the customer at a comfortable read height
Independent ON and GOOD READ indicator
Can be used concurrently with scanner to maximize throughput
Improves the shopping experience for the customer
23
Reduced Losses from Shrink
24
Sensormatic and Checkpoint EAS Antenna
Designed to accommodate the after-market installation of EAS antennas from multiple suppliers
Supports Interlock for both Checkpoint and Sensormatic to assure read before deactivation control
Supports the Datalogic intelligent SmartSentry bi-directional interface for maximum control over EAS events with Sensormatic EAS controllers
25
Magellan Scale Technology
Certified Retail Scales Contact Datalogic for regional
certification information
30 lb. x .01 lb. increments
15 kg x .005 kg increments
Fast Settling Time
High Resolution Scale Option Can legally / accurately weigh lower
weight, high priced items such as specialty teas, herbs, mushrooms, etc.
Scale Type Pounds Grams
Standard Min. = 0.2 Min. = 100
High Resolution Min. = .01 Min. = 40
26
Shrink at the POS
How does the retailer incur produce shrink at the POS? Long produce hangs over edge of the scale platter onto the
checkstand
Associates can misplace average-sized produce
Bagged produce leans against the vertical window
Creating weighing error and lost revenue
27
How Important is Produce Shrink?
Produce department sales account for 12% of all supermarket sales
Average annual sales of produce per store was $1,384,415
On a scale of 1 to 6, where 6 is very serious, the highest problem facing produce departments was wholesale prices and this ranked 4.42
Shrink/Spoilage ranked a 4.26, it was the fourth highest problem!

28
Shrink Data on Random Weight Produce
31.6 % of all produce sales are random weight fruits*
31.5% of all produce sales are random weight produce*
This means that 63.1% of all produce sales are random weight

The All-Weighs™ Scale Platter
POS Shrink Savings on Long / Bagged Produce
Vertical Window moves as part of the scale platter
When produce leans against vertical window, scale weighs accurately!
Significant reduction in produce shrink
Faster transaction time
Saves up to 3.0% of weighed produce
30
Larger All-Weighs Scale Platter
Weight area on Magellan 9800i is 20% longer than other bi-optics Does not include the All-Weighs use of the bonnet
Faster and easier for cashiers to place produce on scale platter
Significantly reduces risk of produce hanging over platter
Reduces the potential for shrink
31
All-Weighs Scale Platter Improved with ScaleSentry™ Associate turnover is high
and proper training is not always possible
Associates are pressured to increase throughput
Variable weight shrink is not measured like throughput and is therefore invisible
Infrared beams monitor scale platter side edges for overhanging items
32
All-Weighs Platter with ScaleSentry Return on Investment (ROI)
FOR…
Every $1 billion in total sales
AND IF…
