Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Saturday, April 27 th 2019 Race 1 #1 Preferred Guest #2 Jack’s Memory #5 Quietly Quick #4 Audrey Grace #1 PREFERRED GUEST broke her maiden at a route in the South Ocean Stakes last year after showing strong closing ability in sprints. She spent the winter in Florida where she ran once on turf behind eventual Stakes winner Feel Glorious. #2 JACK’S MEMORY ran her best race since her winning debut when finishing second on November 11 in a route race in which she added blinkers. Routing may be in the cards again down the road. #5 QUIETLY QUICK broke her maiden at Finger Lakes in November, but had shown ability on turf at Belmont before and may be a speed threat in a potentially paceless race. #4 AUDREY GRACE will make her first start off of the claim for Robert Tiller. She has been versatile with her running style around two turns. Her only start sprinting was her debut on turf. Race 2 #3 In View #6 Alicia’s Kid #4 True Dat #2 Poquito Bandito #3 IN VIEW ran a series of good races between the $25,000 and $40,000 levels last year. After not making the races until July last year, he is getting an early start here. #6 ALICIA’S KID returns as a gelding after an okay debut in May. Although that race was at the optional $40,000 level, in hindsight it was a soft group for that class and the drop in for $25,000 today looks appropriate. #4 TRUE DAT, the lone three year old, was a non factor against maiden special weight company when debuting in December. #2 POQUITO BANDITO hit the board several times last year racing between the $16,000 and $40,000 levels. He seems to be at his best on turf. Race 3 #2 Tobruk #5 Moon Doggie #6 Majestic Heist #1 Holtz #2 TOBRUK ended 2018 in good form racing for $4,500 at Fort Erie. He also raced well here at the start of the season and has good early speed. #5 MOON DOGGIE caught a tough field full of droppers when finishing fifth for this tag on November 21. He’s not an incapable horse and may have appreciated the winter break. #6 MAJESTIC HEIST will make his first start against non- conditioned company here after ending 2018 with an easy win for $3,000 at a route in Fort Erie. His speed figures fit here. #1 HOLTZ returns off the layoff after a very consistent 2018, hitting the board in 11 of 15 starts. Race 4 #8 Carmenootz #1 Salieri #4 Blueblood #6 Silent Jimmie #8 CARMENOOTZ has been a successful closing sprinter and catches a field that could provide a pace set up. He returns after a winter of training in Ocala. #1 SALIERI caught a tough group and didn’t run bad at all when finishing fourth in his 2018 debut. His poor races last year all seem to have reasonable excuses. #4 BLUEBLOOD, a Stakes winner as a two year old, makes his first start since late July and will run for a tag. He wintered at the Casse Training Center in Ocala. #6 SILENT JIMMIE is a capable runner on Tapeta but has run his best races on the turf. He was a very good second in his first start of 2018 at this distance. Race 5 #8 Conquest Bad Girl #1 Rexdale #6 Typically #2 Biddy Early #8 CONQUEST BAD GIRL closed along a very good rail last week and was beaten less than a length for second in a race won by a dominant front end runner. #1 REXDALE got a wide trip on a day where the portable rail was out quite wide on the Fair Grounds turf. She can build off of that effort with better circumstances. #6 TYPICALLY narrowly missed in her 2018 debut. She is frequently able to make up ground and finish in the hunt when she settles near the back. #2 BIDDY EARLY debuts here off of a fairly short worktab for a first timer. She is a big unknown but a decent debut would not surprise.

Race 2 #3 In View #6 Alicia’s Kid #4 True Dat #2 Poquito Bandito #3 IN VIEW ran a series of good races between the $25,000 and $40,000 levels last year. Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Saturday, April 27th 2019 Race 6 #5 Bonnie Lee #6 Pink Scribbles #2 Slydini #4 Sayso #5 BONNIE LEE appears to have a decent foundation coming into her debut. She has several winning siblings who have won on all surfaces and distances. #6 PINK SCRIBBLES has been an effective closer, but was also able to manage a good second with a stalking style at the end of the meet. That versatility could come in handy in this race with several unknown first time starters. #2 SLYDINI chased the leader in vain down the stretch in her debut, in which she was the 8-5 favourite. She returns to the races after a winter in Ocala. #4 SAYSO is another debut runner here. She trained at Payson Park over the winter and appears to have been working steadily.

Race 7 #5 Shakhimat – Best Bet #3 Cooler Mike #6 Sweet Little Man #8 Aheadbyacentury #5 SHAKHIMAT cut back to five and one-half furlongs in the Shakertown, trailed the field turning for home, made up some ground late and galloped out very well. Seven furlongs should allow him to get better position. #3 COOLER MIKE was very game when holding third in last year’s Queen’s Plate. His only start sprinting as a three year old was his first start off the layoff and it was a very good second. #6 SWEET LITTLE MAN was able to be competitive in Graded Stakes races last summer. The classy nine year old was the only one in this field to win twice in 2018. #8 AHEADBYACENTURY used his deep closing style to finish second in last year’s Queen’s Plate and Prince of Wales. It doesn’t appear like there is enough speed to set him up for a win here, but his late pace should still be apparent in the stretch.

Race 8 #4 Corduroy Road #7 Yes I Am Free #6 The Boss Factor #1 Souper Success #4 CORDUROY ROAD appeared very relaxed when setting a modest pace in his November 30 win. Although he may try to continue his front running tactics, he could be very dangerous if he relaxes behind some of the other speed types. #7 YES I AM FREE stalked the pace in his

Texas Glitter Stakes win at Gulfstream, but could not duplicate the finish in the Palisades, which was a very tough group. He tries synthetic for the first time. #6 THE BOSS FACTOR was a dominant winner third time out, then finished evenly after a wide trip in the Display. His return to the races at Gulfstream was a non-factoring run on the dirt, and hopefully signifies nothing more than a disdain for that surface. #1 SOUPER SUCCESS was a rapid front end winner second time out, beating a first time starter who returned to win. He could be hindered by the other speed but gets the shortest way around.

Race 9 #2 Heydon’s Case #1 Dot’s Vision #4 Leo the Rabbit #7 Butilovesyababe #2 HEYDON’S CASE ran only one poor race last year, a turf route in which he had some traffic trouble. He’s a fairly honest horse who has won both dueling on the lead and closing. #1 DOT’S VISION cuts back to a sprint after a couple of tries around two turns at Parx. He’s an up and down kind of horse but his fitness is not in question. #4 LEO THE RABBIT ran an okay third behind a dominant winner at Penn National in February. He is another who has been effective both on the front end and closing. #7 BUTILOVESYABABE will add blinkers in his first start for trainer Sam DiPasquale, an experiment not yet tried in his 41 career starts.

Race 10 #3 Kitchen Fire #6 Bangor Ridge #7 Kitten’s Solution #1 Colleen’s Sailor #2 Constantino #3 KITCHEN FIRE had a solid season racing on the front end at Presque Isle, but faltered when coming to Woodbine. His Tampa race found him drifting on the tighter turns of the turf course. The cutback, drop in class and winter training could all work in his favour. #6 BANGOR RIDGE has had a productive winter racing at Mahoning Valley. This is a class jump but the winter fitness could be helpful. #7 KITTEN’S SOLUTION was a $10,000 claim for Kathy Patton on the day he lost his non-winners of three condition, but fared well against open company for the new connections. #1 COLLEEN’S SAILOR is winless in the past two seasons but has remained competitive and has a lot of back class. #2 CONSTANTINO is another with a lot of back class. His form tailed off noticeably in the fall and returns for a new low claiming price.
