Hammanskraal News was unable to speak to the driver to hear what happened as he was receiving medical attention and told us that he sustained an injury on his arm. Some community members complain that the public roads do not have the necessary warnings to motorists. On the other hand, the accident could be ascribed to donkey cart driver negligence as it is mostly seen. The latter is reference to the fact that it is small boys who are given the reigns. This is a matter of serious concern as children just do as they deem fit. On the other hand, the matter is tantamount to negligence as well as ignorance from the side of the parents. Cart drivers usually do not give the necessary hand signals on the road and it becomes difficult at times for motorists to know the direction they would take. Hammanskraal News warns the owners of the donkey carts to be extra careful and not give these children a leading hand animals carts. It is also noted fact that some of these children have a tendency of staying away from school and go for donkey drive. Parents should also take into account the right of these children to education. Like bicycles, strong measures need to be taken for them to be visible at night to avoid unnecessary accidents on the roads. The roads also need to have the necessary warnings to motorists to observe and respect the cyclists and pedestrians alike. He concluded that everyone has the right to use the roads and complained that motorists do not respect other road users mostly pedestrians. Other community members of Sekampaneng, Kanana and Suurman voiced their concern with regard to no road signs which inform motorists about community members who have animals or still use donkey carts. One further said that buses sometimes knocks their cows and goat and some community members take opportunity of slicing them and not report the incidence to the animal owners. Sebushane MoobiCommunities around Temba, Hammanskraal and the surrounding areas are warned to be aware of muggings taking place at Mabopane station.A recent victim of robbery at Mabopane, local Hammanskraal artist Mr Buti Morake, was mugged at the station when visiting a friend. At about 19h00 in the evening, having left Soshanguve for Temba, he was stalked from behind. While following him, one of his stalkers engaged him in conversation. Then three men manhandled him and snatched two bags from him. He reported the matter to the nearest security guards who directed him to the Rietgat police station. Mr Morake expressed concern about the poor lighting at Mabopane station, but commended the Rietgat police who, he said, wasted no time in following the trail of the perpetrators. It took Warrant Officer Hlongwane and Captain Mabena a little less than an hour, he said, to recover his possessions in good order. They found his bags lying in long grass in a remote area to the north of the station after being tipped off by an old man who had seen three men running in different directions. Although Warrant Officer Hlongwane was unable to furnish Hammanskraal News with the case number of the incident, he did confirm his assistance in finding Morake’s bags and acknowledged that there were no lights at the Mabopane station. He warned Hammanskraal community members to avoid travelling at night because commuting after dark often costs lives as well as goods. In addition to travelling during daylight hours, he said, commuters who are new to the area should not show their vulnerability to everyone, but only ask for directions from queue marshals at taxi ranks. They should also be extra careful during peak hours, when muggers are especially active, and travel in large groups.

ROBBERY AT TRAIN STATION

One woman was married to a man and engaged to another at the same time. Griffith Thebolelo of Pienaarsrivier told Hammanskraal News that he had not known about the situation until five years ago. He reasoned that he had courted the woman, Rose Phantsha, got engaged and stayed with her for five year, in a real lovey-dovey relationship. He explained that he had never seen such a situation of a woman married to two men.

Thebolelo said that he met Rose way back in 2008 while they worked in Pretoria. He added that they were a couple to be envied for the six years. He further said that he did not smell a rat when his fiancée talked him into taking up a “next of kin” (Joseph) to stay with them. He stated that the man in question was labelled jobless and desperate. He said that the three of them stayed together with the lady’s twins, a boy and a girl. He further said that they were one happy family that was filled with love.Thebolelo was fast to tell Hammanskraal News that he personally saw to it that Joseph got a part-time job.. It was all in order for them as he worked in Roselyn. He said that Joe was involved with another lady not far from their home. It was all well for the other three years. He explained that things turned out bitter after Joseph became permanently employed. At the time, he was to work extra hours at his work since some of his colleagues had been involved in a car accident. He said that he wondered why Rose became closer and closer to Joe, even when they watched television in the evening. He explained that this was very unusual for the family and it tore them apart. Thebolelo relayed that he once worked for three weeks without showing back home. “All hell broke loose from this, I think,” he lamented. He said that on the day, Joe was off duty and that he was also

off work for a week. He stated that “the man” (Joe) yelled and swore at him. He stressed that he was surprised at first and realized later that it was a serious state of affairs. He voiced that he had to go elsewhere to await Rose’s arrival to put out the fire. He relayed that it was a fruitless wait and that Rose just stared him in the eyes, went into the bedroom and pulled out a brown envelope which was thrown at him. He admitted that he did not smell a rat, pulled out the paper and realized upon reading through it that it was a marriage certificate. “I felt numb at my feet and wished that the earth could swallow me alive. To think that the two had been legally married for solid eight years,” he sobbed. Griffith Thebolelo told Hammanskraal News that he ended up in a shebeen to drink his sorrows down. “To think of so much time and love that had gone wasted, grieves me to death, “ he said. Thebolelo voiced that it took him time to live with the thought but believes that life has to go on and that suicide is not the solution.Accamia Swantsi Joe”s former girlfriend, corroborated Thebolelo’s story and added that she was also taken by surprise and that their parting grieved her a lot. She also relayed that she and Thebolelo had to talk the matter over and over again, involved some professionals and invited pastors to help them. She stated that like Thebolelo, she stayed away from her work for three weeks which nearly cost her income. She said that she is presently healing from the ordeal. She warned that ladies should enquire before they commit themselves to relationships with people they do not know. “It was a slap in the face or I shot myself in the feet, she concluded. On the other hand, Rose admitted falling in love with Griffith in order to get back at Joseph. She said that she was sorry for Griffith but she had to get back with the father of her twins to avoid long divorce procedure. Joe did not want to say a word to Hammanskraal News .

They say children are the future or the foundation of every society and they are the future so they need to be raised properly and protected at all times. The month of May is the one which focuses on child protection and safety which is celebrated throughout the country as children safety is one of the key priorities of our government. Earlychildhood Development (ELD) centres or crèches (kinder gardens) as they mostly known they gathered at Mandela Sports ground in order to recognise the day and have fun.Temba ELD Cluster of Ward 75 held the event which different crèches were invited and started with a march which commenced from Mandisa Shiceka Clinic near Tshwane Metro Police offices at Mandela Village ended at Mandela Sports Hub where the major event was held. The march was led by the Drum majorettes from Bothlale Day Care Centre and children were seen carrying placards which were written different messages. Chairperson of Temba ELD Cluster Shawn Makama told Hammanskraal News that the purpose of the event is to highlight that abuse is all over and it is important to teach children while they are at the foundation phase about different types of abuses. Makama said that her concern is that the focus is mostly on sexual abuse while there are different ones which take place daily including at some of the crèches which also need attention. “there is also emotional and psychological abuse which some educators continue to practice such as calling learners names such as saying one have a big head and that must stop as it is unacceptable” she said.Makama explained that they teach learners at crèches about different abuse so that children

must know their rights while they are still young insuring that they can speak out when they find themselves in that situation. She further said that they work with Temba SAPS and MEDICO Clinic which is at Jubilee Hospital in a situation they suspect a learner might have been abused or the family is abusive. She told Hammanskraal News that some parents respond negatively when approached when they suspects that children is abused and also point out that some educators are also afraid to confront some parents with the fear that the child might be taken to other crèches.Makama expressed her disappointment about the local government leaders who are not supportive to crèches including local business people. She also expressed her frustration about shops that are not willing to sponsor such events while the parents and community members they support their businesses. The event received support from different department such as Health, Home Affairs, Education, Social Developments, Tshwane Emergency Services, Hammanskraal Sports Hub, Temba SAPS including non-governmental organisations such as Child Patrol Unit and Relebile Kanana CommunityTraining and

Development.Makama said she is thankful about the assistance they received from MacDonald and Hammanskraal Fruit and Veg because that really made the learners happy.Learners were entertained and taught at the same time by mascots of Metro Police called Dannycat who taught them about road safety including the Giraffe who also taught them about the danger of fire. They were also given an opportunity for taking photos and dance with the two mascots. Mmaphefo Maponya, Social Worker taught educators about the services they offer including about how they can report abuses

and get protection from Department of Social Developments. Maponya told educators that they have what they call sexual offenders registration which they record information of offenders so that if the suspect is to be charged about another case they are able to check if he or she have done similar cases before. She also warned those who witness abuse and not report it that they might also be charged. She further warned educators about what she calls Shaken Baby Syndrome when a baby is hysterically being shaken resulting a baby being mentally affected.

WORTHLESS IN DEATH AND YET WORTHWHILE IN LIFE

HAMMANSKRAAL CLASSIFIEDS

Sebushane MoobiPeople always complain of rubbish dumping anywhere as in tins, plastic bottles, papers and you name them. One thing that they forget is the dumping dead pets anywhere. The complaints about leaking sewers that would make them sick from their smell and the discomfort it brings them is sometimes overemphasized. Yet the same people would allegedly kill dogs, cats and donkeys that would be thrown some meters from their homes. These cats, dogs and donkeys have done a lot

to help these households when they were alive and they are thrown away just like that when they are dead.On the other hand, the good that these animals have done tends to go unnoticed. Hammanskraal News was sensitized by a concerned, pet loving Johannes Pheko of Kekana gardens. He said that he had noticed this injustice to the animals and how cruel they treated. Pheko is adamant that donkeys are hardworking animals that help draw water, wood for fuel, plough and all the tough work. He stated that they never complain top their owners even if they are overburdened. He added that at times these donkeys are made to work until late in the evening. He mentioned that they are not allowed enough time to rest as they are always harnessed.” Still, they are not shown respect upon their death,” he complained. Pheko further said that these animals are just dumped because they are not consumed (eaten). On the other hand

they tend to be underrated and spat at. “The good in them is never seen” he added.Pheko reminded Hammanskraal News readers to take these animals seriously as they ask no questions and pass no criticism. He added that the dogs are the best and

trustworthy all time watches for house hold. He continued that they are still treated badly as some are malnourished, beaten, hanged to be thrown anywhere. He explained that it is important to note people brag about their dogs that bite with warnings on gates. He stated that the same people would load the dead dogs onto their vans upon death to be thrown away. He said that such people have no sense of gratitude and that they need not keep pets. He relayed that some of these dogs are poisoned by jealous neighbours and that people

should learn that good fences make good neighbours. He admitted that some of the pets just roam about at particular times but advised that dogs should be kept on a leash and have kennels in the

neighbourhood for their shelter.Pheko voiced that dogs are reliable twenty four seven and never betray their owners. He explained that when some of the owners enjoy themselves on holidays, these pets do the dirty guard-work without reward. He stated that communities should be educated about the good these pets do and how they are to be treated. He said that it is lamentably sad to see a dead dog on a dump site. He reasoned that holes should be dug for these dogs, cats in the yard as they naturally will rot. He stated that as for donkeys, it could be difficult if they die out in the camps for they might be noticed very late after their death. He concluded that a dead chicken would not be left lying for an hour near the road because it is edible. He voiced in his wonder that the worst was to be seen if it was the case and that everyone would rush for a donkey carcass with a butcher’s knife in hand.Veterinarian surgeon Lerato Kgatswetswe, from the Northwest confirmed the ill-doing to these animals. She confirmed that theanimals are sometimes so badly treated and these people go unpunished. The surgeon added that it is a serious issue that needs attention and people seem to close their ears to their pleas. She voiced that another worrying factor is that some people keep more pets e.g. dogs than they can afford to feed. Others go further not to take these pets for free vaccination when expected to. She voiced that some disease can be easily transferred from the dead to the ones that are still alive. On the other hand the smell from the decaying animals could be bad and unhealthy for people near the carcass. Surgeon Kgatswetswe concluded that it could be best to have more people like Pheko to spread the word and the teachings on good animal treatment.

Dumping dead pets is an unhealthy practice and should be called to order.

a parent beautiful and clean while her child is without school uniform and dirty. She encouraged both parents to take responsibility of the child as the child is not the only for a mother but also for a father as well. Soccer is mostly seen or associated as a sport for boys and men but that has drastically changed as elderly and different gender people are currently participate in it. Most elderly women who are currently playing soccer have dreams to represent South Africa internationally on this game. Sarah Nyoni (62) from Mashemong section 21 near Temba, who plays for 21 Gogos Soccer Team . She says that her health has dramatically improved since playing soccer.

Nyoni is the secretary of Bagolobatlile Soccer

league which represents Gauteng province. She has lost weight from 90kg to 68kg. Her high blood pressure is controlled and is now normal.Ms Nyoni would like to encourage all the elderly people who are able to try and be active, as this would change their lives and will help the fight against chronic diseases. She proudly told Hammanskraal News that she is a striker and plays position nine. Position nine in soccer is played by someone who scores goals. Their team has been divided in to two; 21 Gogo is for team members who are above 60 and the Mamas team is for members aged between 35 and 59. Since joining the team, her mental fitness has improved. She also mentioned that she has improved in

physical strength because she can run about 20 km non stop. Some of the team members were not able to walk properly prior to joining the team, but that is now a matter of the past. “ We would like to invite other gogos to join the team because we are currently eleven members and not enough we need to have reserves or replacements. “This month we will be going to Ga-Rankua to play against Gogos from around Gauteng, Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Mametlhake , Alexander and Hammanskraal. The benefit of being part of the team is that every month, they visit other elderly people to play games. This helps that elderly people should not feel lonely and bored at their homes, it reduces stress and it

refreshes the mind. Mamas striker also 21 Gogos manager Pinkey Montshiwa (38) mentioned that they are struggling to get members for both teams. “We would like to encourage members of the community to join us because this is just for fun but will bring health benefits” said Pinky. Other challenge is finance since they travel a lot and have a majority of unemployed people in the community, this is making it difficult for people to join and they are currently without a sponsorship. Pinky would like to appeal to the businesses men and members of the community for support where they can. Hammankraal News noted that Hammanskraal gogos are beating the youth in soccer.

Hammanskraal Gogos are great in soccer
