The unique and innovative over-the-head design allows for quick and effective donning without leaving untied, exposed or slipping gowns, thus promoting compliance to infection control procedures.
A protective disposable gown made of lint-free, low-permeability fabric with a closed front, long sleeves, and elastic or knit closed cuffs should be worn. The cuffs should be tucked under the gloves. If double gloves are worn, the outer glove should be over the gown cuff and the inner glove should be under the gown cuff. When the gown is removed, the inner glove should be removed last.

Polyethylene This single layer of polyethylene film provides tremendous barrier properties. This material is ideal for situations when high levels of fluids are anticipated. This gown has a low breathability rating.
Coated Polypropylene This fabric is created by coating soft, spunbond polypropylene with a layer of impervious polyethylene. This material is ideal for any situation demanding a high level of fluid protection. Available in medium weight and heavy weight materials.
Multi-Layer Material This fabric consists of inner layers of meltblown polypropylene sandwiched between outer layers of spunbond polypropylene. Strong, fluid-resistant and breathable, this multi-layer material provides an optimal mix of protection and comfort.
Spunbond Polypropylene The standard fabric for basic protective apparel; formed by bonding fibers together to form a single layer of breathable, non-woven based material. Its main advantages are economy and comfort, but it also provides light fluid protection. This gown has a high breathability rating.

Health care professionals are trained in the essentials of an effective infection control program. Yet time constraints and inconvenience can lead to exposure when it comes to proper gown compliance.

Assure Wear VersaGown offers unique innovation as part of the most versatile line of protective apparel available. This gown is made from fluid-resistant 3-layer protective SMS fabric for maximum breathability, flexibility and strength while offering the optimal mix of protection and comfort. VersaGown also has a patented neck closure to ensure protection and can be easily donned without difficulty or needing the assistance of others, thumbloops for extra protection against sleeves that ride up and generous waist ties to lend additional versatility and protection.
FlexneckTM is the most flexible closure available on the market today. The patented FlexneckTM technology is comprised of unique and flexible, latex-free, double elastic closure that creates the widest head opening available of any gown. The FlexneckTM allows for quick donning and keeps the gown from slipping. It allows health care professionals to don protective apparel with an expansive over-the-head motion and offers assured protection when speed is of the essence without compromising safety or protection that comes from untied, gapping gowns that can slip and expose. The gown is removed after use with a swift break away motion to snap the neck closure, offering best-in-class infection control compliance.
Utilization studies were performed at two hospitals. Hospital A transitioned over to using AMD Ritmed’s AAMI level 2 gown, A69961. The hospital reported a 41% decrease in the number of gowns used, translating to an annual savings of approximately $165,000.
The reduction in gowns and savings were attributed to the ease of use, reduced gown breakages and increased compliant usage in line with AMD Ritmed’s high performing design and protective qualities.

Overall statistics show that approximately 50% of clinicians are not using their current style of gowns properly leaving them at risk for contamination.
A very high percentage of clinicians who use tie gowns are not tying them. About half of clinicians who use tape tab neck closures either have trouble when the tape pops open or sticks to their hair when attempting to close them.

Chemotherapy Drug Permeation Tested Gowns
Appropriate protection is crucial when handling cytotoxic agents. There are two standard test methods, ASTM D6978 and ASTM F739, that manufacturers may use for evaluating the permeation by chemotherapy drugs. Both methods determine a breakthrough time of the agents on the material being tested. Although the testing procedures for both standards are similar, ASTM standard D6978 is specific for testing gloves used with chemotherapeutic agents, no equivalent permeation test standard exists for protective gowns. Some gown manufacturers follow an approach similar to that used with gloves when analyzing the permeation rates of the chemotherapeutic agents. Health care professionals should look at the test method used and the breakthrough time in order to compare it with the time that they will be wearing the gown.The breakthrough time should be much longer than the wear time to ensure adequate protection.

Chemotherapy Drug Permeation Tested Gowns
ASTM F739 allows a permeation rate that is 10 times higher than D6978 does before the gown would be deemed to have failed. AMD Ritmed used ASTM D6978-05 when testing our chemotherapy gowns as we felt compelled to be able to confidently protect health care professionals who are involved in providing treatment to patients.
