A monthly publication for members of Heartland Power Cooperative | July 2016

In today’s world, you won’t find many items that cost less than $5. You can purchase a gallon of milk, a gallon of

gas or a meal from McDonald’s. But did you know that an aver-age day’s worth of electricity also costs less than five dol-lars? Even in our country’s shifting

energy climate, electricity has remained a good value. Over time, the cost of powering your home rises at a slower pace than expenses like gas and groceries. In fact, over the last ten years, the percent change of electricity has in-creased less than gasoline, eggs, ground beef, orange juice, and even bread.

At Heartland Power we agree: Affordability is important! That’s why we work so hard to keep rates low and help members decrease their usage. We offer free energy au-dits and online account access to members looking to use less energy. We provide rebates for many energy-efficient appliances and home improvements including water heat-ers, windows, heating and cooling systems, lighting, and appliances. Between hard work and efforts at the state and federal governments, our staff and board of directors con-tinually fight to keep electric rates affordable for members.

As your local electric cooperative, there are a lot of things that make us different. We put our members first, return excess funds to members via capital credit checks, and have leaders who are democratically elected from and by the membership. With a local board of directors who live and work on cooperative lines, you can trust that their intentions and yours are the same. Nobody wants to pay more than they have to.

If you’re interested in setting up an energy assessment or applying for a rebate, give us a call. We’re here to help!

Wishing you a great summer,Jon Leerar, CEO/GM

The tradition of fireworks on Independence Day dates back to July 4, 1777, the first anniversary celebration when fireworks lit up the Philadelphia night sky.

According to the American Pyrotecnic Association, an estimated 200 million pounds of fireworks are used each year on the 4th of July.

Claire Sullivan & Garrett Maakestad, both of Osage, attended Youth Tour 2016 inWashington, D.C. this June.
