Monday 8th June 2020Good morning Year 2. This week’s learning is about something exciting which happened last week which I am sure some of you will have heard about.

NASA and SpaceX MissonYou might have seen or heard about the launch of the Space X Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Crew Dragon spacecraft. Here is a photograph of it taking off!

We will be writing an opening paragraph for a newspaper report about the launch. The information on the next few slides will help you. Remember, you can refer back to these slides throughout the week.

They lifted off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida (USA) on Saturday 30th May 2020.

Space X (the company who made rocket) is owned by Elon Musk.

They travelled to the International Space Station to test the Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon capsule before it takes a full crew of 7 astronauts.

Meet the Crew!

Inside the Crew Dragon capsule wereDoug Hurley and Bob Behnken. They are astronauts and have both been to space before.

Once the Crew Dragon spacecraft reached the International Space Station, the nose opened

up so it could dock (attach).

The Rocket

The rocket comes in three parts.

These two parts are called Falcon 9 and are used to launch Crew Dragon out of the Earth's atmosphere.

They break off and fall back to Earth after the launch.

This is the Crew Dragon spacecraft. It is the only part which makes it to the International Space Station. Bob and Doug sit inside this part.
