Helen M. Kovac has been a member of the Golden Triangle Republican Women since its founding in 1989. Born April 26, 1918, Helen grew up with her parents and two brothers during the Great Depression, when there was little money to squander. Her family, the times, the opportunities available to her and her willingness to work hard molded her sense of responsibility, thrift and elegance.

After high school, Helen considered herself

privileged to have found work as an usherette in a beautiful downtown Cleveland, Ohio, theater called Playhouse Square, which is “where my life started.” Married in 1941, she followed Frank, her husband of 58 years, to a number of Army camps during WWII before returning to Ohio, where she worked as a bank teller.

Later she and Frank moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he attended Harvard Business School. Out of 4,000 applicants on the GI bill, Harvard chose 400, and Frank was one of them. Because of Helen’s good work ethic and excellent references from the bank in Ohio, Helen was “hired on the spot” by Harvard Trust, located directly across the street from their newly found apartment.

Mr. and Mrs. Kovac moved to Washington, D.C. in the early 1960’s, where Frank began working as a fundraiser for the National Republican Party. They later settled in Florida, where Helen served on the board of the local YWCA, heading up fundraising. She would find abandoned dolls, stripped of clothing on the ground or street, and would use scrap fabric to fashion dresses for them. On one occasion she even approached the renown Lilly Pulitzer about donating fabric to the cause. As another avenue of fundraising for the YWCA, she provided French cooking

lessons for groups as large as 72. That endeavor led to her writing a culinary/hostess arts column for a Palm Beach, Florida newspaper for seven years. Helen is also an accomplished painter, seamstress and maker of rugs.

Frank and Helen eventually moved to Beaumont to be near their son, Kasey. For years, they had worked “after hours” in real estate and duplicated those efforts in Beaumont, purchasing, renovating and

renting, doing much of the hard work themselves just as they had done multiple times before. They were also able to take a number of trips to Europe once Frank retired.

In addition to GTRW, Helen has been involved with both the Jefferson County Republican Party and Southeast Texas Tea Party. She has worked numerous campaigns since those early years with the Goldwater campaign. One could always count on her to provide table decorations (especially at Easter) and funds for any project undertaken by our local political organizations, let alone hours of hands-on work for candidates, calling voters, block-walking, constructing signs, gluing gum wrappers and stuffing envelopes.

Helen’s wisdom, guidance, and encouragement to younger GTRW members is unsurpassed. Many of us attribute our success as officers of GTRW to Helen Kovac. No longer able to attend our meetings, Helen keeps up with the group through our newsletter, phone calls and personal visits. And,

yes, well apprised of the politics of the day.

In her own words, Helen’s had a very satisfying life: happy marriage, a successful career, a wonderful son and family. Always working hard, she hasn’t wasted much time: “I’ve earned my salt, as they say. Every night I say thank you to God that I was useful. . . . Be grateful for everything, that’s my policy. And work! Retire? I don’t believe in it — just keep going!”

TRIBUTE TO GTRW’S HELEN KOVAC

Helen, the members of Golden Triangle Republican Women thank you for the

excellent example you’ve set for us all — and we wish you a Happy 99th Birthday!

Gorsuch as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court of the United States. Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation process was one of the most transparent and accessible in history, and his judicial temperament, exceptional intellect, unparalleled integrity, and record of independence makes him the perfect choice to serve on the Nation’s highest court. ANALYSIS/OPINION: Tuesday, April 4, 2017 - Charles Hurt

Well, that explains the deafening silence from President Obama. All these months, it turns out, it was his right-hand hatchet gal and exposed serial prevaricator Susan Rice who was behind the scenes in his administration working all the levers of the most powerful espionage machine on planet Earth to spy on Mr. Obama’s political enemies. This is jaw-dropping, bombshell information. Not because it reveals Susan “Benghazi was about a video” Rice to be a liar. We already knew that. Not because it exposed the Obama administration as the most nakedly partisan presidency in modern history, willing to use even the most sacred powers of the federal government for political purposes. We already knew that, too. What is so astonishing about the revelation that Ms. Rice was the one unmasking Donald Trump and his campaign — before, during and after he won the presidency— is that it doesn’t get any closer to Barack Obama, himself. Ms. Rice was Mr. Obama’s national security adviser, one of his closest aides. They spoke all the time. She worked directly for him. Here she was spying on Mr. Obama’s political enemies while in daily contact with him at the very height of the most contentious presidential election in memory. You don’t think she and the president discussed this? The revelation that Ms. Rice was the operator behind the spying answers just one question. But it raises a thousand more. When, exactly, did Ms. Rice start using the U.S. government’s spy operation as a weapon against Mr. Obama’s political opponents?

What conversations did she have with the president about the intel gleaned about Mr. Trump and other political enemies of Mr. Obama? As was asked of an earlier president amid far smaller crimes: What did the president know, and when did he know it? What other opponents running for the Republican nomination was the Obama administration spying on? Were any of those political enemies “unmasked” and disseminated across government agencies? Was any of that intelligence leaked to the press? Did the Obama administration spy on Sen. Bernie Sanders during the long, messy Democratic primary, when the Vermont socialist refused to get out of the way for Hillary Clinton? Remember, we now know the lengths the entire Democratic National Committee went to rig that primary for Mrs. Clinton. If there was nothing wrong with “unmasking” the identities of Mr. Obama’s political opponents and disseminating the intel, Ms. Rice, why did you flat out lie about it on national television last month? “I know nothing about this” is not exactly a robust defense of one’s actions. Most of the media, of course, is so desperate to destroy Mr. Trump and cover up anything that might reflect poorly on Mr. Obama that they would rather talk about phantom “Russia” connections instead. Fine. Investigate Russia all you want. Even if that inquiry bears fruit, it will be about as scandalous as Richard Nixon going to China. But an administration actively spying on political opponents during a presidential election, unmasking U.S. citizens and then punishing them with selective leaks to the press? That is a real scandal. And a constitution crisis that raises dire questions about whether any American citizen is safe from the espionage thuggery of the politically powerful. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/apr/4/susan-rice-somehow-manages-to-make-benghazi-cover-/

Pomona College Students Rant Against “Truth” as a White Supremacist Attempt to Silence the Oppressed

The following is taken from Lisa “Kennedy” Montgomery (famed for her outspokenness), who appears on Fox Business News; and Eric Owens, Education Editor, The Daily Caller, April 18, 2017

Kennedy: You want the truth and it's not that you can't handle it, but searching for it makes you racist. That is the claim of one group of student protesters who scrawled an angry, 1,053-word letter to the president of Pomona College in outrage over a speaker whose words offended them.

Heather MacDonald, the conservative Manhattan Institute scholar, who wrote last year's polarizing book, The War on Cops, was only the most recent addition to a growing list of opposing view holders who inspire irrational violence on some college campuses.

Now, after MacDonald's speech, which was relocated and truncated because of a zombie-like flurry of “oppressed snowflakes,” a group of 20 emotionally-challenged students wrote in their screed that truth is not only an expression of white supremacy — they also labeled MacDonald a white supremacist — but also, "The idea that the truth is an entity for which we must search, in matters that endanger our abilities to exist in open spaces, is an attempt to silence oppressed people."

Yes, they also railed against The Enlightenment -- students at a liberal arts college! Their letter also said, "The idea that we must subject ourselves routinely to the hate speech of fascists [student-speak for ‘conservatives’'] who want for us not to exist plays on the same Eurocentric constructs that believed black people to be impervious to pain and apathetic to the brutal and violent conditions of white supremacy.”

Owens: Pomona, a member of the five-school Claremont Consortium, charges $64,957 for a single year of tuition, fees and room and board.

They “demand that Pomona College and the Claremont University Consortium entities take action against the Claremont Independent editorial staff for its continual perpetuation of hate speech, anti-Blackness, and intimidation toward students of marginalized backgrounds.”

Still further, the black students “demand that this institution and its constituents take legal action” — “such as expulsion” — “against members of the Claremont Independent” if the black students “begin to receive threats and hate mail” once the Claremont Independent published the letter.

Oxtoby, the Pomona president to whom the letter is addressed, blamed then-candidate Donald Trump last year for the various race protests cropping up on campuses across the country. He suggested that America’s on-campus race protesters were angry because Trump refused to restrain his language and attitudes in the face of the students’ radical race-centered politics.

Also last year, a group of white students at Pomona College established a white-people-bashing group with the impressively long title:

“We’ve Got Work To Do: White People for Deconstructing Whiteness.” An ad for the group frothed that people with pale, cream-colored skin “are all not only complicit in, but actively perpetuating white supremacy.” Incredibly, the group was allowing only “white people who believe white supremacy exists” to join.

Kennedy: So, [according to these Pomona students] holding opposing ideas is tantamount to slavery, and if you believe in objective truth, you are a racist. So, if you've ever done a math problem, proposed a science experiment, or dialed a phone number, sorry to say, you're a racist, you love slavery, and you hate black people.

The Brookings Institution . . . crunched some numbers and found that 90 speaker dis-invitations from the last three years have come mostly from wealthy private schools with very high tuitions. In fact, the Charles Murray incident, that became so violent a liberal professor ended up in a neck brace, happened at Middlebury College where tuition is a staggering $64,000 a year. That's right, [these] kids are acting out and feigning oppression . . . . The sad thing is some of these [actual] fascists-in-training will run the world, and they'll do it with an enormous level of irrational force. God help us when they have real power.

Ronald Reagan — Faith in Our Future

Some say the future is looking impossible, filled with danger and uncertainty and scarcity. Well, the future’s always looked bleak till people with brains and faith and courage who dreamed and dared to take great risks found a way to make it better — people like Robert Fulton and Eli Whitney and Thomas Edison and Henry

Ford and Albert Einstein. Einstein himself gave us the formula — everything that is really great and inspiring was created by

individuals who labor in freedom. White House Reception for Business and

Government Leaders - June 11, 1981

Today we are engaged in a fierce struggle with the proponents of negativism, the advocates of “no.” They offer the politics of no new ideas, no growth, no incentives to work, no incentives to save, and no firm security for the Nation. And we are and must remain the proponents of “yes.” Yes, we can

have a brighter tomorrow. Yes, we can make government work. Yes, we can solve our problems. We can have a safe and strong America. Reception for Delegates to the New York

Republican State Convention June 17, 1982

To those who are fainthearted and unsure, I have this message: If you’re afraid of the future, then get out of the way, stand aside. The people of this country are ready to move again. That wonderful Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes teaches us that “to everything there is a season.” As I’ve traveled around the country, I’ve become more and more convinced that today America stands at the dawning of a season of hope. It is the hope which springs from the vitality of the American spirit, a hope that will fulfill the richness of all the promise that is within us. Standing together, steady and unfaltering, we’ll turn this new season of hope into the renewal of all the dreams and opportunities that our nation was placed on this Earth to provide.
