For all their modest beginnings as a three-hectare hobby vineyard, these guys have managed over time to establish a highly credible rep, and really, there’s been no looking back from that first gold medal for their first-ever Pinot Noir.

Resident genius in the winemaking department is the ultra-talented Malcolm Rees-Francis, a gent who looks as if he’s not long out of uni but who has in fact been at the helm now since 2006; so a while in the saddle. He is a big fan of letting the fruit and its terroir do the talking, and by the look of the awards cabinet, he’s got the mix about right.

And it’s not just the Pinot that’s kicking it, their Stolen Kiss rosé, for instance, is incredibly popular and sells out in a minute, leaving in its wake each year a bevy of frustrated punters (clue: it’s instore and online right now, so be in while you can). In fact, the highest quality extends throughout the entire portfolio, with excellence across the board the primary objective.

A sublimely executed Chardonnay that evokes its cool-climate location as it introduces itself with spice-tinged stonefruit and citrus aromas, followed up by a complex palate characterised by pure fruit flavours and creamy textures. Elegant.

The craft brewer’s biggest enemy? Light. Yep; since their product is invariably as pure as the driven snow, it’s particularly susceptible to the ravages of the rays.
