ACADEMIC AND ACTIVITY AWARDS

Jane Britton Excellence in English Aword is presented by the English Department to the outstanding senior inEnglish. The award is named in honor of former English Teacher Jane Britton.

Creative Writing Award is presented by the English Department to the student who has demonstrated outstandingachievement in creative writing.

Glenview Librory Association Scholarship is presented by the Glenview Library Association to the senior who

demonstrates excellence in English, particularly in the understanding, interpretation, and appreciation of literature.

Brown Book Award is presented to the junior who best combines outstanding attributes with excellence in English.

Outstanding Student in Publications is presented to the students who make the most outstanding contributions to

GBS publications -- literary magazine, newspaper and yearbook.

Outstanding New Journalism Student is presented by the Etruscan to the outstanding new publications student inyearbook.

Leanne Black Award is presented by the Oracle to the outstanding new student involved in newspaper production.

Florence Steiner Memorial Award is presented by the.Foreign Language Department to the outstanding scholars in

German, Spanish, and French. The award is named in memory of Dr. Florence Steiner, former Glenbrook South ForeignLanguage Department Chairman and Glenbrook High School Director of Instruction and Developmental Services.

Latin Club Scholarship is presented to a senior Latin Club member who blends high scholarship with involvement inschool activities and plans to continue educational pursuits.

International Club Scholarship is awarded to the outstanding senior who has been dedicated to improving inter-

national relations through the study of foreign languages.

Artist of the Year is presented by the Art Department to those students who not only have demonstrated growth in thefield of art but who have proven exceptional talent.

Outstanding Achievement in Radio Production Award is presented to students for their outstanding contributionsto programming on WGBK.

Golden Microphone Award is presented to those students who deliver the announcements during the year over the

public address system.

Excellence in Television Award recognizes contributions made by senior class members in television production.

Television Production Leadership Award recognizes contributions by a senior who demonstrates exceptional

technical skills and positive leadership abilities.

Dance Award is presented by the GBS Dance Company to the senior who has made the most outstandingcontributions to dance.

Debater of the Year Award is presented to the outstanding students in debate.

Outstanding Senior Drama Student Award is presented by the Drama Department to the senior who has displayed

the most dedication to the objectives of the GBS Theatre.

Technical Theatre Hall of Fame Award is presented to the senior who has shown exceptional talent and dedicationto the Glenbrook South technical theatre.

Glenview Theatre Guild Scholarship is presented by the Glenview Theatre Guild to a senior who plans to continue in

a career of performing an4'or theatre arts.

Outstanding Senior Speech Team Member Award is presented to the senior member who has made an outstanding

contribution to the individual events/speech team.

Peter M. Pappas Instrumental Music Awards are presented by the Instrumental League to the senior instrumentalistsin recognition of outstanding achievement in Marching, Jazz and Symphonic Bands.

The John Philip Sousa Award is presented by the United States Marine Youth Foundation, Inc. to the senior band

member who is an outstanding performer both as a soloist and band member and who also displays outstanding service

to his community.

Outstanding Orchestra Member Award is presented by the Music Department to the senior who has made the most

outstanding contributions to the orchestra.

Outstanding Senior in Choral Music is presented by the Music Department to the senior in vocal music who has

exhibited outstanding leadership, musicianship and service to the department, school and community.

Music Department Distinguished Service Award is presented to a music student involved in every facet of the

music program.

Best Student in Business is presented by the Glenview Chamber of Commerce to the most outstanding student inbusiness education.

Outstanding Advanced Career Placement Award is presented to the most outstanding student in the AdvancedCareer Placement Program.

Diversified Cooperative Education Award is presented by the DCE Department to the most outstanding student in

the Diversified Cooperative Education program.

Women's American ORT Award is presented by the Northern lllinois Region of ORT to a student who plans to pursuea vocational career.

Family and Consumer Sciences Distinguished Service Award is presented to the student who has given of timeand talents to departmental operations.

Family and Consumer Sciences General Awards are presented to the outstanding students in each of the diverseareas of this subject matter -- Clothing and Textiles, Culinary, Child Development and Interior Design.

Applied Technology General Awards are presented by the Applied Technology Department to the outstandingstudents in each of the areas of this subject matter -- Automotives, Drafting, Electronics, Woodworking, Living in Space

and Photography.

lllinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Award is presented by the Mathematics Department for excellent

performance in senior mathematics.

Senior Mathematics Award is presented by the Mathematics Department to the graduating seniors who have displayed

exceptional accomplishment in mathematics.

Senior Computing Award is presented by the Mathematics and Business Education Departments to those seniors whohave demonstrated outstanding achievement in computers or have provided exceptional service to the computer program.

Pep Club Awards are presented by the GBS Pep Club to seniors for demonstrated leadership, reliability andmeritorious service to the school and community over the past four years.

Outstanding Senior Leaders Award is presented by the Physical Education Department to those seniors in theLeaders Progrom that have demonstrated enthusiasm in helping others, showed responsibility and reliability, and exhibit-

ed leadership and service in physical education and throughout the school.

Glenbrook South Sports Medicine Award is presented to a student in appreciation of their outstanding dedication

and commitment to the sports medicine program and the athletes of Glenbrook South.

Most Valuable Player Award is presented by each varsity athletic team to the member who has made the most

valuable contribution to the success of the team.

Titan Pom Boosters Scholarship is sponsored by the Titan Pom Booster Club to a deserving Titan Pom in the pursuit

of post-secondary education.

Athlete of the Year is presented by the Athletic Department coaching staff to the most outstanding athletes.

National Scholar/Athlete Award is presented by the United States Army Reserve to the seniors who best combine

athletic ability with outstanding scholastic achievement.

Titan Booster Club Scholarship Award is presented by the Titan Booster Club to two college-bound senior athletes

with above average academic rankings who have demonstrated throughout their four years good character and exemplarysportsmanship.

AAPT Physics Award is presented to a student who demonstrates outstanding physics skills.

Chemistry Citation is provided by the Illinois Association of Chemistry Teachers to the most outstanding chemistryscholar.

Medical Technology Award is presented to a student who derrionstrates high skills and dedication in medical

technology.

National Association of Biology Teachers Award is presented to a student who demonstrates outstanding aptitude

in the biological sciences.

Leo J. Leathers Horticulture Award is presented by the Science Department to the outstanding student ofhorticulture. The award is named in memory of former science teacher, Leo J. Leathers.

Illinois Science Teachers Award is presented to an outstonding science student who combines scholarship and service.

Science General Awards are presented to students who have given outstanding service to the Science Department.

Bausch and Lomb Award is presented by the Bausch and Lomb Optical Company to the junior student who

demonstrates the highest scholarship achievement in the field of science.

Dr. Alan F. Thometz Award is presented by the Glenview Chamber of Commerce to the student who is distinguishedfor high scholarship and contributes to the community of science scholars.

Kraft Science and Engineering Award is a scholarship presented by Kraft, Inc. of Glenview to an outstanding sciencestudent who plans to continue studies in science and engineering.

Rensselear Medal is presented by the Renssalear Polytechnic Institute of Troy, New York to the junior student who is

the outstanding science and mathematics student.

David P. Pasquini Award is presented by the Social Studies Department to a student who has demonstrated a passion

for the study of history, a sense of community responsibility and exemplary character. The award is named in memory ofDavid P. Pasquini, Instructional Supervisor of Social Studies, distinguished teacher and coach.

Robert B. Adams Award presented by the Social Studies Department to those students who have displayed

outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and a sense of community responsibility. The award is named in memoryof Robert B. Adams, Instructional Supervisor of Social Studies, Co-Director of the Glenbrook Academy of InternationalStudies and distinguished teacher.

Key Club Award is presented to senior members of the Key Club who have most enthusiastically and reliably demon-strated the ideals of community service.

Inte_act Service Award is given by the Interact Club to those members who have enthusiastically and reliably

demonstrated the ideals of this service organization.

James Nettleton Memorial Scholarship is presented by the Glenview Optimist Club to recognize the most outstanding

member of the Student to Student Club. This club promotes a drug-free lifestyle for Glenbrook South students.

National Merit Finalists are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as determined by its nationwidecontest.

Dartmouth College Book Award is presented by the Dartmouth Club of Chicago to the junior students who bestcombine a high degree of scholastic ability with qualittes of leadership, respect from classmates, individuality andmaturity.

Williams College Book Award is presented to the junior who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made asignificant contribution to the extra-curricuiar life of the schoo/.

Glenbrook Educators' Association Scholarship is presented by the Glenbrook Educators' Association (GEA) to thesenior who demonstrates academic excellence and future dedication to the education profession.

Glenview Sunrise Rotary Club Scholarship is presented by the Glenview Sunrise Rotary Club to a graduating seniorwho has an exemplary record as a good school and community citizen.

Glenview Woman's Club Scholarship is presented to a student for continuing education who excels academically anddemonstrates dependability.

Paul Jones Memorial Scholarship is presented by the Glenview State Bank and is presented to one senior boy andone senior girl who have exhibited high scholastic potential and citizenship.

Glenview President's Annual Community Scholarship was established by the Village of Glenview in cooperationwith Northwest Municipal Conference and the Private Industry Council; this scholarship is awarded to the senior who hasexhibited an outstanding contribution to the school and has displayed an educational committment..

Glenview Women of Today Scholarship is presented to two students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuingtheir education and who have made a contribution to the school and community.

Robert J. O'Hara Memorial Scholarship is provided by the Optimist Club of Glenview to a student interested in avocational or technical career.

Zanoni Family Scholarship is presented to a student who exhibits scholastic achievement, performance as a golfer ona Glenbrook South Team and plans for college.

Glenview Library Association Scholarship is presented by the Glenview Library Association to the senior who

demonstrates excellence in English, particularly in the understanding, interpretation and appreciation of literature.

Glenbrook Scholarship ispresented by the Board of Education for continuing education to a senior who demonstratescitizenship, service and academic achievement.

Glenview Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Award is presented by the Glenview Optimist Club to seniors who havedemonstrated outstanding qualities in citizenship, scholarship, sportsmanship or vocational ability.

The Principal's Award is presented by the Principal to seniors who have displayed an excellence and balance ofachievement and have been afforded recognition of service by their fellow students and their teachers.

William H. Schreiner Titan Spirit Award is presented by the coaching staff and sponsors of the athletic program'ssupporting organizations to the seniors who have contributed to the success of the athletic program not necessarily withathletic prowess but with outstanding service, leadership, personality and dependability.

DAR Good Citizen Award is presented by Kaskaskia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to a senior

who best exemplifies the character traits of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

SAR Good Citizen Award is presented by the American Bicentennial Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolutionto a senior who has best displayed dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Eileen Gamble Memorial Scholarship is presented by the Parents' Association for continuing education to seniors foroutstanding scholarship and service to school and community. The scholarship is named in memory of former teacherand Parents' Association Advisor, Eileen Gamble.

Glenview Rotary Club High Achievement Award is presented by the Glenview Rotary Club to seniors who havedemonstrated high achievement in scholarship, personal traits and participation in social and extra-curricular activities.

Mark C. Hiller Award is presented to a senior who displays outstanding characteristics in scholarship and service toschool and community. The award is named in memory of Mark C. HIller, member of the Class of 1968, who was a sin-cere, dedicated student of quiet and unshakable courage, especially in the long illness that preceded his death.

Distinguished Teacher Award is sponsored by the Parents' Association and is presented to a teacher who has madeoutstanding contributions.

Norman E. Watson Leadership Award is presented by the Senior Class and the Faculty to the seniors who haveshown, throughout their four high school years, unusual, exceptional leadership and service to their schoo/. The award isnamed in memory of Dr. Norman E Watson, Superintendent of the Glenbrook High Schools from 1952 to 1965.

Parents' Association Outstanding Senior Award is presented by the Parents' Association to the seniors who havebeen the outstanding students of their graduating class and have demonstrated scholastic excellence, leadership in schoolactivities and service to the school.

Those responsible for the Honors and Awards Assembly gratefully acknowledge the contributions made bythe Honors and Awards Committee, the Student Council, the Music Department, Mark Ferguson, RichardWinship and David H.
