Get Noticed Getting noticed by others can be hard to do, so many businesses resort to paid for advertising. Today, we’ll talk about both paid advertising and getting noticed without a budget just by being interesting.
Come on, let’s get started.
Yesterday & Today
Forget the legal sides, forget about making a big profit, just turn it into a learning exercise. Who knows where it will lead!
Forget making money, just have fun 1 It doesn’t really matter how you start and your idea will
adapt and change after you start anyway – just do it!
Take the first step & just start 2
Take the pressure off yourself and start your project in your weekends and evenings. You don’t need lots of money to start.
You can do a lot with no money 3 Today is about how to market your company with
and without a budget for advertising.
Today: How to Gain some attention 4
Marketing is just about talking to customers
Marketing is a big word for a small idea
The
Seven ps Of marketing
The price of your product and how you
charge customers (subscription or one-
off payment)

The places where you sell your product (shops, etc.)

might use (2for1s, discounts, etc.)

products to

To us this is what marketing
is really about
If you passed this cow in a field,
you wouldn’t tell anyone else.
But if you passed a
PURPLE COW, perhaps you would stop
to tell your friends. Stand out from the crowd, be
interesting, be the purple cow!
First of all, let’s assume you have no money
So how can you get noticed as a small business venture?
Tell them who you are
Explain clearly
Tell them how you
found them
Phoning & emailing
works well Simply phoning and emailing people about
what you provide can work really well. Try and only target the people who
would genuinely be interested in what you have to offer, as ‘Cold Calling’
is hit and miss.
Be friendly
Social media is about being interesting
Social media can be a great way of getting the word out but it is very slow burning
(it takes time to build up a following). There are no guaranteed results, but it’s
easy to tell if you’re doing well.
Remember it’s a slow process
Blog to show off your
knowledge Blogging is one of the best ways of new
customers finding you online and it’s commonly referred to as ‘Content
Marketing’. Showing off your knowledge builds trust and people are more
likely to use you.
Measure with google Analytics
Now Let’s assume you have a small amount of money
Are you working at the moment?
Hand out some flyers A very cheap way of getting noticed, especially if you can get a good deal on the printing costs. Just think about who you’re giving them out to as otherwise 99% will end up in the bin. It’s especially effective for local events and services – and even online communities!
Cheap costs 1
Good for promoting events & services In the local area
2
Be prepared that most flyers will end up in the bin
3
Try adding Discount codes to check if your flyers
are being effective
Advertise online If you already have a website, online advertising can be really effective. It’s targeted directly at the users which are most likely to want your product, and you only pay if someone is interested enough to click through onto your website.
Perhaps the most effective way to advertise 1
Targets the people who are most likely to be interested in what you offer
2
Set a budget & only get charged when someone actually clicks on the advert
3 Measure
with Online Analytics
Throw a launch party Actually, running a family, music or food event is an excellent way of getting noticed. While they do take some planning & organisation skills, any money you spend on the event you can make back through ticket sales. If you’re lucky, the local press or bloggers will get involved and give you some free coverage.

Get the local press involved to get some free coverage
2
Takes a lot of planning and organisation
3
Did you
sell any tickets?
Rent a stand at an event Renting a stall at an event, fair, festival or sports event isn’t too expensive and anything you do spend, you can make up for by selling products there and then. Think which event would suit your target audience and get in touch the event’s sales team to find prices and availability.
Usually quite affordable 1
Lots of interaction with new customers
2
On the spot sales and email sign ups if they’re interested

TV & Radio advertising is dead TV & Radio advertising had it’s hay day before the arrival of the internet. Now we have so many channels, and so little attention for ad
breaks that TV advertising is barely effective anymore. It’s fine if you’re a large company, but stay well away as a small business.
Really expensive
Not targeted
No way of measuring
The average TV advert will cost you around £20,000 (€25,000 or $30,000), and that’s for a low-budget, non-primetime commercial.
You can’t target the people who would be most interested in your advert, you just have to show everyone and hope someone is listening.
You can’t measure whether your TV advertising campaign has been effective or not, you’re just hoping it works. Any raise in sales could come from any other marketing channel.
If you don’t measure, how do you know what to do again?
Measuring with Online Analytics
Google Adwords has keyword analytics
Facebook has facebook analytics
Mailchimp has Email analytics
Blogs have Google analytics

This was a launch event the producers of the film ‘Carrie’
organised to generate some

Things to takeaway
You can get noticed with a budget of zero, but it is much more difficult. You need to be creative and fun.
You can get noticed on zero budget 1
Interesting ideas are worth writing about. Try and be the interesting company that doesn’t need too much advertising.
Interesting companies advertise themselves 2
We live in a time where it’s really easy to measure how effective your marketing has been. Ask them how!
Ask customers how they found you 3 Try and be interesting, a little different, and certainly worth
talking about. If you can, you’ll go further with less effort.
