Page 3: Gatorade vs. Water

Hydration• If you are working out for more than a hour or

you are working out intensely for a shorter time period, then drinking Gatorade is better for you than water. It will keep fluids in your system longer and it also helps to replace what you sweat out. It contains more vitamins and minerals than regular water. It is also high in calories and contains a small amount of carbohydrates that help replace the energy you lose while playing sports, preventing dehydration.

• If you just need a drink when you are thirsty,

water will quench your thirst and keep you hydrated just as well as Gatorade will without the added calories or carbohydrates. Water is also good in combination with Gatorade for sports or working out. Water is essential to keep your body hydrated. Our bodies are 50-65% water.

calories. • If you don’t want to add on the extra 85

calories from drinking a standard sized bottle of Gatorade then you should drink water instead. You will have to drink more water than Gatorade if you are relying solely on water during exercise, but will avoid the calories.
