Zwickau, Germany 2010 IMAF World Budo Seminar Dedication Dr. Takahiro Shinyo Japanese Ambassador to Germany Please accept my sincere welcome on the occasion of the Kokusai Budoin, IMAF 2010 Budo World Seminars. I take much pleasure from the fact that Budo, Japanese traditional martial arts and culture, has become a unifying element of integration internal relations, where practitioners find common interests lead to mutual understanding. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Japanese and German national relations, and I look forward to further exchange and development. In particular, the Kokusai Budoin, International Martial Arts Federation (IMAF) events in Zwickau provide an excellent opportunity for people from Europe and Japan to share camaraderie on this grand occasion. Indeed, I hope the study of the arts of Budo, will lead to brotherhood among international practitioners, and thereby, foster a more peaceful world. continued on page 2 G E N D O 精力善用自他共栄 The objectives of the Kokusai Budoin, IMAF, include the expansion of interest in Japanese Martial Arts; the establishment of communication, friendship, understanding and harmony among member chapters; the development of the minds and bodies of its members; and the promotion of global understanding and personal growth. © 2010 Kokusai Budoin, IMAF All rights reserved. Dr. Takahiro Shinyo Japanese Ambassador to Germany 2010 Spring Japan Tour

April 01 - 12, eighteen IMAF members and friends joined the 2010 Spring Japan Tour that was organized by Christine and Hans-D. Rauscher.

Thursday, 01 April, after arriving at Narita international airport, all members of the tour took a shuttle bus directly to the Takanawa Tobu Hotel in Shinagawa, Tokyo. As usual, headquarters representatives, Chief Director Sato Sensei, Yoshida Sensei, Hara Sensei, Iwasa Sensei and Gage Sensei were waiting at the hotel to greet us. Following check in, all went out for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Friday 02 April, our first full day in Japan began with breakfast, Japanese or European, according to one’s desire. Then all members went on an excursion to Asakusa, with its legendary Kaminarimon gate, and awe-inspiring main temple. After sightseeing and a little shopping we made our way to Yokohama for iaido training with Iwasa Sensei and Tode Sensei. Afterwards we shared dinner to end a truly memorable day.

Saturday morning featured training at the Embassy Dojo under the direction of Sato Sensei, IMAF Judo and Nihon Jujutsu Shihan.

Following lunch, aikido practitioners stayed for afternoon training at the Embassy Dojo, while karate-do practitioners went to train at Higuchi Dojo, and iaido practitioners went to Ueno Park for Hanami, a picnic among the sakura (cherry trees).

Sunday we spent the day at Ikushinkan Dojo, where Dan exams and a kata contest were scheduled. IMAF Chief Director Sato Sensei presided over the presentation ceremony and a long but rewarding day drew to a close.

Monday morning included a tour of Odawara Castle. Afterwards, the Karateka and Rauscher Sensei went to a special training session with Higuchi Sensei, while the others toured Yokohama.

Tuesday morning was free, and in the afternoon we joined Sakai Sensei and Iwasa Sensei for karate-do and iaido training in Yokohama.

Highlights during our final days in Japan included exceptional training, sightseeing at the world famous fish market Tsukiji, the beautiful temples of Toshogu in Nikko, and the ancient capital of Kamakura, as well as a farewell banquet featuring senior IMAF HQ instructors and IMAF President Tokugawa Yasuhisa, great-great grandson of the final Tokugawa Shogun.

Members and friends are invited to join the 2011 Spring Japan Tour: April 20 – May 01. See page one for all details.
