An episode from the famous Ramayana epic comes to life on a giant shadow screen. The tale illuminates a powerful demon king and his desire for the beautiful goddess Tara. Legendary monkey brothers Subali and Sugriwa are enlisted to help the gods repel the rejected suitor’s armies in a story told through wayang listrik, a modern Balinese theatre genre that blends shadow puppetry (wayang kulit), dance and music. Traditional carved leather puppets, actors as shadow puppets, Balinese dance, and a live gamelan orchestra share the stage.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical distills past and present into enchanting, poignant truths about art, love and life. Inspired by George Seurat’s world-famous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, this play breathes life into the masterpiece and paints an artistic portrait of Seurat himself and his fixation with art. A fast-forward then introduces us to his great-grandson who carries on Seurat’s creative, destructive and obsessive legacy.

Welcome to the 2015-2016 T+D Season!
We’re “Putting It Together” just for you, with our signature array of Asian Theatre, Theatre for Young Audiences, Dance, Western Theatre and a Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. We’re proud to say that no one else on earth gives you the breadth of performances that we do, all performed by professionals-in-training and guided by renowned specialists. This is your chance to catch home-grown and university-cultivated talent before they venture into the profession, following in the footsteps of our previous graduates who perform, teach, and publish all over the world.
Building on last season’s wildly successful inaugural Hawaiian Theatre production of La‘ieikawai, this season offers even more collaboration and innovation - perfect opportunities for our students to spread their artistic wings.
We’re also proud to be hosting our region’s Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in February 2016. It is the first time our state will host this prestigious gathering of theatre innovators, educators and emerging talents. Connect with Kennedy Theatre to keep informed about special KCACTF performances, our season of shows, events and more. Please join us for an artistic journey like no other - in the park, through the jungle, beyond the imagination, into the heat of battle - all live on stage.
