My Real World Question
Kristin and her four friends went to the zoo. The ticket costs $15.00, and the parking fee is $3.00. With this being said, how much money would be needed?
The Equation
The equation is as follows:
15x+3=yX= number of friendsY= money needed
Independent and Dependent
The independent variable is the x value.
The dependent variable is the y value.
The money needed to go to the zoo(y) depends on the number friends(x).
Is it a Function?
This would definitely be a function because the (x) values don’t repeat.
Is it Continuous or Discrete? This graph is discrete because it
skips the numbers between the whole numbers.
Table of Values
x $15.00x+3 y (x,y)
1 $15(1)+3 $18 (1,18)
2 $15(2)+3 $33 (2,33)
3 $15(3)+3 $48 (3,48)
4 $15(4)+3 $63 (4,63)
5 $15(5)+3 $78 (5,78)
Domain and Range
Domain is the x values only
Range is the y values only
My domain would be{1,2,3,4,5}My range would
be{18,33,48,63,78}

The Answers
The conclusion is that the cost per ticket is $15.00, so multiply by five because there are four friends along with Kristin.
And you don’t want to forget the parking fee, so with the total($75.00), add $3.00. Therefore the grand total would be $78.00.
