July 2012 THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE ARIZONA MG CLUB President, Buckey McChesney FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT Hello everyone, If you missed the annual pool party, you missed a great one. Wine tasting, swimming and eating good food cooked by Gary Sattler. Guess who won the wine tasting? Yep, Ginger Pottenger. Even the dust cloud came. The cannonball competition was certainly fun. My original competition was Ed Striffler’s son Sam. Gil Schaulin came a little later and did a huge whopper of a splash doing a can opener. I did my usual cannonball and did well after the two palm fronds were cut back. I’m not sure who won. It truly was fun. This is one of those months that are just too hot to drive the MG’s. Early morning, say 4 to 5 AM isn’t bad but the desert gets hot quickly and stays hot all day long. The summer heat really makes me tired. The monsoon season is here, so please be careful when you are out and about. Be careful of the washes as they can run fast and furious. Be cautious in dust storms. They can be deadly. I really wanted to buy and install a four post car lift so I could stack my MG’s and have room for the other car. The choices are: 1. Raise the ceiling in the garage which may be costly, 2. Scrap the idea entirely. If you have a standard garage with standard height and you have a four post lift, can I visit and check it out, please. Call or email me. The sooner I see what is out there, the sooner I can make my decision to go forward or scrap the idea. Are you using some of the newer motor oils out there? I think I will try the “new” Defy motor oil in my Magnette and see if there is any difference. The least it will do is coat the metal pieces with a coating that should be better than the older less DDP oils. If you have experience with the newer synthetic motor oils, you can write an article for Don to publish in our newsletter. I have been searching for another breakfast eatery and have found two locations that may work. Now I have to stop in and check the places out. So look for more info on that, probably in the next newsletter. We also have other people searching for breakfast locations so we have some more variety around the city. My idea is to try and get as many members as we can to come out for food and fun in different areas of the city and share the friendship. Look in the newsletter for more info on the calendar. The 14 th is coming soon. Buckey Highlights in This Issue …. Pool Party 2012

On June 16th, we had our annual pool party at Tracy and Gary Sattlers home in Glendale. It was well attended and thanks to Sharon Gray (who works in the wine industry), we had our 3rd annual wine tasting contest. The person who gets the most correct answers to what wines we were tasting wins a bottle of wine. For the second year, Gin-ger and Don Pottenger won! Ken and Fran Atkinson’s wine won for the most favorite bottle of tasting wine. This has always been a fun game and this year was no exception. After the game we ate, drank and were merry. Then we had the Cannonball and Belly Flop contest. Competing were Bucky McChesney, Ken Adkison, Gil Schaulin, and Ed Striffler's son Sam. Buckey won the Cannonball contest and Sam Striffler won the Belly Flop because of no competition.
