Club members Sharron and Jim Fowler’s grandson Braxton’s 1st first car Show was in Pel-
ham, Ga on April 27, 2019. As his Mimi drove with him strapped in his car or truck seat, as
he refers to it now, she noticed he was quiet. It was then she realized every thing in his
world was different from any ride he had taken before. It was his first view of a highway from
the front seat of a vehicle. The ride over held lots of questions about why is one line white
and one line yellow and why isn’t there a steering wheel on his side of the truck. Mimi told
him what his great Grandpa use to say. Just keep it between the ditches. He spent hours pol-
ishing old Lizzie that day at the show. To any one that would listen and a lot of visitors did,
he would tell them that Lizzie was named after his great great great grandmother Elizabeth
and that he had 10 years left before he could drive her. After lunch that day we looked
around and found him enjoying a nap in his chair. Poor thing Lizzie had worn him out. At the
end of the day when they handed out awards he was all smiles as he accepted Lizzie’s award.
On the drive home he was quiet again taking in all that was to be seen from that front seat.
About the only question was, “Mimi, do girls
always hand the trophies out and when is the
next car show?” Lord help us all!!!

If you weren’t there for the May 2019 Monthly Meeting - you should have been. I know that everyone can’t make the meetings. Some members have conflicts with other meetings, some may have had a personal conflict or may have been out of town. Fortunately, we have had excellent attendance at all of our meet-ings this year. The meetings have been lively and very informative and mostly positive.
This last meeting I put an agenda item that said “Anyone present can bring up anything they want”. Ironically, that is true of every meeting we have ever had. But to just make sure that point was made, I put it on the agenda. In the past there have been some comments made about a possible limit of available time to discuss one or another topic. That conversa-tion was put to rest at the May Monthly Meeting. There was only one comment on this topic. The member brought up that any member could attend any event they want, or, conversely, they could not attend any event they did not want to attend. I think that perfectly sums up the club’s feelings. It certainly sums up my feelings. I have always said that any member could come to any and all events, or any member does not need to attend any events. All are still welcome in the SGCCC. A positive reflection of the SGCCC is all I ask of anyone.
The Super Cruise-In is just around the cor-ner. June 1st at Lowe's Parking Lot. The event will host any and all participants. Cars, trucks, motorcy-cles, tractors will all be featured in a "run what you brung" event. George Hardy heads up the commit-tee and will be asking each of you to help the SGCCC put on this important contribution to our community. If you have ideas or want to volunteer, please call George or me. Everyone is welcome to come and help. We have a meeting scheduled for 6 PM on Friday night before this Saturday event. Meet at the Lowe’s parking lot east of the building. Raymond is providing the music.
Until next time.

Meeting: Club President Dan Bremer opened the May meeting at 6:45 pm at Austin’s Cattle Company. The opening prayer was led by Paul Worth and Jim Fowler led the Pledge of Allegiance. Our two newest members, Mike Dasher and Ron Rife, introduced themselves. There were 37 members in attendance.
Minutes: The April minutes were read by club Secretary Bob Raffaele and were approved by those present.
Treasurer’s Report: Club Treasurer Donna Roberson pre-sented the April report and it was approved by those pre-sent.
In recognition of Logan Birdsong’s tireless efforts and con-tributions to our club, Rick Hastings proposed that Logan be honored with “lifetime club membership.” The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
New club webmaster Paul Worth covered some recent up-dates to our website’s event calendar making it more user-friendly. He encouraged members to send photos of their vehicles for inclusion in the gallery section.
Old Business: George Hardy reviewed sponsorship needs of the Fall Classic Show.
With the June 1st Super Cruise-in fast approaching, George has scheduled a walk-thru on Friday 5/31 at 6 pm in the Lowes parking lot (east side).
George also passed around sign-up sheets for the new club t-shirts where you could choose your style, color and size.
New Business: Jim Fowler gave a presentation on the Hagerty Youth Judging program. This will be an excellent opportunity to involve the children of the Sheriff’s Youth home as participants. A motion was made, seconded and passed authorizing this project.
The club cruiser is in need of maintenance and repairs. Ben’s Tire & Auto will do an inspection and estimate for the work needed. A suggestion was made that in future years the club’s budget should include a line-item for cruiser ex-pense.
Logan reported on recent car show activity by club mem-bers. 11 members went to Plains with 3 bringing home trophies. The Pelham event had 18 members with 14 tro-phies and the $100 club participation trophy. 15 members attended the Advent Christian Village show.
We had 3 members at Bojangle’s on Saturday morning and 6 members at Waffle House in the evening.
The May Drive & Dine is scheduled for 5/25 to the Mr. Chick Car Museum (4 buildings) and restaurant in Cairo. We will depart at 12:30 pm from McDonald’s on Hill Ave.
Roger Powell won the 50/50 and donated in back to the club
Meeting: adjourned at 8:25 pm.

On May 4, some SGCCC members attended the Fifth Annual Cruizin’ On The Suwannee Show at the Advent
Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL. Members were treated to lunch, tours of the village, and a ride up the Su-
wannee River on the village's new pontoon boat. Meanwhile, the residents and visitors to the village got a close-up
look at the vehicles. Ms. Gladys asked to have her picture taken with one of her favorites. May we all look and act
as spunky as she is at 96 years young! Even though it was hot, it was by far one of the best days spent listening to
stories about lives, loves and automobiles of long ago.

Gary Pohlman Benefit Car Show
Camilla Car Show Sharron Foster: SGCCC had a good turn out on Saturday
May 11, 2019 at the Camilla Gnat Days Festival Car Show.
Sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts. Johnny Swilley took home
Best of Show. Some club members took home plaques, one a
trophy, and others door prizes and even some CASH. The
weather held off and a good time was had by all. The only
unfortunate part, the gnats followed us home.

May surely was a very busy month! Thanks for all the contributions to the Driver’s Seat with re-ports and pictures from many recent shows and cruise-ins. Thanks to the story by Sharron about her grandson, Braxton—the youngest car enthu-siast to make the cover!
While we see many of the same cars at area cruise-ins and shows, it is great to see pictures of some of the cars we don’t see regularly. The Gary Pohlman Benefit show at Thomas Collision seems to have brought out several local cars that we don’t see very often. Keep encouraging these owners to participate in our regular cruise-ins and shows.
June 1 is almost here—the Super Cruise-in at Lowes on St. Augustine. We will get reports from George Hardy and his committee at the monthly meeting on June 4. Be sure to be at both the Su-
per Cruise-in and the monthly meeting!
We need all members to be selling sponsor-ships for the Fall Classic Car & Truck Show. This has the possibility of being the best one ever.
Come to the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch on June 7 for a cookout with the children and staff there. Bring side dishes and desserts. We will be cooking in time to eat at 5:00, and give the children rides until 6:00 or so. This is always a great time as we get to know some to these fine young people a little better.
Looking forward to seeing you at the club meeting on June 4 and at car shows and cruise-ins this month.
Take a kid to a car show! Happy Cruising!
