Tremendous Grassroots Response
• Grassroots and professional efforts by the broad network of The Florida Housing Coalition, the Sadowski Education Effort, the Sadowski Coalition, and the Sadowski Affiliates have worked amazingly well during the regular session.
• The Senate has been poised from the start of this year’s session to use all the Housing Trust Funds for Florida’s housing programs — now we need to do everything we can to make that a reality in the Special Session.
• The key is education at the community level about the importance of affordable housing to your community.
Next Step: Appropriations
• With this success behind us, we now move to appropriations
• Special Session starts June 1
• The House and Senate will be working to pass a budget
• We want that budget to use all the housing trust funds for
housing
• We want the House to move to the Senate position

House and Senate
• The actual appropriation takes agreement between House and
Senate
• We want the House to take the Senate’s position – to use all of
the housing trust fund monies for housing – no sweeps.
• Thank Senate Leadership: President Gardiner, Appropriations
Chair Lee, TED Committee Chair Latvala
• Thank your Senator-
• What will it take to get the House to move to the Senate
position?
Housing Appropriations
Comparison Paper
• Outside of real life examples in your community, the most effective
tool in making the case for full appropriation of the housing funds for
housing : The Housing Appropriations Comparison Paper.
• Housing Appropriations Comparison Paper – one-page document for
every legislator that includes the Legislator’s photo and details the
difference between Senate and House housing appropriation levels, the
economic impact differences, and the SHIP allocation in each
Legislator's district. Check out the one-pagers: Senate and House
• With the Housing Appropriations Comparison Paper, you will be able
to see what a significant benefit it will be to your community if the
House moves to the Senate position on funding.
Steps to Take Now
• Make an appointment to see your Representative in the district
office before the end of May
• Take the Housing Appropriations Comparison Papers with you
– Senate
– House
• Can you share some local stories?
• Can you show your legislator/legislative aide some of what you
do?
