There were 9 channels for this Flashmob which was way to many. I believe there should be have been maximum 4 channels. These would be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Foursquare. The other channels can be incorporated into these channels.

Used for pre event awareness Photos from Flashmob were shared

here YouTube video was shared here The Page had 25 Likes Could have been more widely used

Twitter

The #chalkaboutit hashtag was used very frequently pre/post event

Twitter was great to update the public “Live” during the event

Photos were tweeted during the event Twitter managers thanked the public for

following and interacting with them during the event

YouTube

An introduction video was pre flash mob to let the public know about the event

This video had 178 views A video montage of clips of the event

was posted right after the event This video had 186 views

Foursquare

The 3 locations Market Square, Empire Theater, and The Hubb were added as check in points

Market square had the most check ins with 8 check ins, followed by Empire Theater 4 check in points, & The Hubb with 1

Photos were added of all check in points

Instagram

Had a variety of pictures of the flash mob uploaded

Total of 45 pictures uploaded Instagram account had 45 followers It was a great visual medium for the

flash mob during and post event

The Account had 32 invites 4 participants The team updated what was happening

at the 3 different flash mob stations This channel did not really take off

because of the low participant rate Google hangnout is a great tool to reach

people that can’t attend the event

2 boards were used 22 Pins in total 51 Following This team posted clues about the

Flashmob which were fun Pictures of anything Kingston Frontenac

related were posted

Used as a guide for all other channels The account had 15 followers Good pictures and information were

used

Doodley

Doodley was a great social medium for our type of flash mob

The account was shared by the Facebook Page

3 or 4 people made accounts Some doodles were shared Doodley had great potential but did not

take off because people did not know how to use it

CMOST

I think only 4 mediums were needed. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Foursquare would have been sufficient. All the other mediums could have been incorporated into these 4 mediums. For example, Instagram is an extra because people can just post pictures to Facebook or Twitter.

RecommendationsI believe that more time and organization were needed to make this Flash Mob a true success. We should have gone to the media (CKWS) post event to let them know about it and they could have possibly covered the event live. This would have been great publicity for SLC and the IMC program.

We also should have contacted the Kingston Frontenacs, so they could have participated in the event, which would have increased public participation during the flash mob. For example, we could have had a few Kingston Frontenacs players at the event to engage with downtown Kingston’s public.

In the end, the flash mob was a great out of classroom experience that taught me many things about social media platforms and event planning.
