Why?

Building a Sound Future represents the most significant development of St George’s Bristol since it

was first built in 1823. The project will transform the visitor experience and provide new multi-

purpose facilities with a bold new garden pavilion extension designed by award winning architects

Patel Taylor. Once work is completed in the Autumn of 2017 our new venue will be a fully accessible

concert hall to rival the world’s finest, truly fit for purpose to receive the many world class artists

who perform here, together with new facilities for our audiences and learning participants.

Our capital appeal has secured major funding pledges from both Arts Council England and the

Heritage Lottery Fund, together with grants from major UK Trusts and Foundations and the generous

support of many individuals. With £3.5M secured we are on track to raise the remaining £2M for

building works to commence in the spring of 2016.

Suzanne Rolt, CEO of St George’s Bristol said, ‘St George’s presents a plethora of different styles of

music from some amazing artists, this performance shows off the best of both worlds - where

classical and jazz collide! We’re sure local people will love it and are excited to have Swing Dance

Bristol involved at both the daytime and evening events….expect accessible, uplifting and joyful

performances!’

Thomas Gould from Aurora Orchestra and Man Overboard said, ‘I love playing at St George’s,

whether that be as a solo artist or in my capacity as Leader of Aurora Orchestra, the venue’s

Resident Orchestra. The acoustics of the hall are legendary, but it’s the warmth and attentiveness of

the audience that makes playing here so special. I am delighted to be returning again on 20 May

with my swing band, The Man Overboard Quintet, as we collaborate with Aurora for a prohibition-

inspired programme as classical meets jazz.’
