In the years after the war, couples who could not afford families during the Great Depression made up for lost time; the mood was now optimistic. During the war unemployment ended and the economy greatly expanded; afterwards the country experienced vigorous economic growth until the 1970s.

The Case Study House (CSH) program was initiated by Ar ts & Architecture magazine in 1945. The thir ty-six designs of the program featured low-cost, experimental modern prototypes during the years of America’s post-Wor ld War II building boom.
The CSH program had thought-out plans compared to a “cookie cutter” approach.
