January, 2020First United Methodist Church
Friends, Thank you for your love and generosity for my family and I, you have deeply touched our hearts, thank you!
At the beginning of each new year John Wesley would conduct a Covenant Service to lead self and others to rededicate themselves to Christ’s service. Here is his prayer of commitment:
“Lord, make me what you will. I put myself fully into your hands: put me to doing, put me to suffering, let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you, let me be full, let me be empty, let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and with a willing heart give it all to your pleasure and disposal.”
On Sunday January 5th I will begin leading worship at 11:00 AM at the Crown Point UMC in addition to the 9:00 AM service in Ticonderoga. We are looking into live streaming options for the 9:00 AM service in Ticonderoga to offer all of you more ways of staying in connection as a worshipping community growing as disciples of Jesus Christ.
We plan to continue to offer Bible Studies on Sundays in Ticonderoga.
Coming soon we will be scheduling a new Lay Servant class.
I will be taking a few days off to rest, recover, and enjoy time at the easel.
May the presence of Jesus continue to give shape and meaning to your life!
Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Pastor Scott Tyler

Now That’s A Bright Idea
Happy New Year! Your trustees will be planning projects for 2020 this month. Got any ideas? With the rear basement wall now waterproofed and insulated, we can remove the paneling from the back staircase and paint the block walls. Other ideas include major work on the parsonage, helping Betty put the Memorial Garden back together, and the finishing of our new entrance to Fellowship Hall.
Last year, in preparation for the repair and waterproofing, there were only emergency projects undertaken. We replaced the second of our two water heaters and discovered that the one we installed three years ago had a
problem and had to be replaced under warranty. So now we have two new water heaters and should not run out of hot water anytime soon.
Our switch to LED lighting in most fixtures in the building has resulted in a savings of about $80.00 to $100.00 per month in electricity. Finely, Donnie has new smoke detectors to put up around the building as time permits.
As always if you see something that needs attention, contact Donnie, Pastor Scott or myself and we’ll do our best to “get ‘r’ done” or at least put it on the list! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Bill Westervelt, Chair
Thank you! The staff at the First United Methodist Church would
like to thank the congregation for their generous Christmas gifts.
We all greatly enjoy working here and being part of the faith family. Your gifts of friendship last all year.
Happy New Year

Christmas Basket Delivery
A few pictures from our morning of packing shut-in-
packages and delivering them. It was a very
rewarding time.
I visited the nursing home and a number of residents
that live there, complete with my Santa Hat, and they
loved it. Our small group worked hard on this and
packed very nice packages. Thanks!
Happy Holidays to all! --Kathy Liddell

Thrift Shop NewsThe “holiday rush” was very evident at the Thrift Shop in December. Sales were excellent, and customers have been pleased by the many, many Christmas items we had this year! There will be sales beginning December 28th on Christmas items so we won’t have to pack them away for next year.
Remember, if you can spare a few hours in the New Year either on selling days - Wednesday and Saturday 9-2, or sorting days – Mondays and Thursdays 9-12; the Thrift Shop Committee would be most appreciative.
As we look back over the past year, we feel a great sense of satisfaction. The shop is thriving, and continues to support both the church and Clergy Association with monthly contributions. In addition, our customers continue to praise our shop, its contents, and our dedicated volunteers.
The Thrift Shop Committee thanks you for your continued support, and wishes you many blessings in the coming year.

The Sexton’s BroomHappy New Year!
I hope everyone has a joyous Christmas. We now start a new year, full of hope and promise (and for SOME of us, resolutions).
As you are aware, the renovations have started, the garden wall has been completed, and by the time we go to press, work should be started on the Fellowship Hall end.
My list of projects for the coming year is long, and will be stared once the addition is done. I would like to do a lot of stripping and waxing of floors, and some shampooing of carpets, among other things.
As always, if you see something that requires my attention, please let me know. I am easy to find.

Champlain Valley ChoraleThe Champlain Valley Chorale thanks you for your enthusiastic support and that we, the Chorale, will be on hiatus until we resume rehearsals the first part of February (haven’t decided yet which Tuesday at 7:00 in Fellowship Hall we will start) for our upcoming Spring concerts in early June. We always welcome new singers in all sections, and to please contact our president, Bob Ellington, at 518-2173 for further information.

ADDITION CONNECTION
FLASH!!!BACK HALF FINISHED!
In the spring, we will help Betty design and build a new garden. Several new ideas have been put forth and it will be an exciting time to watch our garden grow. I am pleased with the quality of work that I have seen so far. We should never have to worry about water getting into the basement again.
I was told that the workers planned to start on the front project Christmas week, but as I write this Christmas Eve, not a digger in sight. (maybe they’re on their sleigh somewhere) I have it second hand that they like to do this type of work in the winter since it doesn’t make as much of a mess. We’ll have to wait and see.
If you have any questions, please let Pastor Scott or myself know and we will try to answer or get the answer for you.
