Inside this issue: Pastor’s Corner

It is no secret that I adore Dr. Brené Brown. I recently stumbled upon her Soul Sunday conversation on The Anatomy of Trust. “Braving” is an acronym that Brené Brown created and explains in her talk.

B = Boundaries –respecting yours and having my own

R = Reliability, being both reliable and authentic (real)

A = Accountability –I own my mistake, apologize, and make amends

V = Vault: w hat I share w ith you, you w ill hold in confidence (and I do the same with you!); no gossiping; respect confidentiality

I = Integrity –choosing courage over comfort; choosing what’s right over what’s fun, easy or fast; practicing my values, not only just professing my values

N = Non-judgement & reciprocity, offering and asking for help. Not thinking less of myself for needing help, otherwise I’ll judge others for asking me for help

G = Generosity –believing the best in the other even when they disappoint me.

Our work as a community of faith, as a kingdom of God is impossible without trust. We build this through Braving. We build this by being present with one another in good times and bad times. We are in a covenant relationship, with each other and with God. We are not perfect people; we will stumble and fall. However, will we be generous with one another when we are disappointed? Will we hold one another accountable? Are we reliable? Do we ask for help and provide help? I desire to be a community of trust. I hope you will join me in rededicating our work to ‘BRAVING’!

Peace, Pastor Leah

Note of Thanks and AED Training From Jim Clark

First, I would like to thank everyone for the prayers, kind thoughts and cards sent my way as a result of my heart attack. I am doing well. Started my second cardio rehab and she says I am doing well and she really hasn't made me sweat yet but said she thinks on Friday she will put me through some paces. I have lost 10+ lbs already. My first goal is to get to 200 which would be 23 lbs and then I would like to see if I can get to 190-195 maintain weight. So thank you again for all your kind thoughts. As you know, the church purchased an AED (difibiluator) unit back in May. Part of the expense of the unit was to have people trained how to use it. The Red Cross will be providing this training on Saturday, October 7th from 8:30-11:45 in the basement of the church. We have slots open for 8-10 people and at this point we only have one person signed up. We are charged for all 10 slots regardless of if we fill or not. If you are interested please contact the office and sign up for a slot. If you have questions please feel free to call me at 315-374-4671 . The training will consist of using the unit which actually has a step through voice built into the machine. The other piece of the training will be basic CPR. Our goal is to have a full class. Thanks again!
