Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This covers yet another Final Fantasy game, this being where it all started...

Well, the customizable job system, anyways.

Final Fantasy III was originally released in Japan under the name of FinalFantasy III. Those who are looking at this and haven't played it may beconfused because the rest of the world also has a different Final Fantasy III.

THAT Final Fantasy III was remade in the mid-2000s as Final Fantasy VI Advance, which is what it was in Japan (minus the "Advance"). The true Final Fantasy IIIfinally came to the U.S. as a full DS remake - graphics and all. Truly a newgame versus what there was before.

As your new adventure begins, you'll begin by watching a young boy, Luneth, fall into a hole. He lands in an underground cave that, as per the abovetables, is filled with treasure ... and monsters! Being the beginning of thegame, these monsters are fairly weak. For once, these monsters ARE something tosneeze at - the Blue Wisp would probably break apart. :)

Anywho, you'll begin your quest with a quick fight versus some Goblins. You

should simply Attack them. They're nothing special.

Afterwards, go north and you'll reach two treasure chests. Open one for thePotion, and another for the Leather Shield. Equip the latter to raise yourDefense a bit. We don't need to be using Potions too early on.

Continue north and you'll take note of the rock. Hold L to take note of thesparkles surrounding it. Objects like this should be examined. Examine and someof the wall will fall away. Let's continue. Go along to find a chest with theLongsword inside.

O===========================================================================O| DUAL-WIELD OR SHIELD? || || A fair topic of debate in any game with strategy, such as this, is || whether you should opt to wield two weapons simultaneously or to have || one weapon and one shield. Dual-wielding allows you to do a much larger || amount of damage than before, because your Attack option will be, in || effect, used TWICE. However, this also lowers your Defense by not || letting you hold a shield. Holding a shield can be valuable in that it || can raise your Defense and you'll stay around longer. || || So, which should you do? I, personally, ALWAYS dual-wield weaponry when || possible. However, if it takes away another's weapons, I'll let them |

    | both wield one weapon and one shield. In short, dual-wield only when it || it convenient to the party as a whole. || |O===========================================================================O

If you're following my preferences, swap out your Leather Shield for yourLongsword and you'll pwn every enemy in this dungeon, save for a select one.Continue through to the next area.

Here, go east and snatch the Potion, then west and grab the Antarctic Wind. The Antarctic Wind is a useful item that casts Blizzara, a middle-level BlackMagic spell you won't be using for quite some time. It is quite powerful, sosave this for later.

Go north to another Potion chest, then go east to find anotehr chest. Open itfor another Antarctic Wind - as before, save it. Further east, you'll findsome water. Examine it and you'll fully restore your HP/MP. I suggest grindinghere for a while. I continued battling until my HP was low, then drunk somewater, and moved on. Not excessive, but it helps out later on.

Anyways, backtrack west to the intersection and go further west and you'll soonfind some stairs. Use them.

In the next area, go north and you'll find a shrine of some sort. Go north and, suddenly, an evil ... turtle ... will pop down from above to attack you!_____________________

    |=============================================================================|| Not much to say attack-wise. Just a basical physical dealing 8 ~ 10 points || of damage by this point in the game for a moderately-leveled Luneth. || || You can probably make it by using just Attack. If you get in low HP, you || will probably want to use a Potion. Alternatively, using an Antarctic Wind || can deal a fairly large amount of damage, but I'd prefer to save them for || a later boss. ||_____________________________________________________________________________|

After the boss, you'll watch a scene with the Wind Crystal before exiting tothe overworld.

After the scenes, you'll arrive on the overworld map. Here, save.

Now, there are two things you can do. Firstly, you can go north back into theAltar Cave for some new items, which I wholesomely recommend. Or you can gosouth into Ur to advance the story.

Go along the path in here for a while and you'll reach a big area. Its mostprominent feature is the big hole Luneth fell through. How did he NOT spot it?Anywho, open the chests around the room for the Sleep spell, a Longsword,Bronze Bracers, and some Bronze Knuckles.

Fall down the hole if you wish and continue along back to the Wind Crystal'sshrine if you so wish; it makes for some nice levels. You can also justbacktrack through the cave you came through, but what's the fun in that?

Firstly, we'll begin by advancing the story some. Go into the house one theleft with the blue roof. There, you'll find two wellsprings of water. One willfully restore your HP and MP; the other revives your party members from KO. Gofurther into the building. You can speak with Luneth's foster mother on theleft, then speak with Elder Topapa nearby.

Now, let's leave the outside. Speak with the old man nearby and you'll be ableto use a Potion on him to receive a Phoenix Down, which is better. Go east to

the Inn, and go east into the woods. Near the woman is a well. Go inside tofind three Potions in three chests. Sweet.

Remember the Inn we passed? Go inside. You'll find an Item Shop, a free bed tosleep in to heal HP/MP/status (only here is it free), and there's a pub in theback. There, you'll be able to watch someone dance and play the piano.

Note this, though. There is no need at all to do either. The dancing girls issomething I don't think has ever affected any Final Fantasy. The piano playingdid affect Final Fantasy V by letting you learn new abilities, but not in thisgame. Sorry to disappoint ya. Funny to watch you get booed off, though!

Leave the Inn and go northeast and into the forest. There, you'll watch three

kids bullying another, apparently older kid. This is Arc, another LightWarrior. He's your rather timid, shy person, but also a very knowledgeable oneand Luneth's best friend. And also an orphan. Once Luneth comes up, the kidsflee, followed by Arc, going to prove himself.

Well, after the scene, go back to that spot and go to the top of the flowerpatch near the watch. Hold L until something shiny pops up and examine therefor a Potion.

Now go north of the weapon shop (northwest of this forest path, north of the

Inn) and go along the path. You'll fight some weakling Goblins on the way, soyou know. At the end of the path, look around the water for a Potion, then gointo the storehouse.

Inside, you'll want to speak to the old man about zooming in the camera to seevarious sparkles that can show you hidden things, which can be examined forvarious effects. Examine the pots to the west to find two Antidotes, thenexamine the camera the man pointed out.

Go along to the secret area you now uncovered and you'll find some stuff there:a Dagger, some Eye Drops, a Cure spell, a Phoenix Down, and a Longsword. That'sabout it for now; return to the main town.

Go into the southwestern, blue-roofed building to heal up. You can go shoppingif you want. What improves your stats is pretty obvious when you look, so takewhat you will. Then leave town.

Once you enter town, you'll meet up with Arc and he'll beg to join you. Youmight as well let him.

Let's go to the blue-roofed house in town. Use the wellspring within to heal, then leave. Go west of this house and through the trees to find a small puddle

of water. On the other side, near the trees, you'll be able to get a Staff anda Mythril Helm. That's sad; the people of this town need a Mythril Ring to benon-ghosts. We have the Mythril, just not the blacksmith.

*shrugs* Go east and through the hidden path in the trees to find anoteherchest containing Zeus's Wrath contained within a ... whatever it is. Return tothe main bit of town now.

and speak with one of the ghosts to find Cid. He'll ask you to help out here, and lends you the airship since he's immaterial. Literally.

So, yeah, we get an airship pretty early on. Though it can't fly too high, itseems. Leave town and we'll go find it.

Oh, and for the curious, DO NOT GO INTO THAT CAVE AT THE NORTH END OFTOWN. You will be easily defeated in one hit by the enemies within, and runningnever solves your problems, as they say. We'll come back there eventually, though.

After getting Cid's permission to use his airship, go west and into the desert. You'll find the airship, and then find the blacksmith's foster daughter,Refia. She wasn't affected by the Djinn's curse on Kazus because she had runaway because of her intense training for smithing. Oh well, at least we haveanother ally.

Let's fly! Go west and into Castle Sasune after landing near it.

As you arrive at Castle Sasune, you'll meet up with Ingus. After a few scenes, you'll be in the castle courtyard. Go north and into the main building.

Here, to the west are some beds that you can freely use to take a nap and healsome HP/MP, though you shouldn't be using MP at this point anyways. Go northinto the next area.

Here, on the west side of the room, go west through the cracked wall and thennorth to find a Phoenix Down. Then go through the southeastern wall and you'llfind two entrances. Use the southeastern one to reach two 1,000 Gil chests, then go back up; there's nothing else down there. Use the other entrancenearby.

Here, go along the path to find two chests, these containing a Leather Shieldand the Blizzard Spell. Go northwest and through the wall, then go north andeast to find a chest containing the Bronze Knuckles.

Now, go back to the second floor room where you first began mysteriously goingthrough walls, then upstairs through the center of the room twice to watch ascene. You'll be sent along to the Sealed Cave to find Sarah, sent after the

Djinn along with a Mythril Ring we need. Ingus, ever the chivalrous knight, comes along.

Well, since a ghost can't do a thing about it, let's loot this castle whilethe king's back is turned! (Well, loot some *more*.) >:)

From the castle courtyard, go northwest and into the West Tower. Go up thestairs for a while here. On the way, you'll find a chest with some HolyArrow and Wooden Arrow items. Continue up to the top and you'll find a chest.Open it to find a Wightslayer ... and a battle!

The Griffon actually isn't exceptionally difficult, so I'm not putting a bossbox here. Switching to the Wightslayer in the midst of the battle will help

    out a fair deal.

Go back downstairs after the battle and head into the eastern tower. There, goup along a monsterless path. You'll find Wooden Arrow and Holy Arrow chests onthe third floor. Continue up to the top and open the chests for a Bow, anotherWooden Arrow, and a Potion. Take a free nap in the bed.

Finish up any other business you have here, then leave.

First and foremost, you'll want to have two things equipped: the Wightslayeryou got from Castle Sasune, and the Bow with some Holy Arrows. Both of theseabuse weaknesses of the enemies in this dungeon; all of these enemies are weakto Light/Holy-elemental damage. If you lack these for a character, simply gowith Longswords. Note that Bow-users should be in the back row, since Bows arelong-range and do the same damage, but the user will take half-damage.

I will also note that Cure spells will damage these undead enemies as well, butI highly recommend against this unless you are in dire need of defeating the

enemies. MP is limited at your likely levels.

    Anywho, let's go inside.

Go south along the path and you'll soon reach an intersection. Go south to finda Potion, then go back north to the intersection and east along the narrowpath. In the next room, go north and you'll find a chest containing the Curespell. Go back to the previous room and go along the path to the southeastuntil you reach the next area.

In this area, go southwest and you'll find a chest with 500 Gil. Then go tothe northeast corner and zoom in with the camera to find a sparkly -- examineit to lower the wall. You'll meet up with Princess Sarah and she'll shortly

join your party. She'll be a support member. You cannot control her in abattle, but she may come into the fight to help by casting Aero or Cure! Youcan also speak with her in the field by pressing Y.

Anywho, continue along the path southeast to the next area.

Here, go along the path southward to a fork. Continue south into a larger room, then exit it to the south and east to find a chest with another usefulAntarctic Wind! Go back up to the fork you used earlier and head north. Goalong the path until you reach a large room south of the west end of another.

Much like the previous two Final Fantasies, the world'secology will go into chaos if the world's Crystals' light and the forces ofevil are not restored and banished, respectively.

So the Wind Crystal gives you the ability to switch jobs. Of the jobs you havejust obtained, you'll be allowed to be a Warrior, Thief, Monk, Black Mage,White Mage, or Red Mage.

Personally, I choose a Warrior, a Thief, and two Red Mages. Red Mages are justBlack-White Mage mixtures. Good enough for early gameplay. Do what you will.

Also note you can now do the Wi-Fi-based sidequest concerning the OnionKnight. See the proper section for details. Backtrack to the overworld so wecan continue with the main storyline.

Thieves will stickwith Mythril Daggers, Black Mages with the Mythril Rod(s), and White Mages andMonks stay empty-handed for now.

Note that I would recommend holding out on two of the Mythril Swordpurchases. We'll soon head into the Mythril Mines of Kazus, which have twoMythril Swords at the end. Whatever would be replaced should still be okay to

make it through the short dungeon.

Armor-wise, Mythril Armor for your Warriors, Red Mages, and Thieves. A bitcosty, but a definite good idea. Mythril Shields are okay if you decide not todual-wield. Mythril Helms also go for the aforementioned three. Mythril Glovesare nice on Warriors, Monks, and Thieves. Mythril Bracers go for your threeMages.

Now that you've spent a fairly large amount of money, we'll spend a bit more. You'll want spells. Fire and Blizzard are the only two worth worrying about.YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MAKE A CHARACTER ALWAYS PHYSICAL. Every character will bepretty much forced into spellcasting at some point, so you had best prepare forit now. Get one Blizzard and Fire spell for all who lack one at the moment.Sleep isn't worth it all too much in my book, but do as you will.

(A note on my above big note. You can only teach spells to people of a certainjob class: in this case, Black or Red Mage. Note that I do NOT recommendchanging jobs twice just to teach someone something then go back. If they cannot learn it now, just let them learn it when it is needed and save it untilthen.)

After this, you can pretty much go safely into the Mythril Mines to the north ofKazus I told you to avoid earlier.

Where is said trove? Go into the northwestern house where Cid lives. Speak withhim, then use the Elixir on Mrs. Cid to cure her. Afterwards, zoom in andexamine the sparkly lamp to open a secret passage.

In this secret area, you'll find a nice few items: a Potion, three PhoenixDowns, a Gold Needle, two Gnomish Breads, one Blind spell, the Great Bow,

and an Iron Arrow. Go east through the southeastern corner to find two morechests, each containing 2,000 Gil!

Afterwards, we will need to back to the house connected to the Inn. Speak withthe bedridden girl, Salina, there. Apparently, her boyfriend, Desch, ran off toa mountain.

    A mountain.

    A mountain infested with enemies.

A mountain that nests a dragon.

    Oh crap.

Well, let's do some shopping before we set out to save another person.

Weapon-wise, it's a bit tough to say. Anyone dual-wielding two Mythril Swordsought to stay that way. Warriors, Red Mages, and Black Mages not doing thatwill want a Great Bow and a hefty supply (about 30) of Iron Arrows.

And magic? Get a Cure and Thunder spell for everyone, which I think makesthree and four, respectively. Poison may not be a bad idea either - it willcause damage and may cause the status, not just the latter. And Blind? Meh. Idon't really think any boss strategy will rely on it, and you've alreadygotten one, so I don't think it is worth it.

And item shopping should consist of, minimum, five Gold Needles. I doubt youwill use more than that. Enemies in the next area will be able to petrify youpretty well, and that's not good to let just hang around.

Once you're ready, leave town and go southeast to the nearby mountain.

Well, kinda. You can't *easily* kill this boss - after all, it's a freakingdragon. Last I checked, you weren't some chivalrous knight from a children'sstory, unless you're Ingus. :) But, seriously, just flee the fight.

Afterwards, there will be some more scenes. You'll jump off of the mountainand you'll end up receiving the Mini spell before the scenes end.

Back here on the world map, you'll be in a different area. You'll first want togo south and into the center of the small forest.

Here, you can get another Mini spell from the guy here. Also examine the nearbysprings: one heals your HP/MP, one heals your statuses (minus KO), and one will

heal the KO status. There's an additional reason why I brought you here.

First and foremost, you'll need someone to be at Level 8 or higher to learnMini as a White Mage; if you're not higher than that, shame on you, etc. Youwill need to have *someone* know Mini. Then cast it on your whole party inthe field, preferably, to make them Minimized, thereby letting them be able toenter Tozus.

But not so fast! When you are Minimized, your physical stats suck more than asupermassive black hole. You will want to have everyone be some type of Mage. Iwould either go for four Red Mages or three Black Mages with one White Mage.Take your pick. Put everyone in the back row as well, to lessen damage --again, refer to the second sentence of this paragraph.

Finally, I told you for some ingenious reason to buy and/or obtain four ofevery spell buyable for the most part. These mostly include Cure, Fire,Blizzard, Thunder, and Poison if you felt like it. EVERYONE NEEDS ONE OF EACHif they are a Red Mage. All Black Mages need the latter four, and White Magesonly really get Cure. That's why I prefer Red Mages - you have versatility! The one doing the highest damage with magic should use Aero, so swap around ifneeded.

Once you have Minimized everyone, and then have changed their jobs to ones ofmagic, and THEN put everyone in the back row, examine the HP/MP healingspring to give them their full MP to be able to cast spells in battle.

Finally, Desch has joined your party as a guest and will for a fair while, being an amnesiac and all. He will be very helpful: he can attack an enemyphysically, or he can blast all enemies with Thundara, both usually resultingin kills.

Okay, once you have read and executed the directions in the above paragraphs,go into the southern large forest. Go further south to the forest-mountainborder. Run north along, but not really against, the western mountains and youshould reach Tozus.

First, shopping. The Gnomish Bread really only shows you the world map, whichisn't entirely worth 200 Gil. You might want to stock up on some Potions. Andmagic? As before, you'll want everyone to have Fire, Blizzard, and Thunderminimum for offense. Poison and Aero are also good ideas. Remember, Cure andAero are White Magic, so it gives your White Mage a chance to do damage ratherthan sit around every turn.

After you're done, stay at the Inn to heal any MP you may have used. Then headinto the northwestern house. Zoom in with the camera and you'll be able to findfour sparkles showing off Fira and Cura spells and the Mythril Bracers and theFire Staff. Nice. Put Fira AND Cura on the person with the highest magic-baseddamage. The Fire Staff and Mythril Bracers won't affect anyone Minimized fornow, so let that wait for a bit.

Speak with the doctor and he'll ask for an Antidote. Buy one if needed, thenhand it to him to open up a secret pathway. Use it and you'll find two chestspast some stairs; open each one for a Phoenix Down. Continue into the dungeon.

Not a lot to say about the tunnel. It's exceeding linear, and just an excusefor the monster bestiary. Neither enemy has any weaknesses, so you know.

After you leave the tunnel, go north into the Vikings' Cove.

NOTE: While you may be beyond the point of needing to be Minimized, don'tremove it yet. You'll be needing it shortly anyways, and you couldalways use a few more levels for magic jobs.

Simply go along the linear path for a bit. Eventually, you'll exit the hall tofind a few vikings nearby in this small room. Go southeast through that cornerto find a chest with the Spark Dagger. Since you're Mini'ed, it doesn't meanmuch, but it's a pretty good weapon.

Go north to find two doors. The one on the right leads to an Inn. Use it and

the shops. As in Tozus, make sure everyone has Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, andPoison. Aero went blowing away, sadly, and was replaced with Mini. Not a hugerecommendation, but do as you will. Go through the left doorway outsidew whenyou're done.

Here, go left to a "dead end", but then go south through the wall! You'll findtwo chests: one with 3,000 Gil and the other with a Viking Axe! You'll alsofind a wellspring that revives KO'ed allies. Eh.

Go back to where you went west and go east. Literally hug the southern wall (gotowards it after tapping the D-Pad right) and go south until you seem to nolonger move. Then go west as far as possible, then south. You'll find threechests containing Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara spells!! I'd probably recommendsplitting these among the party so everyone has one "-ra" spell (two will haveFira).

Backtrack back to the hallway with the Moogle. Go east and south. Speak withthe viking here. He'll let you have his ship if you can somehow quell theNepto Dragon outside. So let's go north and out! We need a ship for somedeep-sea fishing or something.

Oh right. Light Warrior quest. Crap.

Once you enter the area, go north and you'll need to examine the dragon statue, likely of the Nepto Dragon. Apparently, it is missing a jeweled eye. Hm. Younow need to enter it.

Like with the town of Tozus, you'll need to be Minimized for the mission. Asusual, I would prefer that you use four back-row Red Mages or just four of anyMage because becoming Minimized greatly reduces your physical stats. Since youhave to use magic, I will note that the Poison Bat will be weak to Aero, butthat's it, I think.

So, inside, go along the linear path to a room that has two holes in it. Godown the western hole to find two chests, which contain Shell Armor and aShell Helm, which are better than Mythril Armor. Go back to the previous area

    and down the other hole.

In here, go along the path to find a Serpent Sword in a northern alcove, thengo south and east from there to find another hole. Use it and continue east andnorth in the next area to find a Giant Rat.
