Business Benefits in brief...

CADMATIC has the most modern and advanced user interface on the market today. The user interface combines the familiar Microsoft Office look and feel, with the logical thinking of 3D designers, which results in software that is very easy to use and that has the shortest learning curve of comparable systems.

CADMATIC offers a comprehensive set of tools and functionalities for the preliminary definition and arrangement of the ship’s structure and systems. Advanced 3D modelling features allow easy and flexible setting up of the entire hull structure. A versatile function to import surface based hull shape data speeds up the preliminary design process. Due to intelligent built-in structural topology modifications to the structural design can be made with ease. The complete and consistent 3D basic structural model forms the basis for class approval and further refinement in detail design. This means that drawings extracted from the model remain dynamically linked during the whole design process.

CADMATIC’s interactive and easy-to-use 3D environment speeds up the creation of arrangements and results in more accurate and clash free designs. Layout drawings and material lists are generated directly from the 3D model and updates drawings and documents automatically include the latest design changes.

In CADMATIC functional design templates allow storage of model objects or object sets that can be reused at a later stage. This makes full use of previously completed work and saves a lot of time in the early design phases.

P&I Diagram design is integrated with the 3D model to ensure consistency between diagrams, the 3D model and pipe production. Diagrams can be easily created according to standards, specifications and rules resulting in preliminary material estimates. Classification drawings are also effortlessly generated from CADMATIC and do not require 3rd party drafting software. The link between the model and the drawings are kept synchronised so the drawings can be created in parallel with the modelling.

CADMATIC has a powerful interface to FEM analysis software which automatically creates an optimised and simplified FEM model of the CADMATIC 3D structural model. The interface can be used at any stage of the design process and for any selected part of the 3D structural model.

The same basic design model is used for detailed modelling during the detail design phase, which avoids a lot of rework. Because CADMATIC’s detailed design functionalities use the same 3D modelling features, all structural topology, pipe specifications, component and logistic data are preserved for further refinement towards production information. Highly accurate manufacturing information is created by adding production specific details to the model.

The General Arrangement drawings can easily be created by extracting the views from the 3D model. With the use of the CADMATIC eBrowser the 3D General Arrangement is becoming a reality and a welcome add-on to the traditional process of early design. It simplifies communication and review work between design office, ship owner and shipyard and gives a realistic understanding of the design.

Basic Design in brief...

Speeds up your structural detail and production design

Hull structural design with CADMATIC is easy, accurate and faster than comparable systems. Thanks to the software’s built-in and intelligent structural topology ship structures can be modelled easily and even more importantly, changes can be executed quickly. The structural topology gives the designer the maximum benefit and flexibility throughout the whole design process. Changes to the hull shape are reflected automatically in changes to the hull structure, speeding up design changes significantly.

The user can split the basic design model into smaller blocks and refine the 3D model in detail or begin the 3D design from scratch. CADMATIC is capable of importing surface-based hull shape data from various design programs.

Shipbuilding materials and standards such as various profile types, cut outs, holes, notches, brackets, etc. are included and used topologically in the design. Profile end types and bevels can be determined automatically according to user-definable rules that prevent in-consistencies in your design.

CADMATIC’s advanced 3D hull library mechanism stores, manages and re-uses (parts of) 3D structural models preserving model topology and properties. It is possible to re-use any kind of stored 3D structure such as a pump foundation, staircase or even a complete model of a midship and reposition it automatically according to the new environment.

The built in 3D Hull Viewer is a helpful tool that assists the designer to analyze and check the 3D model for technical inconsistencies. The extremely easy to use viewer gives a detailed yet clear view of the model at a single glance.

Pipe penetrations in hull structures are taken care of by the hole manager which ensures that pipe penetrations are checked and approved by the hull designer before cutting, thereby preventing design errors.

The built-in report generator creates reports and lists from the 3D structural model such as part lists, material lists, weight, weld and bevel reports in Microsoft formats or presented on drawings.

Plate part geometries and profile production details are generated automatically from the 3D model and are immediately ready for nesting and cutting (including details such as markings, bevels, cut-outs and profile end types).

The built in work breakdown manager offers several automatic part and panel numbering methods to manage the assembly strategy of parts, panels and assemblies that fit the working methods at the building site. In addition to the semi-automatic creation of various structural drawings the system is capable of automatically creating various 2D and 3D assembly sketches to support steel workers at the workshops.

All automatically generated documents, drawings and production information are continuously linked with the 3D model and therefore always consistent with the actual status of the 3D model. Changes in the model are automatically reflected in the drawings and documents to prevent expensive errors during production. CADMATIC has an elaborate set of 2D drafting functions to finalise drawings without the need for separate 2D drafting programs.

Structural Design in brief...

Machinery layout, piping and outfitting design in CADMATIC is simple with database-driven user friendly features. Specification-driven routing ensures that the correct components, materials and sizes are automatically selected.

The intelligent integration between P&ID’s and the 3D model ensures that changes made in the model are updated in the P&I diagrams. When components are defined in P&ID’s they are automatically selected in modelling. The system automatically produces annotated isometric pipeline and/or spool piece drawings from the 3D model.

Online collision control saves time and avoids inconsistencies in design. The user is alerted to any collisions while investigating case-based collisions. Several automatic routing methods and other navigational commands are available to create the optimal routing with ease. All necessary manufacturing information can be presented on drawings ready for workshop use. All kinds of material takeoffs can be generated directly from the model and presented in Microsoft or html formats.

CADMATIC’s library system is easy to use and has an intuitive graphics user interface. The designer can navigate quickly through the library and browse piping components and equipment. All objects in the library are also visualized in 3D. The library system supports DIN, ANSI and JIS standards.

In CADMATIC HVAC, Ducting and Cable trays are routed in the same way as pipes. Modelling of primary and secondary piping-, ducting- and cable tray supports is very easy and fast. Exact production drawings of supports are created automatically.

CADMATIC efficiently produces all the required pipe isometric and spool drawings and material take-offs from the 3D model. Large drawings can be split into several sheets if needed. Pipe production information can be sent to production workshops in electronic format to control CNC pipe cutting and bending machines.

All automatically generated documents, drawings and production information are linked with the 3D model. Changes in the model are automatically reflected in the drawings and documents to prevent expensive errors during production.

CADMATIC includes a powerful tool for electrical design that creates a dynamic node point network automatically based on cable trays. It includes possible air jumps between trays.

The user can import cables from a predefined Excel list or create it manually. Thereafter cables are automatically routed using the shortest way and by taking the cable type, tray fill rate, air jumps and other user-defined settings into account.

Electrical installation information including precut cable length and layout info can be obtained in the shortest time possible. It produces typical installation information such as layout drawings with node point indications, hull structure background, equipment and blocks or compartments crossed.

Piping&Outfitting in brief...

CADMATIC’s accurate production information reduces costs and shortens production times while minimising waste material and scrap metal. In addition to drawings and part lists the software outputs detailed and ready-to-use digital production information for numerically controlled workshop devices such as cutting, bending and welding machines.

This information can be defined and extracted from the 3D model at the latest possible stage to include all the required modifications. The high quality engineering information enables a high degree of prefabrication and pre-outfitting of blocks.

CADMATIC production information output can be customized to suit shipyards’ building methods. Significant efficiency gains are achieved by aligning CADMATIC’s production documentation to the build strategy of yards.

CADMATIC is capable of determining the complete structural work breakdown of a block by automatically assigning numbers to related assemblies, subassemblies, panels and parts. Once the work breakdown structure is determined, 2D and 3D production drawings or sketches are automatically generated according to the build strategy.

The dynamic plate nesting user interface and automation features enables fast programming for all cutting machines. It offers fully automatic nesting and cutter path creation, including (variable) bevel cutting for accurate and efficient cutting.

Curved shell plates are mathematically calculated and take elongation into account. The geometry of the bending templates is generated automatically and can be nested in CADMATIC and then cut with a milling machine. Pin jigs tables or drawings are calculated from the same 3D model.

For piping and outfitting CADMATIC outputs manufacturing information such as cutting lists, surface treatment, welds, total weight and centre of gravity and combines automatically created isometric and spool drawings to logical work packages for pipe shop use. Pipe bending data is calculated directly from the 3D model and available for CNC pipe bending machines.

The direct link to numeric pipe production means that manual production data processing is no longer needed. It not only saves time and materials but also reduces production and pipe assembly errors.

The HVAC Spool module takes the efficiency and ease of air duct design to a completely new level. This has been achieved with the aid of specification-driven routing, as well as automatically generated HVAC Spools and Bills of Material (BOMs).

During routing predefined components are used, these can be manufactured components or standard preordered ones, including flanges, dampers etc. Then dimensioned prefabrication drawings are automatically created for each part of the air duct, similar to pipe isometrics drawing, for each phase of installation.

This significantly increases the efficiency and decreases the amount of errors in design.
