New forestry project in Columbia secures the livelihoods of the foresters, the wood supply for Faber-Castell and improves our

carbon footprint with CO2 certificates.

Faber-Castell is strengthening its pioneering role as a CO2-neutral group with a new socially

exemplary reforestation project in Columbia.

Faber-Castell is planting seedlings of certified wood on 1,500 hectares of former grazing land for pencil production. The revenue of the wood utilization will be shared with the land owning farmers. as well as promoting climate protection, the project offers farmers an alternative to growing drugs, securing their livelihoods and promoting internal stability in the region. The forestry project is one of the first in the Un programme “Clean Development Mechanism” – CDM, introduced as part of the Kyoto protocol. as of 2013 Faber-Castell – probably as the first private company worldwide – will be able to trade with CO

2 certificates from plantations.

More than 95% of the wood used around the world to produce pencils for the Faber-Castell group comes from FSCcertified plantations and

sustainable forestry.

Faber-Castell markers and felt-tip pens last longer. Their shafts and caps are made from polypropylene (pp) and
