Founded in 1761, Faber-Castell was the first company to turn the pencil into a

genuine quality product and the world’s first brand-name writing implement.

It laid down standards for the length, diameter, and hardness of pencils;

standards which apply to this day, not only in Germany but worldwide.

Fascinating products were created which continue to set an example of

simplicity and design.

Rediscovering products of a past age, and bringing them up-to-date

with timeless design and the use of modern technology, gave birth to the

“Graf von Faber-Castell” collection. It embodies the luxury of simplicity, a

harmonious combination of selected materials, aesthetic looks, and a high

degree of functionalism.

Ancient and Magical

The pen of this year features a combination of two contrasting materials: the

deep structure of ancient wetland oak wood, whose beauty has been naturally

wrought over thousands of years, together with gold, that lends a supernatural

sheen to the most beautiful works of art created by mankind. Layer upon layer of

24-carat gold leaf is applied to the oak pen barrel in an intricate and detailed

process. Embedded in resin, this reveals a unique pattern of reflections.

All metal fittings are 24-carat gold-plated. Each writing implement comes in an

exclusive deep black wooden case. A certificate attests to the 24-carat leaf-

gilding, as well as to the limited edition of 1500 fountain pens.

The 18-carat bicolour gold nib is available in line widthsM, F and B, each one “runs in” by hand. The cap endprotects the twist knob for the filling mechanism. Allmetal fillings are 24-carat gold-plated. The masterpiece iscrowned by a chessboard faceted citrine gemstone set inthe cap.

The Graf von Faber-Castell Collection is celebrating the 250th

Faber-Castell with a very special limited edition.

The Elemento barrel is made of cross-grained olive wood, constructed with an

innovative technique that enables the grain of the wood to be displayed in a

way previously unknown.

Like a masterpiece of marquetry, the cross-grained olive wood is fitted into the

barrel in six individual elements, which are varnished and hand polished several

times. Only in this way does the wood reveal its flamboyant and interesting

structure and its quite extraordinary colouring of reddish brown through to

honey gold or even salmon pink.

The Elemento writing instruments are individually numbered. On the fountain

pen the numbering is on the decorative ring, while on the roller-ball pen,

propelling pencil and ball-pen it is found on the thread section.

The fountain pens, roller-ball pens, propelling pencils and ball-pens in the Graf

von Faber-Castell collection are designed as matching sets and available in

several variants.

All four are available in reddish brown Pernambuco wood, grenadilla wood,

matt black ebony, or platinum-plated version. Pernambuco wood is normally

used for violin bows; both it and the very dark ebony are extremely hard and

durable, and correspondingly difficult to work. The natural variations in grain

and colouring mean that every writing implement made of them is unique.

The platinized fountain pen, roller-ball pen, propelling pencil and ball-pen are

available with a purely platinized surface or a combination of platinized and

Pernambuco wood, grenadilla wood or ebony. Platinum is even more valuable

than gold; it has a very hard-wearing surface that does not oxidize.

The Classic Anello series illustrates how our writing culture can be enriched by

some unusual nuances. What makes these writing implements so captivating

is the superior materials and the fascinating contrast between them. The

multiple segments, separated by fine platimum rings, give this series its name:

Anello is Italian for ring.

The barrel of the Anello models is made of ivory-coloured precious resin, matt

black wooden segments, gold-plated or bright metallic grey matt segments,

with fine platinum, gold-plated or titanium rings between the segments.

Perfection is sensed as soon as one picks up these pens or pencils: the

components are so precisely matched that the transitions are imperceptible to

the touch.

Lightness and Function

The Slim Line writing implements make ideal travelling companions, being

unusually sporty and easy to get on with. Thanks to a coating of the precious

metal palladium, the surface is very hardwearing and unreactive.

All Slim Line models are equipped with a spring clip for pockets. In case of the

roller-ball pen and fine liner, the cap can be placed on either end. Both are

refillable. The roller-ball pen has a precision point that glides smoothly over the

paper, while the fine liner is fitted with a cushioned refill for outstanding

comfort in use.

The other two members of the family are just as much a pleasure to write with.

The propelling pencil is equipped with a user-friendly lead, and under the end

cap is a fine white replaceable eraser.

Variety and Uniqueness

We use a very tough material for the barrels of these new coloured writing

implements. We engrave each one separately with a Guilloche pattern, using a

process that has previously been reserved for expensive jewellery or

accessories. After engraving, each individual barrel is hand finished during a

series of lacquering and polishing stages.

This craftsmanship produces much more than just an interesting texture. The

result is a quality writing implement that is also a unique work of art. No two

pens or pencils are identical; each is individually hand finished.

The propelling pencil uses break-resistant 0.7mm leads with a reservoir for

spare leads, and under the removable cap is a replaceable white eraser.

The ball-point pen, also with twist mechanism, is equipped with a long-

lasting refill in standard size such as is available internationally.
