Lenten Mission Hospitality The women of the St. Joseph CCW will once again be providing refreshments each night of the mission. Extra dishes are always welcome. Feel free to share an appe-tizer, dessert, fruit or vegetable dish. Refreshments will be served in one of the classrooms. The mission dates are April 6-8 at 7:00 p.m. Other mission news - The Sacrament of Penance will be offered each night of the mission. Child care will also be available each night.

Our Parish Mission Prayer Most Loving Father, We pray that our Parish mission may be: A time of strengthening of family life. A time of healing for those who are broken. A time of joy for

those who are sorrowing. A time of forgiveness for the sinner. A time of strength for the weary. A time of homecoming for those who have been away. A time of growth for our young people. A time of

St. Joseph Parish Lenten Mission

Mark Your Calendars! April 6, 7, 8 at 7:00 p.m.

You are invited to join the parish family as we continue in our Lenten journey with a parish mission. The theme is “Hope for The Journey”. John Dona-hue-Grossman will be the presenter. John is a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s and a graduate of St. Joseph school.

An important goal of a parish mission is to reach out to those who feel separated from the Church or unwelcome. The most successful approach to reaching out to Catholics who feel abandoned is a per-sonal invitation to attend a mission. We ask you to extend an invitation to a friend or family member who may be interested in reconnecting with the St. Joseph family or the Catholic faith. Offer to sit with them so they feel included and welcomed. This mission is also suited for teens and young adults so please bring yours.

Fray Juan María Huerta es originario de Guadalajara, Jalisco. Comenzó su Noviciado en Guadalupe, Zacatecas en 1981; estudiando Filosofía, Teología y ha llegado hasta la Universidad de Tijuana con Licenciatura en Derecho en el 2004. Actualmente es el Vica-rio Episcopal para la Vida Consagrada en la Arquidiócesis de Tijuana. El Padre Juan María estará compartiendo con nosotros la Misión Cuaresmal. Hablan-do sobre temas como, “Rescatando la Cuaresma” y “La Cuaresma nos Lleva a la Pascua”.

LENTEN REGULATIONS

1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all

the Fridays of Lent (excluding the Solemnity of St. Joseph per Canon 1251).

2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

4. To disregard completely the law of fast an absti-nence is seriously sinful.

5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of volun-tary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a per-formance of works of charity and mercy.

Días de Ayuno y Abstinencia

El Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo, son días de ayuno y abstinencia.

Todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia de carne. Pero el Episcopado Mexicano ha dispuesto que: “se puede suplir la abstinencia de carne, excepto la del Miércoles de Ceniza y Viernes Santo, por: A) la abstinencia de aquellos alimentos que para

cada uno significan especial agrado, sea por la materia o por el modo de preparación;

B) o por una especial obra de caridad; C) o por una especial obra de piedad; D) o por otro significativo sacrificio voluntario”.

Sujeto de la ley del ayuno y la abstinencia: - Abstinencia de carne: todos los que han cumpli-

do 14 años. EL hecho de tener 60 años o más, no exime de esta ley de abstinencia.

- Ayuno: todos los que han cumplido 18 años, hasta el comienzo de los 60.

Lo más importante al hacer este tipo de practicas es darle sentido verdadero: por una parte someter la vo-luntad para fortalecerla con virtudes como la tem-planza, la sobriedad y la humildad, y por otra, favo-recer el ejercicio de la caridad, pues todos los sacrifi-cios que se realizan deben apuntar a hacer un bien o un servicio al prójimo y a toda la Iglesia. Hacer sacri-ficios y penitencia por costumbre o porque todos lo hacen, no tiene sentido y no favorecen el crecimiento del hombre, que en conclusión es lo que se pretende.

El Programa DARE (con sus si-glas en Ingles: Educación sobre Resistencia del Abuso de Drogas) les da a los estudiantes las

herramientas necesarias para prevenir el involu-cramiento en las drogas, pandillas y violencia. Su compra realmente ayudara en la educación

de estos niños y apoya a nuestra comunidad.

Children’s Faith Formation program is taking registrations and re-registrations for the school year 2011 – 2012. Please remember that any sacramental preparation is a two year catechetical process. Please come to the office for the forms. Your child’s baptismal cer-tificate is absolutely necessary for registration. And 1/3 deposit is due at time of registration.

Upcoming events...Come join Holy Family on Saturday, April 9th for our annual Easter Dash. There will be games, crafts, food, and of course the Easter Bunny!
