VisionThe vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, is to make Punjab the hub of information technology and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) be the leading IT organization in promoting economic growth in IT and IT-enabled services e-Governance, IT education and infrastructure development including creation of software technology parks.

PITB will be the thought leader, IT incubator and an IT trend setter.

MissionPunjab Information Technology Board’s mission is to:

Use synergies of the IT industry, academic institutions, and thegovernment representatives on the PITB board to develop and implement consequential strategies, which will enable Punjab to achieve its immense IT potential.

Leverage global best practices and benchmarks to develop and implement a citizen-centric e-Governance framework through constructive engagement with the private sector. PITB will assist the Punjab Government in the creation of a reliable and robust infrastructure and creation of a proficient human resource pool.

The STP can attract foreign direct investment (FDI) of US $792 million (Rs. 47.5 billion) over the next five (5) years into Pakistan’s economy.

Average annual per seat revenue for a Call Center operation is approximately $36,000 (on two shift basis).

Table 1 below gives a projection for export revenues over the next five years for a Software Technology Park with a net capacity of0.5 million sq. ft. (10,000 seats on the basis of 1 Seat/50 sqft).

Summary of Achievements



Infrastructure – Phase 1

International Technology Parks Limited (ITPL) company, a not-for-profit organization has been formed.

Punjab Government has made the strategic decision to retain 100% equity in Phase 1.

IT export companies will be provided space and charged only operating costs, approx. Rs. 15 per sq. ft. ($0.25 / sq. ft.)

Consultancy has been awarded to an International firm

Detail Design will finish by June 2006

Ground breaking will be held in July 2006

Expected completion of the project is December 2007





Infrastructure – Phase 2

The Punjab Government has earmarked 50 acres for the Phase-2

Master planning and core facilities will be provided by the Government of the Punjab

Public-Private Partnership – The Punjab Government will provide land as equity and the private investors can construct the building





Human Resource Development

The Punjab Government has trained approx. 1,000 professionals inthe public and private sector in the last 4 months.

From 1 PMP to 42 PMPs. End of the year target is 100 PMPs

Approx. 100 Senior Government Executives (BPS 19 and BPS 20) have been trained on Project Management

International trainers from the US, Europe and Australia have been brought in to conduct:

Executive Training on Project Management

Call Center and BPO training

PITB conducted BPO and Call Center training with one of the largest Australian retail chain stores.

They have hired all BPO/Call Center trainees who graduated from the first batch.




Marketing

PITB has arranged numerous foreign delegation visits from the U.S., Australia, Middle East and Europe

PITB has been facilitating foreign investors in terms of office space, human resource development and company registration

Have started the work on the creation of collateral for “Export Pakistan” in collaboration with the IT industry
