Program

The traditional custodians of the catchment area are the

Widjabul people. The Widjabul have lived and cared for the

catchment area for thousands of years.

With care of our environment and sustainability being a

priority at Barkers Vale Public School, Mr Pett in collaboration

with staff has been writing a Sustainability Policy for our

school. We are currently putting the final touches on the

policy before offering students and parents an opportunity to

view the draft version of the policy, comment and make

suggestions or offer expert support and guidance for the

implementation of the policy.

Danielle Haywood

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a very settled and productive return to school, with students actively

engaged in a range of learning activities and opportunities. This week we are excited to

have the Rous County Council Catchment Trailor come to our school to share a

wonderful learning experience with our students.

Council’s catchment trailer is an interactive model of where we live, work and play. The

scaled-down model represents the Richmond and Brunswick catchment with a flowing

river, a water supply dam, a town, farms and beaches. It is a hands-on education tool

that demonstrates how agricultural, urban and industrial activities impact water quality.

It illustrates how everything in the environment is interconnected – people, land, other

animals, plants – and how together we can support a healthy, living catchment.

FEAST Program

Students learning about the process of growing their own food and taking it to the plate. In this lesson students picked carrots, beetroot and cabbage from our school garden, then learned how to cut and grate them to make a healthy sauerkraut. Another valuable lesson in this process was learning that when you make a mess in the kitchen, you need to clean it up. We are very excited about offering our students the FEAST program to inspire healthy eating while teaching them essential life skills

INTERSPEAK On Thursday last week we were informed that the Rivers Public

Speaking Competition had been cancelled. After consulting with the

Principals of the COLOURSS schools we agreed that it was still important for students to have a

chance to present their speeches to an audience. So on Tuesday 2

November four students from each of the COLOURSS schools and two

students from Stage 2 and two students from Stage 3, chosen from

our Gabul class will present their speeches via ZOOM to students

and staff. We will not be judging the speeches but will be giving

feedback to each student to support them in developing their speech

writing and presenting skills.

COVID UPDATE

Level 3 restrictions are still in place and the following NSW Health and Department of Education guidelines are being followed at our school:

• Staff will be required to wear masks indoors and outdoors while on school grounds.

• We will reduce overall mingling of our different student years which means no school assemblies or sport (outside of existing PDHPE classes), excursions or field trips.

• Only essential visitors will be allowed on site and will be required to check-in and wear masks at all times.

• Canteens are open with appropriate hygiene measures in place.

• Parents and carers will need to remain outside of school grounds and follow physical distancing and avoid gathering for drop-offs and pick-ups.

• There will be enhanced daily cleaning of the school and wherever possible we will ensure classrooms will be well-ventilated with open windows.

I am Responsible – Home Time: I line up and wait

respectfully in the correct place. I listen to

teachers, bus monitors and the bus driver. I walk

in a timely manner, respecting others, to where I

need to be.
