DATES TO REMEMBER

PRINCIPAL

Stars of the Week – 1/2Y

This week, I had the pleasure of seeing some of the fantastic writing being done by 1/2Y. I would like to welcome Miss Young to Ourimbah PS and thank her for the settled and caring start to the new school year –

we are blessed to have such a dedicated and supportive beginning teacher on staff. Well done to the following students who were selected to read their stories to me – Charlee D, Madden H, Sian C, River C and Paige H. All of these students wrote a story about their adventures on a magic beach. I was also visited by Jaykobie D-J who showed-off 2 pieces of artwork – great job guys!

Foyer Display – 1/2N Take a look at this fantastic artwork on display in the front foyer! 1/2N have started the year off with a ‘bang’, learning all about each other and their families. Congratulations to these students who shared their amazing artwork with me – Cain B, Hudson B, Tommy V, Indie D, Capri F and Mia A.

School Bell Times / Supervision Hours A reminder to all families that our school day commences at 8:50 am and concludes at 2:50 pm each day. As teacher supervision does not commence until 8:25 am in the morning, NO STUDENTS should be arriving before this time as a matter of student safety and wellbeing. If you are a working parent and need to drop-off your child before this time, please enrol your child with the Before and After School Care facility (TASK) that operates from the multi-purpose building – contact number 1300 827 500. Any students who may have missed their bus, or have not been picked up by 3:00 pm in the afternoon, will be escorted to the front office until arrangements are made for the students to be picked up by a parent or guardian. We appreciate your ongoing co-operation with these supervision arrangements.

School Maintenance & Properties During the Christmas holiday period, some Planned Maintenance Works (PMW) were carried out around the school. We are all very thrilled at the new staff car park which was re-surfaced with line markings, making this a much safer and user-friendly space for staff and those families accessing the Before and After School Facilities that TASK provide. Other works carried out through the 2019-2020 PMW budget included - • A Block (1N and 1K) – painting external walls at

rear of building, ceilings and floors of deck area. • E Block (Heritage Building) – painting external

walls and window trims (south – west ends). • F Block (Room 2 above canteen) – painting

external doors and interior walls of Room 2. • G Block (hall) – repair and paint external ceiling

and paint stage ceiling. • J. K, L Blocks (upper school) – painting timber slats

surrounding base of classrooms. • P Block (TASK) – painting balustrade and post.

Newsletter Distribution Please note, in the interests of saving paper and reducing our environmental impact, a limited number of school newsletters will be printed each week. A digital copy of the newsletter is available each week to those families that have subscribed to the school app with a copy also being available on the school website. Should you require a hard copy of the newsletter these can be found in the front office. Thank you for your understanding, and ongoing cooperation.

Parent Information Sessions One of the best ways to find out what is happening in your child’s classroom in 2020 is to attend the Parent Information Sessions, which will be held this year on Monday 24 February (K-2) and Tuesday 25 February (3-6). A separate note detailing the times of the parent meetings was distributed earlier this week along with a Student Information Survey – please take the time to complete this short survey and return it to your child’s class teacher. The aim of the Parent Information Sessions is two-fold: 1. Welcoming new and returning families to Ourimbah

PS. 2. Providing parents/carers with the opportunity to

receive important school and class information from the school executive team as well as your child’s class teacher.

This year, our friends from TASK (The After School Klub) will join us for a quick update on the wonderful before and after-school programs they have on offer commencing at 4:30pm in the school library.

Sports officials – student elections Good luck to all of the Year 6 students who will be running for one of our student leadership positions as either House Captain or House Vice Captain during the week. I look forward to presenting our future leaders with their sports badges in the near future.

School Community Charter – Collaborative, Respectful, Communication NSW public schools work to create positive environments for students, staff and the entire school community that best support student learning. At Ourimbah PS we strive to ensure that every student is known, valued and cared for. The best education happens when parents and schools work together. The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive. The key messages outlined in the School Community Charter include – We treat each other with RESPECT We prioritise the wellbeing of all students and

staff. Unsafe behaviour is not acceptable in our

schools. We work together with the school.

A full copy of the charter has been included with this week’s newsletter.

School Voluntary Contributions Each year we ask families to support their child/children by donating $50.00 per child ($120 for a family of 3 or more children) to the school as a school voluntary contribution. This money is used to purchase much needed classroom resources and sports equipment for each class to utilise on a daily basis. Voluntary contributions can be paid by cash, cheques can be made out to Ourimbah PS, or Parent On Line payment (POP) accessible via the school website. Remember that our office will accept payment in instalments to assist families paying their contributions. Our office will continue to accept the annual school contributions throughout the year.

Health Care Plans Please remember to contact the front office (4362 1033) if your child has a health care plan or asthma plan - they need to be renewed every year in consultation with a doctor. We would appreciate your immediate attention to these plans, so that we can be sure we have up-to-date information if your child needs assistance with a health issue. All plans will need to be updated prior to the upcoming swimming carnival otherwise your child will be ineligible to attend. Greg Francis Principal CLASSY ARTICLE – 1/2Y MRS YOUNG The students of 1/2Y would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and existing students at Ourimbah Public School. As I am personally one of the new additions to Ourimbah Public School, I would also like to take this opportunity to say how excited and lucky I feel to be a fellow Magpie! 2020 is looking to be an exciting and busy year for 1/2Y. The students have settled in and are already demonstrating their eagerness to produce fantastic work. During the first few days of getting to know one another, these students have shown how incredibly caring, friendly and helpful they are towards their new class members and the Kindergarten students in the neighbouring classroom. One of the highlights that we have shared as a class already, and will no doubt continue to share for the year is our enjoyment we have for literature! This week our learning intention was to identify and use verbs correctly. Therefore, we collectively chose the beautiful book ‘Magic Beach’, by Alison Lester, which is filled with wonderful verbs to support this focus. After reading this book on multiple occasions, it is evident that students of 1/2Y have lots of fond connections with the beach. One student even joked that their dreams were now about a magic beach! Towards the end of the week, we had a Yarning Circle to share these connections, and this ignited the student's enthusiasm to write about their

experiences at their own “Magic Beach”. These excellent writing pieces are on display in our classroom under our ‘WOW Work - Literacy' for all to read and enjoy. I am really looking forward to learning more about all the students of 1/2Y, and I am excited for the great year ahead! Mrs Young

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS Reminder of change to money & permission note procedures Just a little reminder about the changes that were made in 2019 to enhance quality teaching time in the classroom. The decision was made that all money and permission notes now be processed through the office. Notes and money will NO LONGER go to the classroom, but will instead be placed by the students or

parents into a secure box in the office foyer. This is in line with the Departments money handling policies. All money and notes will need to be in a clearly marked sealed envelope with the student’s name, class and event on the front. The office will receipt the money, collate the notes and then pass on to the class teacher.
