EvaluationHow did you attract/address your audience?

Page 2: Evaluation question 5

Target audienceMy target audience for my music magazine is

rock and metal fans that range from ages around 14 to 25. i aimed at these ages because my research showed that these were the people who bought music magazines the most.

Front coverFor my masthead, i used a unique font

that would stand out to give the impression that the magazine was in your face and loud. For my cover lines i used a range of serif and sans serif fonts to appeal to different ages (sans serif to make it look modern and serif to give it an old fashioned feel). I used many different colours on my magazine to make the text stand out and also to make the magazine eye catching. For my central image, i used dark clothes as this is what rock and metal fans and members usually wear. I also covered part of my masthead with my central image as this indicates to my audiences that it is popular magazine and therefore do not need to see the whole masthead.

Contents pageThe three images on my contents page

all relate to the main article on the double page spread to show that it is an important and interesting feature in the magazine. The font at the top of the page is the same as the font i used for the masthead to give the impression the magazine is loud and in your face like most rock and metal songs. I wrote an editors paragraph in the bottom left as i saw this on existing successful magazines and thought it would appeal to my target audience. I kept the house style colour scheme as these colours appeal to rock and metal fans.

Double page spread I used one large image to take up

most of the left hand page as most successful existing magazines like Kerrang do this in most of their articles that take up a double page. I changed the colour scheme as most magazines only use their house style colour scheme on the front cover and contents as it can look boring and not appeal to the audience. I put a pull quote on the left hand page to show what the article is about before they read the title to the feature. I used guitars and drums in my images to show that the band is of a rock/metal genre to appeal to my target audience.
