How did you attract/address your audience?

Customer Survey/Peer Response

• After doing my customer survey, it enabled me to find out what people wanted within their magazine, what sex of artist they would prefer on the front of the magazine, the colour scheme, as well as things like how much they would pay for the magazine and weather them themselves were male of female. All of the information which I collected from this survey/questionnaire enabled me to design my product which met my target audience’s requirements. This enabled me to attract my target audience into the magazine, as they originally said the main factors in which they were looking for in a magazine, and as I met most of the criteria it enabled me to make a magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread which they were drawn to.

• With the peer response, my fellow peers and target audience looked at my made magazines. This enabled me to be able to have constructive criticism towards my magazine pages and then I could change them accordingly. This helped as it would appeal more to my target audience once I changed it to how they believed it looked better.

Attracting my audience

• I believe that I was successful in attracting my audience to my magazine. I made sure that I used bright, hip hop associated colours in which would appeal to my target audience reading the magazine. It is an original, individual magazine as it stands out from other magazine. Therefore it is again attracting my audience as they feel as though the magazine is to do with what they enjoy. The use of colours, I believe is more aesthetically pleasing rather than just black and white magazines with a little bit of colour.

• As well as the use of colours, as through my questionnaire the majority of people said that they would prefer to see a male artist on the front cover, as I did this, I was satisfying the needs of my target audience, therefore drawing them into it and making them want to buy the magazine.

Addressing my audience • I believe that I address my audience in two main ways. The first way is

the use of what they enjoy the most, through the use of colours, information, pictures, font etc. If someone likes Hip Hop music, and also like magazines, or are just interesting in reading a Hip Hop magazine, then straight away with my magazine I am attracting and addressing my audience. They are getting something in which they want and would purchase. This lets them get more up to date information on their favourite artists/bands where they may not find anywhere else. As well as this the use of the magazine means that everything is in one place and so its easy and simple to read.

• The second way I believe I am addressing my target audience is the use of mode of address. The use of language I have used, especially on my double page spread with words such as ‘sweet as’ and ‘no problemo’ are words which are associated with people who enjoy hip hop music and listen to it. By using mode of address it draws my target audience in as they feel involved in the magazine. There style of language us being used, therefore they are going to be more interested in the magazine, therefore they may buy more issues.

Front Cover Drafts V’s Final Version

Looking back at a couple of my front cover drafts, I do believe that my final version would attract my audience a lot more. This is because the colours are a lot darker, and therefore stand out more, as well as the colours more connoting Hip Hop music. The font that you can see on my previous front cover drafts, I do think connote Hip Hop, but they aren’t that easy to read. My new title does connote Hip Hop as it almost looks like graffiti and this is associated with my genre as well as it being easy to read.

Contents Drafts V’s Final VersionOld New

Looking at a few of my old drafts of my contents page (all drafts are on my blog) I believe that my final version of my contents page will much more appeal to my target audience. This is because it is more like a typical contents page, however it is also connoting Hip Hop through the use of colours, text and picture in which I have used. As well as this, as I had some feedback from my target audience on my original contents pages, as they gave me some constructive criticism, and I criticised my work myself, as I am a Hip Hop fan, and in the age bracket, I know this way my new contents page will attract more of my target audience.

Double Page Spread Drafts V’s Final VersionOl

dNew

Looking back at my previous double page spread, I really believe that my new and final version is a lot better. This is because it’s layout makes it look like a double page spread and an interview, as well as the image and title looking a lot better, along with other things. As I got my target audience to view my double page spread several times, and they suggested what they thought looked better when i posed several idea, this made me able to make my double page spread more appealing to my audience as I was getting some of my target audience to view my double page spread and tell me what they thought looked best.
