Q4.Who would be the audience for your media product?

Due to the fact that I have already chosen the genre of my magazine and made a decision on what age my target audience will be I constructed a questionnaire about little details that will attract my audience such as price, social grade and how often my magazine will be released. On the next slide are the results of my questionnaire. After getting back the results I decided to make a reader profile on things that I already knew about my audience, things I found out about my target audience and things that I predict about my audience. My reader profile is shown on my 4th and 5th slide.

Q4.Who would be the audience for your media product? This is a reader profile I made after looking at existing reader profiles. I decided to choose my overall genre ‘RNB’ as I enjoy listening to this genre of music and like the artists in this genre. I believed it was easy to do a magazine based on a genre I knew a lot about rather than something I knew nothing about . I have featured things relating to RNB music, such as signs, music notes, images of people dancing, MTV logo etc.. I selected certain image types whilst having a conversation with one of my peers about things she wanted to buy in relation to clothing, technology, food and music. I chose to ask about things relating to technology, clothing, popular restaurants and popular shops. I think if my magazine was professional the images I have placed on my reader profile are type of products that would feature in adverts in my magazine such as ‘Nike Blazers’ and ‘Beats’. Here are some adverts of these products to add to what I am saying.

Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product? The next section I made on my reader profile is the Key Stats which are demographics-factors relating to age, race, economic status and sex. I chose the stats I did after making a questionnaire. I tried to base my key stats on figures I knew a lot about for example I know more about what females want to see in a magazine than I do men. I already decided that my featured artist would be a female. I think when a female is on the front cover of a magazine it attracts her fans and in my opinion this relates to ‘fan girling’ females are more likely to buy anything and everything that has their favourite artist on than males are. However I planned to present my featured artist as a ‘bad girl’ and I think this will attract some male reader also. Being 17 I planned to choose 17/18/19 as my average age group. This is because some of the features relating to RNB aren’t suitable for a younger audience. Also a younger audience would be relying on their parents to buy them their things and parents may refuse to buy my type of magazine. Social class relating to social class are broken down into A, B, C1, C2, D and E. VIBE magazine which I have taken a lot of inspiration from have the price of their magazine set at £1.65. In my opinion this is aimed at an audience who don’t have the money to necessarily waste on a magazine. This is why I chose that my main targeted social class would be DE- This is because at the age of 17/18/19 my target audience would be students and not be in massively paid jobs or they could be even unemployed. The image below is an overview of what people class as social class DE.

Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

When choosing the audience for my media product I also looked at Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs Theory model. At the bottom are the basic things we need to survive for example food, water and sleep. If the human body doesn't have these factors it cannot function properly and will eventually fail. Out of all the stages 'Physcological Needs' are the most important, you need them to survive. When the average person as all the Physiological needs it needs safety in these four aspects- Personal, Financial, Health and Well-being and Safety net against accidents and illness. Without this safety people may suffer from stress. When the average human is stress free and feels safe within their environment they want something bigger and better... they have social needs. In childhood the need of safety can be overrode by the need to feel a sense of belonging in society. When a human feel socially accepted, they need to accept themselves and have self respect. Then they finally reach the top of the table the need of self actualisation which is the need to succeed and became what you wish to become. Basically the need to achieve higher.Unfortunately when the human reaches the highest need they always need to go on to higher things therefor they need to come back down to the bottom need and work their way back up it again. I believe the people who will buy my magazine will be in the Esteem and Social sections of Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs. This is because when you have food, shelter, security and friends you need to find you sense of self. Taking inspiration from a magazine such as mine could help my audience belong to a social group and earn self respect in knowing people are who they are... Also speaking from experience when people read magazines they usually admire the people who are in them and want to become them.
