Technical Evaluation
Research & Planning
YouTube» We used the internet to access
websites to view music videos such as YouTube so we could analyse similar videos and determine a basis for our ideas.
Google Images» We also used Google images search
to find album artworks from the same artist, and other images to give us ideas for our ancillary texts.
MTV2» Before we decided to
create a music video for Radiohead - Talk Show Host, we saw the music video for Radiohead - Street Spirit on the music channel MTV2. We enjoyed the music video and it is what inspired us to create one for Talk Show Host.
Camera» Part of our planning was to test
some of our ideas using cameras and then we edited them together into a little montage to display in our research & planning.
» Whilst conducting test shots we used the Canon XL 1-S camera and had a workshop to learn how to use it.
» We also used the lighting kit as part of our test shots.
Canon XL 1-S
Editing» We edited together our test shots
into one continuous film using Final Cut Express 4.0 for the Mac.
» The video was just put together and wasn’t in an order, it was made to show what ideas we discovered during our test shots.

Video Construction
Filming» We used the Canon XL 1-S camera when filming
in school locations such as the stage as it is the highest quality and has a wider variety of settings allowing us to focus images properly.
» When filming out of school, we used a small Sony Handycam, as we were not insured to take the Canon camera outside of school and didn’t want to risk damaging it.
» When filming on the school stage we used a lighting kit to attain our favoured effect. We adjusted the three lights we had to create a variety of effects that would work well in our music video.
Editing» Again, when editing we used Final Cut Express
4.0, a program we’re familiar with as we have been using it for the past year.
» Getting the editing in time with the music was difficult as clips didn’t snap into place next to each other so we had to zoom in and place clips directly on the next frame.
Evaluation
PowerPoint» To evaluate the media technologies we
have used in our project we used PowerPoint to create a slideshow.
» This slideshow has been uploaded to our blog via another use of technology; slideshare.com, a slideshow hosting service on the internet.
QuickTime and Filming» We converted our finished project to
QuickTime so we could play it to our peers on the big screen and receive audience feedback.
» We filmed our audience feedback directly after them viewing our video so they could make a live comment and the video was fresh in their head. To film this, we used the Canon XL 1-S again.
Podcast» We also created a podcast to
respond to the audience feedback we received on our videos.
» This was created using both the XL 1-S camera to film the responses,
and an mp3 audio recording device to record an audio file of us giving justification on our actions.
Blogging
This Is Blogspot» Throughout our project we used
blogspot.com to log our progress and provide links to our inspirations.
» Blogs are a very useful piece of technology for us as we are able to keep all our work in one location, as well as follow other groups’ progress, and comment on them as well; it is a completely live resource for us, and is one of the most useful things we used in our project.
That Is All!
