The role of veterinarian in modern society

In this work we speak about the modern society where the work of a veterinarian is very

important because they are responsible to diagnoses and treats animal diseases. Furthermore,

protects the human health from the zoonoses and also through the investigation can discover new

ways to improve the animal life.

Regarding with the history of the veterinary, Claude Bourgeland began the first veterinary

school in Lyon, France in 1761. To be a veterinary student in U.S we need to be studied four years in

a College, while in Chile we need to be studied for five years. On the one hand, the subjects that

required for entry to the University in U.S to study veterinary medicine are biology, physics,

business Management and humanities. On the other hand, in Chile are just mathematics and

sciences. In the same way, exist a veterinary curriculum that is similarly important in both countries

like pathology, epidemiology, medicine and surgery. If a student approves these courses, he can

obtain the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (V.M.D.)

Today the veterinarian can be unwrapping in various activities. For example, he is in charge of

inspecting all animals arriving at the slaughterhouse so as to avoid any transfer of diseases,

parasites, etc., to consumers of meat and also, study the effects that can have pesticides and

industrial pollutants on animals. In addition, in the environmental field are concerned about the

well-being of the wild animals, today there are few rehabilitation centers in case of be affected

these animals. One of the tasks that have taken great importance within the work of a veterinarianis education about the treatment which should be given to the animals, the concept of well-being

animal ceased to be alien to our society. As a consequence, has been created One health can be

defined as the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines that help protect people, animals and even

the environment. It is responsible for improving public health, medical education and clinical care so

we can save lives.

To conclude, through this essay we understand the origin of a veterinarian and its

important in modern society as well as care for the animals, ensures human health by preventing

the spread of disease through research that improve the health. In addition, we realized that thereare differences and similarities between veterinarian from U.S. and the veterinarian from Chile. As a

final point our role like veterinary doctors goes beyond the diagnostic; prevent and treat diseases in

the animal health, also plays an important role in what it is the social environment and the natural

environment. For what the Veterinarian fulfills the task of protecting and promoting the health of

community, by means of the control of zoonoses, control of the food, medicine and environmental

hygiene, which helps that the society has a great health, also it is relevant the environmental

education and the responsible possession of pets. Finally, the animals that are the principal axis,

since can survive and this way to contribute to the ecological balance.
