From the ES Administrationrom the ES AdministrationDear Elementary School Parent s,

    International Day

At ISM, we are fortunate to have a community of learners

from a rich and varied cultural context . Current ly within

the Elementary School we have at least 56 different

nationalities in our classrooms. Ascertaining the exact

number can be quit e a challenging exercise as many of our

students have more t han one nationalit y, or have parents

(and grandparents) who come from diff erent part s of t heworld.

One of our f ive t ransdiscipl inary skill s at ISM is connection

and collaboration, whereby we st rive for all of our

community to be informed, principled and act ive,

demonst rat ing the abil it y t o work cooperati vely t owards

shared decision making that ref lects t heir responsibil it y

t owards ot hers, other species and their envir onment

leading to posit ive and sust ainable act ion. Part of t his

responsibil it y t o othersis empowering our students to

acknowledge and see the world f rom mult iple of

perspectives, leading to greater understanding. Our

classrooms by the nature of t heir diversity offer ourstudents opportunities for in-depth exploration of empathy

and understanding. Our aim is to lead our students to a

place where t hey are very comfort able with whom they

are, including their own cultural context, and are equally

comfortable with their best friends context and how they

may view particular issues and practices.

On Thursday, 29 March, we will be celebrating

Internat ional Day in t he Elementary School at ISM. On the

surface, t his is a day for our students to wear clothes

which they feel culturall y connected to, be it their bir th-

place, mother t ongue, or a signifi cant place in their l ives.

It also offers an opportunity for us to celebrate thelanguages we all speak and some of the culturally

signifi cant events that are close to us. Whilst this is only

one day in the year, our goal is for every day to be

international day at ISM, such that regardless of the

language you speak, color of your skin, or your birthplace,

you have a real sense that you are valued for who you are

and where you come from. Our diversit y is a cause for

celebration and also an entry point for understanding.

    From the Security Officerom the Security OfficeA few rem inders f r om t he Opera t i ons and Secur i t y O f f i ce :

    I D Cards :

ID cards should be worn by adults at all times while on campus. If you have not been issued an ID

card, or you have lost it, you should obtain one by visiting the security office and completing the ap-

    propriate application form.

Dr i vers , he lpers and body guards :

Drivers, helpers and bodyguards should not be waiting on campus for students throughout the school

day. After dropping off students they should exit the school grounds and not return more than 30

minutes before dismissal time. Those who repeatedly fail to comply with this regulation will have their

    access privileges suspended.

Only those vehicles carrying parents or other people with business within the school will be allowed to

return to the campus before 1:45 pm.

    F i rearms:

All members of the ISM community are reminded that it is strictly forbidden for firearms to be

brought onto campus. This includes concealed weapons carried by bodyguards for close protection.

Any person arriving at school with a firearm should inform the gate guard and arrangements will be

made for the weapon to be safely and securely stored during the visitors stay.

Park ing ou ts ide the cam pus:

Parking is not allowed on any of the roads surrounding the school. The ISM guard force is actively

supporting the work of the Bonifacio authorities in keeping these roads clear. This is an important

security measure and parents are asked to emphasize this to their drivers.

    Te r m i na t i on o f em p l oym en t :

In the event of the termination of service of a family employee parents are asked to secure the for-

mer employees ISM ID card and return it to the security office. If this is not possible, it is important

that the security office is still informed of the change of circumstances.

    Secur i t y s ta f f d i r ec t i ons :

Our security team is endeavoring to make the school as safe and secure an environment as possible

for all members of our school community. We ask that everybody cooperates with us in this im-

portant task by following the directions given by members of our guard force. In the event that any-

one is unclear as to the purpose of our regulations they can seek clarification from the security office.Further to this, we encourage parents to advise those members of their staff who enter the school of

    these expectations.

Finally, I would like to thank all members of the ISM community for their assistance in helping usmaintain ISM as a safe and secure environment for our children.
