WHY CHOOSE TO BECOME AN ARTISAN?

An artisan is a skilled worker in a trade that involves making things by hand. This can be furniture, buildings, repairing vehicles and other machinery. Being a skilled artisan can be a very satisfying job, especially when the individual is experienced in his field.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

N1- N3: Grade 9 with Mathematics, Physical/Life Science and English

COURSE DURATION

N1-N3: Three trimesters (one trimester per level)

Once a candidate has completed N2 or N3, and has gained the required practical experience in the workplace, he/she may be eligible to write a Trade Test in their field of study, to become a qualified artisan.

PROGRAMMES

ENGINEERING FOUNDATIONAL PHASE

All potential N1 engineering students are advised to do the foundation phase course in order to be well prepared for N1 – N3 Engineering studies. The programme offers a solid foundation in engineering terminology, language, mathematics and science.

CIVIL ENGINEERING N1-N3(choose area of specialisation from the following: masonry/bricklaying, carpentry or plumbing)

A student who opts for this course will ultimately become one of the following tradesmen: a) Carpenter: A skilled tradesman that cuts shapes and building materials during the construction of a building.

b) Mason/Builder: A skilled trade involving the building of stone, brick and concrete, laid and bound together to form buildings.

c) Plumber: A skilled person who installs and repairs piping, fixtures, appliances and fittings in connection with the water supply, drainage systems, etc., both in and out of buildings.

WATER AND WASTE WATER TREATMENT PRACTISE

In this career path, the student learns about the importance of one of the world’s most important resources: water! The course focuses on the importance of water quality and treatment, how to remove impurities, water supplies to the environment, waste water and sanitation.

LOVEDALE MOTOR TRADE TEST CENTRE Lovedale Zwelitsha campus has a specially equipped motor trade test centre where individuals who have successfully completed their apprenticeships in motor mechanics (N3 and higher), qualifies to write their motor trade test.
