place for monitoring and

regulation of member behavior. These artisans

have been trained to provide quality assurance,

construction management, project management

and maintenance . All registered members of the

association have completed tests in ethics and are

also certified as master craftsperson by the National

Vocational Training Institute(NVTI). Further, a peer

review mechanism is in place to ensure members

adhere and meet required standards in all building

ABSTRACT

Artisans Association of Ghana has assembled over

3,000 highly qualified and experienced workforce

of master craftsmen and entry level artisans whoare

ready to be deployed for jobs at short notice. Estate

developers, construction firms, homeowners,

Hospitals, Schools and Corporate bodies now have

a one stop shop of master craftsmen to quickly

assembly a workforce to meet project goals in a

timely and cost effective manner.

JOB PLACEMENT FOR MEMBERS

As indicated earlier AAG has a Skills Bank of

master crafts persons and entry level artisans who

are ready to be deployed for jobs in the building

and construction sectors at short notice. Estate

developers, construction firms, homeowners,

Hospitals, Schools and Corporate bodies in need of

services of crafts persons are welcomed to partner

with AAG. Listed artisans with AAG are available

for deployment within 24 hours.Through AAG’s

website and job matching platforms qualified master

craftsmen can also be linked to vacant positions in the

construction sector based on their profile.

BACKGROUND OF ARTISANS ASSOCIATION

The Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG) is an

association of master craftsmen made up of masons,

carpenters, electricians, welders, plumbers, glass and

metal fabricators, steel benders, Auto mechanics,

plaster of Paris (POP) designers among others. The

association has been in existence since November,

2012. It is registered with the Registrar Generals

Department and affiliated to (NVTI) and (COTVET).

AAG has established a uniform system for engaging

apprentices. It also seeks low-cost access to tools

and equipment; it is exploring tool sharing and rental

options so members can pool their resources.

THE AAG ADVANTAGE

A recent survey conducted by the Global

Communities indicated that most users of artisan

services were concerned about quality of work,

unreliable estimation of materials, theft, delays

in execution of work, poor and unsafe working

conditions, frequent misunderstanding in cost of

labour. These factors causes undue delays to projects

and in most instances leads to poor quality of work.
