Did you know that in last year’s municipal election only 12% of registered voters cast their ballot? I encourage

you to do whatever you need to do to get out and vote on April 8th. In the City of O’Fallon we will be electing City Councilmen and voting on Propositions J & P. The St. Charles County Ambulance District is asking for their first rate increase in their 40 year existence, as well as electing a member to their Board of Directors. Also seeking Board members are all of our local school districts and the O’Fallon Fire Protection District. I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you to do some research and vote for whom and what you think will move O’Fallon in the right direction. As our community continues to grow, it is immensely important that we have residents who are knowledgeable and engaged in the elections that affect our day to day lives.

As a reminder, your Chamber Board of Directors has voted in support of Propositions J & P for the City of O’Fallon. We believe that both of these propositions are important in order to sustain and improve the high quality of life that we have come to expect and the economic vitality of our community.

To learn more and be prepared for the ballot box, visit the St. Charles County Election Authority at www.election.sccmo.org/election.

As always, I hope to see you at one of our upcoming functions and remember to Shop Chamber First!

ollowing a presentation and discussion on Propositions J & P at the March 18 O’Fallon Chamber of

Commerce board meeting, the O’Fallon Chamber Board of Directors voted to endorse Propositions J & P. The O’Fallon Chamber encourages its members and the community to vote “Yes” in the April 8, 2014 election to support Propositions J & P.

If approved by the voters, these two Propositions will allow O’Fallon to issue bonds for the construction of a new Justice Center, improvements to Civic Park, including a new Civic Hall and expanded Alligator’s Creek, and the construction of a brand new passive park off of Highway DD called O’Day Park. O’Day Park also will include a new lodge for banquets, meetings and recreational opportunities.

Learn more at the Prop J & P website at www.ofallon.mo.us/building-our-future-propositions-j-p or contact Tom Drabell at 636-379-5508 or [email protected].

’Fallon, Missouri, recently received the Outstanding Award for Best Planning Practice for the City’s “Grow

in the O: A Strategic Plan for Economic Development.”

The award was presented by the St. Louis Metro Section of the American Planning Association(SLMS-APA). The organization created the award to recognize “…a specific planning tool, practice, program, project or process that emphasizes results and demonstrates how innovative, state-of the-art planning

methods and practices help to create communities of lasting value.” The SLMS-APA is a local organization of professionals involved in planning and community building throughout the eight-county, bi-state region.

In accepting the award on behalf of the City, Economic Development Director Mike Hurlbert said, “O’Fallon’s Strategic Plan sets the course for a collaborative effort towards the City’s economic growth, planning the most effective way to address the City’s needs and moving our community forward.”

O’Fallon’s Strategic Plan focuses on four main goals: business retention, business attraction, marketing and regulations. In pursuit of those goals, the plan lays out 38 recommended strategies or action items, a list of special project locations and a schedule of implementation. To read a copy of O’Fallon’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, visit www.ofallon.mo.us/economic-development. midwest mAChineCONTiNued FrOm COver2014 in the O’Fallon Corporate Center, adjacent to Component Bar Product’s 75,000-square-foot facility. It is part of Pohlman’s desire to “give back to the community” and help young adults 18 to 28 who only have high school diplomas or GEDs to get the basic training needed to start a well-paying industrial job. The lack of skilled industrial workers is becoming more apparent as baby boomers retire without their ranks being replenished by the upcoming workforce. In response to that reality, the MMTTC offers hands-on, project-based learning that includes robotics, metallurgy, quality control, team work, and soft skills. Currently about 30 local businesses have agreed to partner with the MMTTC when it comes to internships, job placement, and continuing education.

“This is an exciting new addition to O’Fallon’s high tech corridor in St. Charles County, and a great example of a successful entrepreneur willing to fill a niche that could make an important difference in the lives of local residents and local companies looking for skilled workers,” said Mike Hurlbert, Economic Development Director for the City of O’Fallon. “Component Bar Products has been a great business partner in O’Fallon, and now they are an even bigger pillar in the community, thanks to the new Midwest Machine Tool Training Center.”

Each month a different business in St. Charles County is selected for the Business Spotlight Award by the Economic Development Roundtable (EDR) based on criteria such as economic impact, entrepreneurial success, job growth, and civic involvement. The EDR is a standing committee of the Economic Development Center (EDC) of

St. Charles County with the local cities, St. Charles County Government, and the St. Charles County Department of Workforce Development.
