Distinguished Lecture at HBS6 October 2015
“For institutions to sustain themselves over a longperiod of time, they have to be built on a bedrockof ethics,” said Shri Sudhakar Mishra, IRS (Retd),former member of Central Board of Direct Taxes, and Central Administrative Tribunal. In hisaddress on on “Ethics and6 October 2015Governance” to students and faculty of HyderabadBusiness School, a constituent of GITAM University, as part ofDistinguished Lecture Series, Shri Mishra traced the history ofthe study of governance and ethics both in the Western andIndian academic context, and integrated them with theconcept of corporate governance.
Shri Mishra dwelt on the various theories of ethics ofEmmanuel Kant, Max Weber, J.S. Mill, and Mahatma Gandhi. For Gandhiji, Shri Mishra observed, there was little differencebetween personal, private and social ethics. For him,“Dharma” – duty, not religion – was everything, throughwhich we know “our duty in human life and our relation withother selves”.
Speaking of ethics and corporate governance, Shri Mishraobserved that ethical governance includes dimensions suchas fair competition, reach to community, corporate socialresponsibility, customer satisfaction, and more informativeand accountable orientation. According to him, the threeimportant facets of Work Ethics are sincere effort, efficiencyand knowledge. To ensure good governance, a Corporate hasto pay attention to factors such as its vision, mission, humanresource management, ethical strategic management, responsiveness and accountability, corporate socialresponsibility, health, safety and environment policy, fairpractices policy, and ecological and environmental concerns. In conclusion, Sri Mishra called upon the students ofmanagement studies to give back to the society in equal, if notgreater, measure, while claiming his/her right place in society.

on“MANAGEMENT EDUCATION: ENHANCING
EMPLOYABILITY”
Held on 31st October, 2015, at 1000 hrsat Hotel Grand Plaza, Hyderabad
Prof Srinivas Acharya, Chairman of the Telangana Chapter,AIMS, welcomed the gathering followed by addresses by Prof(Dr) L N Bhagat, President, AIMS on AIMS, Prof Mohd MasoodAhmed, Former President, AIMS on the Theme of the RoundTable, and Prof T V Rao, Chairman, TVR Learning Systems, asKey Note Speaker. While Prof M R Rao, Former President,AIMS and Provost, Woxsen School of Business, was theModerator for the Open Session, the Vote of Thanks was givenby Dr S S Prasad Rao, Executive Board Member of AIMS.
Prof (Dr) L N Bhagat, President, AIMS:
He expressed that the management schools should providenot only the requisite curriculum of management education, but also soft skills training for a period of about six months toeach student so that it will enhance their capability to getemployment. The B-Schools should also get involved incommunity social responsibility activities. Educational socialresponsibility should be given high priority which may coverscholarships and free education to the poorer segments of thesociety as well as imparting vocational training at low fee. Asleaders/heads of management institutions, it is theresponsibility of ever one to see that some usefulvocational/professional training is imparted to the students sothat they can stand on their legs after leaving their institution.
Prof Mohd Masood Ahmed, Former President, AIMS:
He felt the deans and directors of B-Schools have a greaterresponsibility towards preparing students for employment.
Prof T V Rao, Chairman, TVR Learning Systems:
In his Key Note Address, Dr Rao, classified managers into fourcategories – Doers, Achievers, Visionaries, and Missionaries.
Each Dean and Director of management schools has theresponsibility to create employability, converting eachconstraint into an opportunity. One has to be a visionary andnot just a doer or achiever and manage one's time effectively sothat employability will improve among management students.
With a little bit of missionary zeal, most of the heads ofbusiness schools can spend their time usefully for enrichmentof knowledge of students, so that they will have employableeducation in your institutions.
Prof M R Rao, Former President, AIMS and Provost, WoxsenSchool of Business: He mentioned that MBAcurriculum variesfrom institution to institution in terms of subjects and eachMBA Graduate may be specializing in a particular discipline ora few disciplines. Enhancing employability depends upon aclear definition of what management students are expected todo and their level of employability.
Many more observations have been made by various
participants of the open session.
