Pakistan Engineering Council Accreditation teams visited The University of Faisalabad from August 3-6, 2015 for reaccreditation of Admission Batch Fall-2011 of Bachelor of Electronics and Computer System, Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Textile. The reaccreditation of admission batch Fall-2010 of Bachelor of Textile Engineering was also a part of their agenda. The teams met the Rector of the University and the

respective Heads of Schools gave presentations about the teaching, research and other functions of their Schools. The teams met the faculty members as well as the students of each school and listened to their views concerning education and other facilities. The teams visited all labs in each school and met the lab engineers and other staff and questioned them about the conduct of practicals, maintenance of apparatus and other aspects.The University hopes that the notification of these accreditations will be issued soon.

Maj Gen (Retd) Khadim Hussain HI (M), Rector Foundation University Islamabad visited The University of Faisalabad on September 17, 2015. Rector TUF Dr Abdul Majeed gave an overview about different ventures undertaken by the Madinah foundation like The University Medical & Dental College, The University of Faisalabad, Madinah Teaching Hospital and other welfare initiatives. Principal UMDC Professor Dr AG Rehan along with MS UMDC Brigadier (R) Tauseef Qadir Qureshi briefed about the infrastructure of the hospital and health services being offered. He visited different laboratories, library of the University and affiliated Madinah Teaching Hospital and expressed satisfaction over the quality of services being provided. A motivational seminar was organized on the topic of “The Magic of Positive Thinking”. President Rehabilitation Society TUF Afaq Ahmad student of DPT inaugurated the seminar with welcome to the guest speaker.Dr Shahid Ahmad Heera dilated upon the impact of positive attitude in one’s life. Student Welfare Foundation, TUF arranged a seminar on 27th August 2015 on “Poverty Reduction”. The discussion encompassed the prevailing economic conditions of Pakistan. In addition, it aimed to promote various measures that will permanently lift people out of poverty.Dr Khalil Ahmad, Chairman SWF in his address unfolded the types of poverty. He stressed on the point that the

students of today can successfully become entrepreneurs of tomorrow and thus can prove to be a source of earning for many deprived.Chief Guest, Rector, Dr Abdul Majeed shared that Pakistan is a blessed country and possesses a lot of resources. The 2nd batch of Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CTL) has been started in The University of Faisalabad by the Department of Medical Education, UMDC under the supervision of Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Deputy Director Medical Education on September 7, 2015. The aim of this course is to “develop our faculty members into effective teachers by helping them improve their teaching skills and professional attitudes”. The session is being facilitated

by the renowned medical educationists in the country.The Certificate will be carried out in three modules and 27 PMDC approved CME credits will be awarded to the participants by The University of Faisalabad. This certified course will help in training and capacity building of the participants. The participants of second batch are HOD’s, departmental chairs and demonstrators from basic, clinical and physiotherapy departments.

A national consensus guidelines meeting was organized with the title of “Challenges of Undergraduate Medical Education 2015 & Beyond - A Road Map” from 11th to 13th Sep, 2015 in Rawalpindi and Bhurban. The moot was organized jointly by PM&DC, HEC, UHS and Rawalpindi Medical College. It was attended by Principals of medical colleges, Deans of medical universities, Director DMEs, medical educationists from across the country and representatives of PM&DC and HEC. Inaugural session was chaired jointly by Chairman HEC and President PM& DC. They emphasized the need for curriculum change and made a commitment to extend full support for the document that would be brought forward at the end of the meeting. Four working groups of medical educationists worked for two days

in Bhurban and came up with consensus guidelines for the new curriculum. It was decided that detailed document will be sent to PM& DC, not later than 15 days after the meeting.Prof Tanzeela Khalid represented Department of Medical education, University Medical & Dental College in this meeting. She contributed in the group working on research

in undergraduate curriculum. The group came up with a spiral module on research that would run from first year to fourth year MBBS. In addition, this meeting served as a forum for academia and experts in medical education to exchange views and share ideas regarding innovations in teaching and learning.

The Workshop on “Basic Life Support (BLS)” was conducted (for MBBS Final Year students) in Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH) in collaboration with Rescue 1122 Faisalabad from 04-09-2015 to 10-09-2015. Three sessions of this workshop were conducted and students were taught CPR skills to be used on victims of all ages, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief from foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). The students were also introduced to firefighting and shifting skills for patients with spinal injuries. The workshop included the following:• Audio-visual demos• Hands on experience using manikins (Adult & Infant)• Use of Bag Valve Masks for rescue breathing

• Use of Automated External Defibrillators(AED)Every candidate was assessed through multiple choice questions (MCQs) and skill tests.MTH instructors team comprised Associate Professor Dr Tanveer Ahmad, Assistant Professor Dr Badar-ud-Duja, Assistant Professor Dr Nazim Hayat, Assistant Professor Dr Humera Zafar and Assistant Professor Dr Rizwan Rasul Khan. Rescue 1122 Faisalabad was represented by Mr Muzammil Malik & Mr Khurram.On the last day of workshop, certificates were awarded to the facilitators and Rescue 1122 team by Associate Professor Dr Tanzeela Khalid and Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Dimple Mustafa.

The present day competitive corporate culture requires sharp and innovative skills. The players need to be more promising and progressive, to be more productive. School of Management Studies, TUF observed World Entrepreneurship Day on August 21, 2015 at Saleem Campus. Mrs Eram Waqar, an entrepreneur of Salon “Signature by Eram” (formerly Deplix) and Mr Muhammad Sajid, Assistant Vice President and Area Manager of

National Bank of Pakistan were the chief guests. Students of BBA projected and simulated the idea of launching their companies “Scrap Out” and “She’s Cafe”. Students from BBA-III the idea of recycling the waste, by launching their company “Scrap Out”. While students from BBA-V and BBA-VII presented a unique idea of launching “She’s Cafe” specially made for female. These admirable projects were applauded by the visitors.

A Seminar on Importance of Polarized Sunglasses was organized by TUF School of Optometry on August 27, 2015. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Dean Faculty of Medical and Allied Health Sciences was the Chief Guest. Students from OD-V explained the uses and benefits of Polarized and UV Protected sunglasses. Thought provoking skits on importance of sunglasses were also presented. There was an interactive session between audience and faculty of

School of Optometry. Coordinator, Miss Kalsoom Rani elucidated the important role polarized sunglasses can play in protection of eyes from harmful UV rays. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed urged to organize such

Eye Camp functioned from 18th to 20th September, 2015 in Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH).This eye camp is organized every year for diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from eye problems. A team of competent doctors, nurses and managers run this camp. More than 1000 patients were examined out of which 200 were admitted and 180 patients were operated upon. Free lenses and medicines were provided. MTH is the only hospital in Faisalabad providing free keratoplasties. From January to September 2015 more than 100 patients were operated for corneal grafting. All the expenses were borne by the Madinah Foundation.

for International Nurses Day 2015 “Force for change, Care effective and Cost effective”. Duppatta ceremony was conducted to motivate the students who have been promoted to higher classes. Diploma certificate/prizes were also distributed among the high achievers and successful graduates. Faculty and staff members who rendered laudable services to School of Nursing, MTH were also awarded shields and certificates for their valuable performance. Chief Guest and The Chairman BOG appreciated the efforts and hard work of Nursing students, faculty and administration who achieved mark of excellence in nursing education by delivering high standards of teaching/training. The University of Faisalabad organized Mass Marriage for 60 couples under the auspices of Madinah Foundation on September 28, 2015. Prof Dr Abdul Majeed, Rector, The University of Faisalabad was the Chief Guest of mega event. Renowned religious figure Sahibzada Ata ul Mustafa Noori prayed fervently for newly wedded couples.The marriage expenditure of 60 orphan and deserving girls from Faisalabad and surrounding areas was borne

by Madinah Foundation. The couples were given dowry and more than 2100 guests were served lunch. Students of the University participated enthusiastically in the arrangements of the event.Deans, Heads, all faculty members and students were present on the occasion. Social Media has emerged as a new medium through which information is shared among the masses. Its importance has increased manifold soon after the advancement in the internet technologies. As per recent statistics, Pakistan has more than 20 million internet users, which is almost 11% of the total population. This percentage is increasing dramatically on daily basis. The use of internet and social media has engaged people from all age groups and from all walks of life. However, it’s use is multidirectional and the user can avail the benefits as per one’s own discretion and priorities. In

order to have an insight into the potential effects of the misuse, a seminar was arranged by the Student Welfare Foundation on 10th September 2015.An articulate speech by Dr Khalil Ahmad – Head QEC helped the students understand the consequences that may arise out of the misuse. Documentaries shown by Mr Tayyeb Riaz –Assistant Professor Management studies department created awareness among the audience. Hepatitis is a medical condition defined by the inflammation of the liver and characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells in

the tissue of the organ. Hepatitis may occur with limited or no symptoms, but often leads to jaundice. It is reported that about 8.6 Million Pakistanis are affected with Hepatitis. Department of Medicine, University Medical and Dental College,

observed “World Hepatitis Day” on July 28, 2015 at Dental Auditorium, Madinah Teaching Hospital. Principal UMDC, Prof Dr A G Rehan was the Chief Guest while Dr Shahid Rasool from Department of Medicine was the Guest Speaker.

Character Building Society-TUF arranged International Youth’s Day in The University of Faisalabad on 7th August 2015.The theme of this year’s International Youth Day 2015 is “Youth Civic Engagement.”A large number of students and faculty members gathered in the auditorium. A collection of documentaries and poems were presented to educate the participants about the current situation of the young growing minds. The presentations gave the message that the youth of Pakistan

should excel in modern knowledge, and by keeping in mind the basic values of Islam to carve out a prominent position for themselves and their country.

Everyone should focus on their self development in order to stand out in the modern day work environment and society.

Started by Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program in 1989, it is observed all across the globe every year. World physical therapy day was celebrated on September 08-2015. A free physical therapy camp was organized by TUF rehabilitation society. Dr Hafiz Muhammad Asim - PT Dean LCPT/Coordinator DPT at UHS was the chief guest. Dr Abdul Majeed - Rector The University of Faisalabad along with the chief guest inaugurated the free physiotherapy camp. Activities included an awareness walk, cake cutting ceremony, decoration of the clinic with informative literature, Free BMI, BP Checks, BMD, Uric Acid,

Blood glucose level checking. A total of 116 patients suffering from various diseases visited the camp.Chief Guest Dr Hafiz Muhammad Asim appreciated the efforts of TUF Rehabilitation society and the

untiring efforts of HOS - Dr Shahid Ahmad Heera and his team. He wished them best of luck for future endeavors as well.

Department of Medicine, University Medical & Dental College organized a seminar on “World Heart Day” at Madinah Teaching Hospital on September 29, 2015. Prof Dr AG was the chief guest while Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Aslam, Cardiologist from Allied Hospital was the guest speaker. Prof Dr Naeem Aslam and Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Yahya, HoD Medicine, MTH in their lectures highlighted the important facts about the heart disease. They said that at least 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be avoided if main risk factors like, high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, obesity, sedentary life style, excessive stress,

sleeplessness and poor sanitary conditions are heeded to and timely treated. Prof Dr A G Rehan in his concluding remarks said that the World Heart Day was a day to remind the community of our biggest health threat, heart disease, and how it could be prevented. He thanked the guest speaker for his valuable input and appreciated the efforts of Department of Medicine for this informative session.

Independence Day was celebrated in TUF on 14th August 2015. Religious Society, The University of Faisalabad observed Youm-e-Shahadat of Syedina Hazrat Ali Karram-Allah-Wajhahu on July 8, 2015 at Saleem Campus. Khatm-e-Quran was also arranged on this occasion. After recitation of verses from Holy Quran and Naat, students offered Manqbat and threw light on martyrdom of Syedna Hazrat Ali Karram-Allah-Wajhahu and death anniversary of Hazrat Halima Sadia (RA). Event was followed by ‘Aftar’.

Religious Society, TUF organized a program regarding death anniversaries of Syeda Fatima (SA) and Syeda Ruqqayya (SA), great daughters of our beloved Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) on June 21, 2015 in Saleem Auditorium. Students recited verses from the Holy Quran and offered Naat and Manqbat. Dr Naheed Kousar, Assistant Professor, Islamic Sciences and Ms Maria Tahir, Student of Pharm D, in their addresses highlighted the Holy life of Syeda Fatima (SA) as a great religious personality in the history of Islam. They emphasized that the Muslim women must follow the footsteps of Syeda Fatima (SA) and Syeda Ruqqayya (SA) so that they may succeed in this world and hereafter.

Religious Society TUF Organized a Quiz Competition on July 2, 2015 at Saleem Campus. Questions pertained to Syedena Ali Karram-Allah- Wajhahu, Syeda Ayesha Sadiqa (SA), Ghazwa-e-Badar and Nazool-e-Quraan. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Dean Faculty of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences was the chief guest. Faculty members and Students from different Schools of TUF attended the event. Competition ended as a tie between the two teams. This competition was marked with a lot of enthusiasm. The University of Faisalabad in addition to providing facilities for professional education, lays equal emphasis on teachings of Islam. Every year TUF launches Fehm ul Quran course with Seerat-Un Nabi, Hadith, Fiqh, computer skills and spoken English courses for females in Saleem Campus and no fee is charged from the participants. A

two months course was attended by sizeable number of students. Closing ceremony was held on 13th

Dr Matloob Ahmad and HOS Dr Mahfooz Ahmad recalled the history in detail in order to explain the facts associated with the martyrdom of Hazrat Muslim Bin Aqeel (AS) and Syedna Aun-O-Muhammad (AS). The University of Faisalabad arranged an open house in both campuses for the prospective candidates seeking admission in various disciplines. A large number of students and parents visited and met the faculty members. They were briefed about each academic program along with the job opportunities and their career prospects given

the present corporate sector requirements. Students and their parents also visited the state of the art laboratories, furnished class rooms, sports area and residential facilities. Visit to the affiliated Madinah Teaching Hospital was a special attraction.

Department of Community Medicine organized awareness seminars on “Prevention of Dengue Fever”. These seminars were organized in University College for Women, University Cambridge School and The University of Faisalabad. Highly qualified doctors of Community Medicine Department imparted health education regarding prevention of Dengue Fever. The audience were

informed that dengue mosquito breeds on clean water, so collection of such water in nearby living spaces should be avoided. We should cover our body parts especially at ‘Dawn and Dusk’ and apply mosquito repellents. Queries and myths of students associated with this disease were answered. Flyers containing preventive information of dengue fever were distributed among students.

In order to provide an additional fillip to the national campaign against terrorism, Character Building Society – TUF arranged an essay competition on 19 August 2015. Students from all disciplines participated. Efforts made in the anti-terrorism campaign were particularly focused. Mudassir Ahmad - DPH 9th Semester, Ahtisham-ur-Rehman – BEE 5th and Afaq Munawarr – BEE 7th got the first, second and third positions respectively.

Lively nations remember their heroes who rendered their services for the defence of their motherland. Nations, which forget their heroes are forgotten by the history itself. Noor-e-Siddiq-e-Akbar Library organized an exhibition of books, articles, and online resources on “Defence Day” for the students and visitors at Saleem Campus. This exhibition continued from September 2-6, 2015. Students took profound interest in the novels and biographies about the heroes of the 1965 War between India and Pakistan. They also appreciated the display of some news and stories published in the September 1965 editions of

Jang, Dawn and Pakistan Times.

The University of Faisalabad Inks an MOU with GC University Faisalabad

The University of Faisalabad (TUF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with G C University Faisalabad (GCUF) for a long term mutual collaboration between the two Universities. MOU was signed by Prof Dr Abdul Majeed Rector, TUF and Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor GCUF at a ceremony held at The University of Faisalabad on September 8, 2015 which was also attended by Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Dean Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Prof Dr Abdul Haq, Director ORIC, and other senior faculty members from both the Universities.

The objective of this MOU between the two institutions is to encourage direct contact and cooperation between faculty members, departments, institutes and research centers to benefit from the facilities and expertise of each other. Both the Universities will carry out cooperation in joint research activities and publications; exchange of information in fields of interest of both institutions and holding of conferences, short courses and other academic activities.
