Empire

Main image: fills up the majority of the page and is usually a a mid shot of the main character of the featured movie. The image Is powerful as the actor is giving direct address by looking straight into the camera, making the audience feel part of the magazine too. The magazine website is nearly always featured below the master head in a relatively small font. Main cover line: Title of the featured film clearly advertised in bold lettering to show to the target audience the clear content of the magazine. Sky line: advertises what comes free with the poster, the word ‘free’ purposely in a different colour to the rest of the font so that the audiences eye is immediately drawn to it. Master head: The master head of the magazine stays the same for every issue. The boldness and redness of the font is significant as it contrasts with the black background, drawing the audiences eye towards the title of the magazine so that it is easily recognizable and rememberable. The price of the magazine is shown on the front of the magazine but it is not obvious. This is probably due to the expense of the magazine which would not be an ideal selling point and therefore would not be prominent. A bar code is a typical convention of a magazine cover and usually shown on the back or on the front corner of the magazine. Puff: a mini puff is used to promote an exciting offer when you buy the magazine. Slogan: the magazine has used the slogan in the same colour scheme (red and white) as the master head. The ‘Worlds biggest movie magazine’ subliminally draws the audience into buying the magazine as its advertised as the best on the market. Feature/Special: Positioned in the last 3 rd , advertises what is due to come up within the magazine.
